    1Password boosts account security with new recovery codes feature

    1Password, the popular password management app, has announced a new feature called recovery codes designed to make it easier for users to recover their accounts. This new feature is part of the company’s ongoing commitment to improve the user experience.

    The new recovery codes will allow users to regain access to their 1Password account even if they forget their master password or lose their Secret Key. Before recovery codes, if users forgot their master password or lost their Secret Key, they would be locked out of their account and unable to access their data. This caused frustration and stress for both users and 1Password support.

    With recovery codes, users can create a unique code that can be used to regain access to their account. The code can be generated from within the 1Password app for Mac, Windows, Linux, iOS, Android, or 1Password.com, and should be stored in a safe and secure location.

    Recovery codes are reusable and will remain valid after they’re used. If a user recovers their account with a recovery code, they will be asked to create a new master password and will receive a new Secret Key. The new Secret Key will be used to log in to the 1Password account on all devices.

    1Password has stressed that the introduction of recovery codes does not change the security of 1Password accounts. The company claims that the recovery process is safe and requires two separate steps to complete: email verification and the recovery code. That said, Secret Keys are not going away, and recovery codes are intended to be used only if the user forgets their master password and/or loses their Secret Key.

    Family Organizers of 1Password Families accounts will still be able to recover accounts for other family members. However, recovery codes will give family members an additional option to regain access to their accounts themselves.

    According to 1Password, millions of people trust the company with their sensitive information. As such, the introduction of recovery codes is a welcome addition to provide peace of mind to its users.

    Google reveals seven new features for Google Chat

    Google Chat was originally designed for businesses to keep their teams communicating internally. However, it can now be used by consumers for direct messages and group conversations. It also includes Spaces, which is a feature where tasks can be assigned and files shared. Chat can be installed on both Android and iOS. Found in the Google Play Store, the app can be downloaded by Android users by tapping on this link. Those using an iPhone can find the app in the App Store by clicking on this link.
    On Friday Google revealed seven new features coming to Google Chat including Smart Compose. This feature offers those typing a message contextually aware suggestions that are grayed out in the text bar. If you see a suggestion that you want to use, hit the tab button to add the suggested words to your message. Check out the video below to show you how Smart Compose works in Chat. Smart Compose is rolling out to Chat web users in English, French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese.
    If you’ve ever sent a message and immediately realized that you left out a word, or typed something by mistake, Google Chat can use message editing to delete or edit a message by long-pressing on it. A toolbar will appear and you press on the Edit icon (which looks like a pencil), make your edit (or delete the entire message) and tap on Update. This feature is available to all Chat users.
    Another new feature in Chat will allow you to quote a previous message when sending a response. This allows the group to see exactly which message you are responding to without getting confused. Just tap on the message you want to quote and when the toolbox appears, tap on the icon that shows the “Enter” icon, and the message you want to reply to will be on the bottom of the screen. Type your response and send it.
    Sometimes, whether it is due to a poor internet connection or for some other reason, you might not know whether some or all of the group received your message. Already available for direct messages on mobile and web, you will get a read receipt on messages you send when the avatar of those who received your message appears underneath your post on the right side. Tapping on the avatars (or rolling over them with a mouse) will show the names of those who received your message. This will be coming to Chat later this month to group messages on mobile and web.
    Want to save yourself from adding a long URL to a message? Sure you do. If you want to link something to a group, you can select the text that you want to hyperlink, click on the insert link icon on the toolbar, and paste in or type the URL you want linked to the text. This will be available in the weeks ahead for Android users and those on the web.
    No one likes a messy and cluttered interface. So if you have more than 10 conversations or spaces, any that have been inactive for the last seven days will be hidden until a new message is posted. At that time, it will go straight to the top of the list. And if you need to view one of the hidden conversations or spaces before a new message is sent, tap the “More” button under the list of Chats. This feature is available to Chat users now.
    Lastly, in the coming weeks, Chat users will be able to install apps for their personal Chats and spaces. Google mentions Giphy to add GIFs, Asana to assign tasks and add to-do lists to group chats, and Zapier for custom notifications.

