    Delivery Hero Acquired Korean rival Woowa

    Berlin-headquartered online food-delivery operator Delivery Hero has acquired Seoul-based rival Woowa for US$4 billion.

    The acquisition will see Delivery Hero owning 88 percent of Woowa, with the remaining shares to be acquired over time.

    Woowa operates food delivery platform Baedal Minjok in South Korea, which it says generated approximately 100 million orders during the third quarter. It also includes the Baemin service in Vietnam, operated by Baedal Minjok.

    “Woowa is at the forefront of innovative technology services and has put Korea on the map in the global online food delivery industry,” said Delivery Hero CEO Niklas Ostberg.

    “We fully support Woowa to continue making investments and innovate for the benefit of the wider industry participants, including consumers, restaurants, employees, and riders,” he added.

    Along with the acquisition, the two companies agreed to set up a joint venture in Singapore to explore investment opportunities in the Asia-Pacific region and to further expand Delivery Hero and Woowa’s Asian footprint.

    The deal marks a complete circle of delivery services in Vietnam. Foodpanda exited the market in December 2015 and its then-parent sold the database to rival Vietnam. Delivery Hero bought out Foodpanda a year later and earlier this year, Baedal Minjok bought Vietnammm before rebranding it Baemin.

    Frankfurt-listed Delivery Hero was founded in 2011 with operations in more than 40 countries internationally, offering delivery services in more than 300 cities.

    Last year, Woowa grew revenues in South Korea by 96 percent over 2017 to €242 million, turning a pretax profit of €46 million. In the first nine months of this year, Woowa grew revenues in South Korea by 84 percent to €301 million, with GMV pretax profit of around €3 million. Its Vietnam subsidiary fulfilled about 1.5 million orders during the third quarter of this year.

    “It’s a test for us as a global retailer to elaborate around how we can be more personal and locally relevant,” said H&M Group laboratory business developer Anna Bergare.

    H&M Mitte Garten will regularly offer events such as lectures, fashion talks, and yoga for its customers. Upcoming trends and looks will be presented in the public showroom. Here consumers can try on and borrow pieces to make sure their future purchases are consciously made.

    “This is a unique location and it has served as a meeting place for Berliners for more than 100 years,” said H&M Germany country manager Thorsten Mindermann. “[It’s] a tradition we want to honor. We aim to offer a neighborhood store serving as a platform for local and global talents within retail, culture, and art.”

    The opening comes as the brand gets ready to debut clothing rentals in its Stockholm flagship store. The brand is offering the chance to rent selected party dresses and skirts from its 2012–2019 Conscious Exclusive collections to members of its customer loyalty program.

    “We have looked at clothing rental for quite some time and are so happy to for the first time soon offer fashion fans the possibility to rent some stunning pieces from our Conscious Exclusive collections,” H&M said head of sustainability Pascal Brun. “We look forward to evaluating this as we are dedicated to change the way fashion is made and consumed today.”

    Members will be able to rent up to three pieces a time for a week at a cost of around SEK350 (US$36) per piece.

    The routes that are passed by the trams with Wonderful Indonesia promotion go through Zone AB/ABC or Berlin’s community activity center and have become Berlin’s city attraction. Tram No. M6 and M4 pass Alexanderplatz, which is the heart of Berlin, and Hackeser Markt.

    There are images of tourist attractions in Bangka Belitung, images traditional dancers from Nias Island and Barong from Banyuwangi, as well as images of traditional custom of Balinese, etc.

    Agustini Rahayu said the tram with “Wonderful Indonesia” promotion have a registration number of 1033, 1068, 1092, 1070, 1503, 1575, 1520, 4007, 4008, 4010, 8014, 8015, 8016, 8017, 8018 and also in two subways; number 1011-1 and 1011-4.

    The promotion of Wonderful Indonesia was decided to be applied on trams and subways since the 352 trams in Berlin have 181.1 million passengers per year.

    This means there are about 513,031 passengers per tram and the campaign from March – April is expected to cover 1,282,578 passengers.

    The booth accommodated 101 tourism-related sellers, a coffee corner offering free coffee testers to the fairs visitors, a silhouette artist, and several dancers and two models wearing “unbelievable costumes” from Malang Carnival.

    Visitors to the Indonesian pavilion measuring 693 m2, were entertained and served by German-speaking officers.

    “We are proud that Indonesias pavilion has won the best exhibition award for the Asian, Australian, and Oceania region,” Nia Niscaya of the Indonesian tourism ministry, said.

    Earlier, Wonderful Indonesia tourism branding also won awards respectively in Los Angeles, and Victoria, Hong Kong.

    Hernowo Muliawan of the PCO Karma Wibangga design team, also expressed his happiness that the booth that he and his team team had designed came out as a winner in the ITB Berlin.

    The booths design featuring Phinisi introduced Indonesia as major maritime tourist destination having over 17 islands, interesting coastal culture and arts, and amazing maritime natural resources.

    Last year, Indonesias pavilion also won a similar award at the 2015 ITB Berlin.

    This year, over 10 thousand exhibitors from 187 countries

    showcased the latest products and trends related to the global tourism industry at 1,069 stands.

    In 2013, Indonesia was the ITBs official partner country, and had the privilege of being the host of the opening ceremony.
