Cadillac Lyriq Sold Out In 90 Mins

The Cadillac Lyriq has been the long-talked-about electric SUV that the luxury brand by GM has been working on and already it has been sold out in 90 minutes. The car which is also due to come in 2022 and now Cadillac has announced the “Debut Edition” has been reserved. So far Cadillac has only opened reservations for the “Debut Edition”.

The luxury EV play costs upwards of $60,000 and the car will have a 100 kWh battery that has 335 bhp in power and coughs up 482.8 kilometers of range. It even supports 19.2kW AC charging and can even do 190 kW DC fast charging. It is also one of the first cars to feature GM’s ADAS stack called Super Cruise powered by Cruise, the self-driving car company capitalized by GM.

“2023 Cadillac LYRIQ Debut Edition reservations are full, but more vehicles will be available to order through your Cadillac dealer starting the Summer of 2022. Contact your dealer for more details,” announced Cadillac.

Deliveries for the Lyriq are supposed to start in Q2 of 2022 but that could change considering the global semiconductor shortage. It joins the likes of the Ford F-150 Lightning and Tesla Cybertruck as major EVs that will be delivered to consumers in 2022. Rivian has already started deliveries of the R1T and will soon launch new trims of the car in 2022.

General Motors Unveils Futuristic Flying Cadillac Concept Vehicle

General Motor on Tuesday presented a futuristic flying Cadillac – a self-driving vehicle that takes off and lands vertically and carries the passenger above the streets and through the air. A senior GM executive described the concept as “reimagining the future of personal transportation”. The single-passenger Cadillac – technically, a vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) drone – will be able to travel from urban rooftop to urban rooftop at speeds up to 55 miles per hour.

It is fully autonomous and all-electric, with a 90kW motor, a GM Ultium battery pack and an ultra-lightweight body with four pairs of rotors.

The flying Cadillac was presented in a video as part of a virtual keynote presentation by Chief Executive Mary Barra, along with a family-friendly Cadillac electric shuttle.

Barra last year revealed the automaker was exploring such alternative transportation modes as aerial taxis.

The concepts in the CES video were introduced by GM design chief Mike Simcoe, who described the VTOL as “the Cadillac of urban air mobility”.

“VTOL is key to GM’s vision for a multimodal future,” he said.

The autonomous Cadillac shuttle, described in the video as “arriving soon,” features a boxy silhouette that recalls the Cruise Origin, also designed by Simcoe’s team. It features fore and aft sliding doors and a panoramic glass roof.

The cabin has wraparound lounge-like seating, plus biometric sensors, voice control and hand gesture recognition.

GM declined to disclose further details.

Other automakers, including Toyota Motor, Hyundai Motor and Geely Automobile, have previously have shown concept aerial vehicles as part of their future planning.

  • GM’s Cadillac expects China sales to jump 60 percent in 2017

GM’s Cadillac expects China sales to jump 60 percent in 2017

General Motors’ Cadillac luxury brand expects its China sales to surge 60 percent in 2017, faster than it had projected at the start of the year, on strong demand from younger buyers, the brand’s country chief said.

The GM premium brand, which saw a sharp spike in sales after it opened its first dedicated factory in the country last year, had said in January that China sales would continue growing at a double-digit rate but at a slower pace than the roughly 50-percent growth it posted in 2016.

Cadillac, relatively late to introduce local production in the world’s biggest auto market, is among a second wave of luxury car brands in China that seek to take market share from established brands such as BMW (BMWG.DE), Daimler’s (DAIGn.DE) Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen’s (VOWG_p.DE) Audi.

In order to sustain the momentum in Cadillac sales in China, the brand plans to double the number of retail stores over the next five years to more than 300, from the current 180.

“A lot of younger people in China are looking for something different to stand out of the crowd. We have a very young target audience. That is a significant difference to the other countries in the world,” Cadillac’s China chief, Andreas Schaaf, told Reuters in an interview on Friday.

The average age of Cadillac buyers in China is 33 years, compared to 50 years in Europe and the United States combined, Schaaf said.

GM China sets year to date retail sales record

General Motors and its joint ventures booked record retail sales of 2,197,192 vehicles in China during the first eight months of the year, which was up 2.3% year on year. The increase, the automaker said, was driven by successful new product launches and an improved mix of SUVs and MPVs.

In August, domestic sales by GM and its joint ventures declined 4.8% to 248,815 vehicles, owing to softness in the overall vehicle market.

GM China president Matt Tsien said: “Recently launched models such as the Buick Excelle GT and Cadillac ATS-L have been well received by consumers and produced solid sales growth.”

Increased demand for several SUV and MPV models helped offset the market slowdown in August. The Buick Envision and Baojun 560 led the sales growth during the month, rising 161.7%, while sales of the Baojun 730 MPV more than doubled.

Buick enjoyed its best sales ever in China in the first eight months of the year. Sales rose 5.4% year on year to 581,544 units, led by the Excelle GT and Envision. In August alone, Excelle GT volume jumped 77.6%.

Cadillac also set a record in the first eight months of the year with sales rising 12% year on year to 49,186 units. Sales of the ATS and ATS-L reached a new high for the period.

Chevrolet sales declined 7.4% to 391,677 units year over year between January and August. However, sales of the Trax urban SUV surged 146.2% to a record for the eight-month period.

Baojun sales jumped 282.5% to 223,367 units, an all-time high from January to August. The Baojun 560 SUV exceeded expectations in its first six weeks on the market.

Wuling sales declined 8.1% to 948,643 units in the January-August timeframe due to continued contraction of the mini-commercial vehicle market.
