Breguet Breaks New Ground with First Luxury Watch Boutique in Thailand

Swiss high-end watch manufacturer, Montres Breguet, has made its debut in Thailand with the launch of a boutique at IconSiam in Bangkok.

    Store Design

The newly minted boutique showcases a unique design aesthetic, incorporating luxurious elements such as American walnut wood and marble finishes. The core architectural concept revolves around smooth, flowing lines. This is evident in the guilloché-inspired patterns on the carpets and the furniture edges, which reflect the shape of the watch cases. Additionally, the boutique is adorned with the brand’s distinctive ‘Breguet Blue’ hue.

    Customer Experience

Montres Breguet has placed a particular emphasis on customer service within the boutique. The space includes private service areas, as well as a dedicated consultation zone. These areas are designed to create a unique, personalized customer journey through the store.

    Breguet’s Collections

The Bangkok boutique features a selection of timepieces from Breguet’s renowned collections. Displayed prominently is the Breguet Experimentale No 1, marking the first offering in the brand’s new Experimentale collection. This watch, a product of Breguet’s research and development team, is characterized by a high-frequency tourbillon that operates at 10 hertz, ensuring impeccable timekeeping precision.

In addition to this new collection, the boutique also offers timepieces from Breguet’s staple ranges. These include the Classique, Marine, Tradition, and Type XX collections. Notably, the Type XX watch is a mechanical chronograph originally designed by Abraham-Louis Breguet himself for the French Air Force.

Breguet relocates Singapore store, eyes Asia sales

Swiss watchmaker Breguet has relocated its standalone store in Singapore, in a bid to improve retail operations in Asia, as watch sales look to increase in the region.

Located in Marina Bay Sands, the new boutique was reopened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by brand management and clients. The luxury watchmaker relocated from its 115 square-metre store to a 134 square-metre space in the premier luxury shopping destination The Shoppes.

The Swatch Group Singapore & Malaysia management, the operators of Breguet in the region, welcomed sixty VIP guests for an evening doused in the theme “East-meets-West”, said the brand.

It’s been a tough twelve months of trade for Swatch. In February, Swatch Group said profits were nearly halved in 2016 as global watch market weakness took its toll. However, an uptick in sales in Asia toward the end of last year, namely in China, saw the watchmaker predict a healthier year ahead.

Watch and jewellery sales dropped by just under 11 per cent as a marked slowdown in 2015 ran into early 2016, it said.

The end of last year, however, saw fresh movement in sales, especially in China, Swatch said.

“The months of November, December and January showed, particularly in mainland China, very good growth in the watches and jewellery segment, with a substantial improvement in operating margin,” the group said in a statement.

“Based on the positive development of the last three months, healthy growth is expected for the year 2017,” it said.

Founded in 1775, Montres Breguet is synonymous with prestigious Swiss watchmaking. Swatch Group acquired Breguet in 1999 from Investcorp, placing it alongside Swatch stable mates Omega, Longines, Hamilton and Calvin Klein watches.

While Swatch Group profits nearly halved last year in a weak global watch market, the Swiss company is predicting “healthy growth” ahead.

Swatch Group owns such luxury brands as Breguet, Longines and Omega as well as marketing watches carrying its own name.

Net profit fell 47 per cent to 593 million Swiss francs (US$598 million) last year while sales came in at 7.5 billion francs.

From November to January there was “very good growth” in the segment, particularly in Mainland China, says the group, noting “a substantial improvement in operating margin.”

Swatch Group profit lowest for seven years

Swatch Group, the maker of Omega and Tissot timepieces, has reported its lowest first-half profit in seven years, with demand tumbling in Hong Kong, France and Switzerland.

Its first-half operating profit fell 54 per cent to 353 million francs (US$359 million), the company says. This followed an earlier warning that earnings would probably fall 50 to 60 per cent.

After previously forecasting growth, CEO Nick Hayek says sales for the year may fall as much as 6 per cent. Terrorist attacks in France are keeping tourists at bay, denting sales.

However, Swatch says its full-year results will be close or equivalent to those of last year.
Swiss watch exports declined a record 11 per cent in the first half, says the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry.

Swatch says the first three weeks of this month showed good growth in China, particularly for its luxury brands Blancpain, Breguet and Omega.

The company also says the drop in Hong Kong’s retail sales has bottomed out.
