    Vespa, Aprilia Reopen Dealerships Across Karnataka

    Piaggio India has re-opened its Vespa and Aprilia dealerships across Karnataka, in Bengaluru, Mysore, Belgaum, Mangalore, Bijapur, Davangere, Shimoga and Udupi to serve the brands’ customers. The dealerships have been opened in a staggered manner over the last few days, after receiving permission from local authorities. All the touchpoints across the 21 dealerships have been fully and partially operational with due health, safety and care measures. The showrooms and workshops are completely sanitized in accordance to the guidelines introduced by the company for maximum safety of the employees and customers. Additional health and safety guidelines and protocols are also being followed, including usage of Arogya Setu App.

    “We have been working together with our dealers in navigating through the new reality and the opening of dealerships is a key step in that direction. Keeping in mind the anxiety of our customers we had previously announced extension of original equipment warranty and free services which expires during the lockdown period, and our dealerships are prepared to address all vehicle sales and service requirements. We want to ensure that our customers face no hurdles during the purchase of a new vehicle and are able to avail services seamlessly,” said Diego Graffi, Chairman and Managing Director, Piaggio India.

    The dealerships are operating in a safe environment and teams at every dealership are following social distancing protocols including contactless greeting, wearing protective gear and using hand sanitisers while addressing sales and service needs of the customer. Customers can call and pre-book service appointment to avoid crowding at the dealership. Piaggio India has also resumed manufacturing operations at its Baramati plant for the supply of Vespa and Aprilia scooters.

    Official Designs Reveal Aprilia RS 660

    The Supersport class may not be getting much interest from consumers, across all brands, but now Aprilia seems intent to introduce a new 660 cc motorcycle, the Aprilia RS 660, which was showcased as a concept at the EICMA 2018 show in Milan, Italy, last year. Aprilia has revealed production drawings of the RS 660. From the concept showcased at the EICMA show, the design is nearly identical, but a closer look reveals that the production drawings show reveals that almost every body panel has been completely redesigned.

    The powerplant and other elements though remain the same as the concept, including the 660 cc, parallel-twin engine. The bike’s fairing has undergone some changes in design on the production drawings, with reshaped side panels as well as some changes in the cycle parts. The production design reveals the bike will sport Sachs suspension and Brembo Monoblocs, while the concept featured Ohlins suspension and Brembo Systema calipers. A top-spec production variant could also feature the Ohlins and Systema hardware which could be introduced at a later stage once Aprilia introduced the production model of the RS 660. The wheel design is also different on the production drawings.

    The triple clamp on the steering is a straight lift from the Aprilia RSV4, while the clip-on handlebars have a less aggressive riding position – placed higher and are significantly straighter than the ones shown on the concept. The swingarm seems to be completely new, but the single seat design has remained the same on the production model. We expect the production-spec Aprilia RS 660 to be showcased at this year’s EICMA 2019 show in November.

    Aprilia Storm 125 Launch Details Revealed

    Piaggio is all set to officially launch the Aprilia Storm 125 in India on 30th May, 2019. We say officially as the scooter is already available in select Aprilia dealerships across India. It is expected to be priced at ₹ 65,000 (ex-showroom, Pune). The Aprilia Storm 125 was first showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo and is about ₹ 8,000 cheaper than the Aprilia SR 125. Overall, the design stays the same but there are a few changes on the Storm 125 as compared to the SR 125. The first is the color scheme of course and the Aprilia badging is a white instead of the usual red. The bright yellow paint job is complemented with bold graphics, which is quite similar to what we saw at the expo.

    Also, the scooter will have two variants, one with an optional disc brake up front while the other will be a drum brake one. Both scooters will have a combined braking system as standard. The tires are now knobby instead of the road-biased tires that we see on the regular SR 125. Also, the wheels could be 10-inch instead of the 12-inch units that the SR 125 is fitted with. As far as engine and cycle parts are concerned, the Aprilia Storm 125 gets the same hardware as the SR 125. The scooter gets a 125 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled motor that makes 9.25 bhp and 9.8 Nm while being paired to a CVT unit. The suspension bits stay the same as well.

    The Aprilia Storm 125 will go up against the TVS NTorq 125, Honda Grazia and the Suzuki Burgman Street. We expect the deliveries of the scooter to begin in the next few weeks.

    Piaggio Updates Vespa & Aprilia Scooter Range With ABS & CBS

    Piaggio India has updated its range of Vespa and Aprilia scooters with ABS and CBS technology. The safety features are now mandatory on all two-wheelers, both new and old. As part of an introductory offer, Piaggio is providing a lucrative offer on the ABS range of Vespa and Aprilia two-wheelers from April onwards, under which customers can enjoy benefits worth ₹ 6,000 on purchasing via PayTM. The Aprilia SR 150, Vespa SXL and VXL 150 now get single-channel ABS, while the Aprilia SR 125, and Vespa 125 range get CBS on offer. Prices for the updated models will be officially announced soon.

    Commenting on the introduction of new upgraded Vespa and Aprilia, Diego Graffi, Managing Director and CEO, Piaggio India said, “As a global brand, we are committed to the safety of our customers and delighted to comply with the changing safety norms from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. This move will improve the overall safety and riding standards of the two-wheeler industry. For us, our product portfolio was already ABS compliant last year, but we are launching them across the country now to fit the general demand.”

    Anti-Lock Brakes or ABS are mandated on two-wheelers above 125 cc and helps the vehicle to stop without slippage or wheel being locked in case of an emergency, thereby offering better control to the rider. Similarly, two-wheelers below the 125 cc displacement have Combined Braking System or CBS as standard fitment that provides proportional brake distribution between the front and rear wheels for added stability.

    Italian bike maker Aprilia makes some high-revving performance bikes that enthusiasts swoon over, and now it has added a new name to that list of performance offerings. The company has unveiled the new Aprilia RSV4 X, which is a track-only motorcycle and has been developed by Aprilia Racing with components derived from its WSBK and MotoGP race bikes. The RSV4 X is limited to a production run of just 10 units, which makes a rare motorcycle to get your hands on. The X marks the completion of 10 years of the RSV4 and comes with state-of-the-art equipment.
