    Uber competitor Bolt starts recruiting Vietnamese drivers

    Bolt, Europe’s first homegrown ride-hailing company and Uber’s main competitor in the continent, is now recruiting management staff and drivers in HCMC.

    The company’s website, which now offers Vietnamese as a language option, allows candidates to register as drivers for a weekly income running into millions of dong (VND1 million = US$39.40).

    Founded in 2013 in Estonia, Bolt now operates in over 50 countries with services ranging from ride-hailing and car rentals to food and grocery delivery.

    It claims to have 4.6 million drivers and delivery partners serving over 200 million users globally.

    Vietnam’s ride-hailing market is projected to reach $880 million in 2024 and grow at a compounded annual rate of 19.5%, hitting $2.16 billion by 2029, according to Indian market research firm Mordor Intelligence.

    Its major competitors now include Grab, Xanh SM and Be.

    Last year Indonesia’s Gojek exited Vietnam after six years in the country, while Uber had pulled out in 2018.

    Tesla Recalls 3,470 Model Y Vehicles Over Loose Bolts

    Tesla said it recalls 3,470 2022 through 2023 Model Y vehicles in the United States because bolts securing the second-row seatback frames may not have been securely tightened, according to a public filing.

    The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said a loose seat frame bolt may reduce seat belt system performance, increasing injury risks during a crash.

    Tesla told NHTSA it has identified five warranty claims since December that may be related to these conditions. Tesla said it was not aware of any injuries or deaths that may be related to the recall issue.

    Tesla will inspect bolts securing second-row driver-side and passenger-side seat back frames to the lower seat frames and if needed tighten them to specifications.

    In December, the automaker said that a Tesla supplier implemented improved process controls along with improved training and supervision to ensure bolts are torqued to specifications.

    Internux Sues Shop for Unlocking Bolt! Modems

    Internux, the company behind Bolt! 4G mobile broadband service, is suing Cumi Laut Software Development, a local shop, for allegedly providing unlocking services for the company’s modem devices.

    Bolt!, which is the first 4G mobile broadband provider in Indonesia, has been offering its broadband service with modem and smartphones since its introduction last year — attracting more than 1 million customers.

    The company, however, found out that several parties including Cumi Laut, has been unlocking the modem to make it compatible with other operators’ broadband services.

    “[This] is an illegal practice that breaches patents and costs our clients,” said Ignatius Supriyadi, Internux’s lawyer in a statement on Wednesday.

    Dicky Moechtar, Bolt!’s chief executive, said that the company would also take legal actions against other parties besides Cumi Laut.