    SJC gold price dropped 0.15% to VND67.3 million ($2,865.05) per tael Monday morning. Gold ring price went up 0.46% to VND54.8 million per tael. A tael equals 37.5 grams or 1.2 ounces.

    Reuters reported that global gold prices hit a more than four-week low on Monday, as the U.S. dollar firmed after stronger-than-expected jobs data fanned concerns that the Federal Reserve might keep hiking interest rates.

    Spot gold was little changed at $1,865.88 per ounce, as of 0045 GMT, after hitting its lowest level since January 6 earlier in the session.

    The dollar index was 0.2% higher, making gold less attractive for buyers holding other currencies.

    Data on Friday showed U.S. job growth accelerated sharply last month, with nonfarm payrolls surging by 517,000 jobs – well above an estimated 185,000. The unemployment rate hit more than a 53-1/2-year low of 3.4%.

    Vietnam Airlines accumulated loss nears charter capital

    The accumulated loss of national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines climbed to VND21.98 trillion ($928.39 million) last year, roughly the same as its charter capital.

    The airline was hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic that saw borders closed and commercial flights suspended for two years.

    It posted a loss of VND13.02 trillion last year alone, with revenue dropping 31 percent year on year to VND28.09 trillion.

    The airline increased its charter capital by 56 percent to VND22.14 trillion last year by issuing 800 million shares, with the State Capital Investment Corporation (SCIC) contributing an additional VND6.89 trillion.

    The Commission for Management of State Capital at Enterprises (CMSC) now holds a 55.2 percent stake in the flag carrier, the SCIC 31.14 percent, and Japan’s ANA airline 5.62 percent.

    The airline has been increasing the number of flights it operates since the beginning of this year as the government began lifting restrictions based on rising vaccination rates.

    It operated 7,314 flights last month, up nearly 21 percent year-on-year.

    The airline has proposed that the government raises the price cap for domestic travel from April 1 and add a fuel surcharge for local routes as fuel prices have soared in recent months.

    Prada reports China sales growing at a fast pace

    Sales of luxury Prada items in China have exceeded last year’s levels since the brand’s physical stores reopened following the coronavirus pandemic.

    The Chinese appetite for luxury items has rebounded strongly despite the impact of Covid-19, even as global sales are hit with a decline of 35 percent.

    “To date, the Prada Group’s sales in China have already largely exceeded the levels of 2019, showing double-digit growth since the beginning of the year,” said Prada CEO Patrizio Bertelli.

    Prada’s growth within China has exceeded more than 60 percent since March, with a sales record hit on August 25, this year’s Chinese Valentine’s Day.

    The firm’s projections suggest the trend will continue in the coming months, according to Bertelli.

    Fixed Fees Coming for Indonesia’s E-Wallet Transactions

    Indonesia’s central bank is planning to impose fixed fees on some e-wallet transactions in a move that not only eliminates pricing flexibility but could also deter small merchants from participating.

    Bank Indonesia is already in talks with the country’s largest digital payment startups to standardize fees on QR code transactions, according to a report citing five unnamed sources.

    Indonesia’s internet economy has a bright outlook with a Google, Temasek and Bain & Co report projecting the $40 billion market this year to grow more than three-fold by 2025. The market houses numerous global household e-wallet players including homegrown ride-hailing giant Gojek.

    The central bank wants to fix some e-wallet transaction fees at 0.7 percent – a move that could push out smaller merchants on the network that are currently being charged at very levels as an incentive. The would also hit revenue lines from large merchants, like Starbucks, which are already being charged up to 2 percent.

    In addition to pushing out smaller merchants and cut revenue from larger merchants, the central bank’s plan would also require e-wallet transaction fees to be split to an additional party: major Indonesian lenders.

    Under the new system, e-wallet transaction fees would be split between three parties: e-wallet companies, payment processors and the newly included National Electronic Transaction Settlement consortium made up of major local lenders which were previously not involved.

    This will hurt all of us, said one unnamed executive at an Indonesian e-wallet company.
