The representative stated, “The venture demonstrated our ability to quickly ideate and trial in the market, and highlighted what a dedicated, nimble team can achieve when they stay attuned to the customer’s needs and are willing to experiment.”

The company plans to investigate options for relocating Swaggle’s workforce within its group, while providing support to others during the transition.

The representative further added, “It also serves as a reminder of the need to acknowledge market shifts and to redirect our focus and capital to ensure the continued execution of our strategy.” The spokesperson went on to express, “As the pet market’s demands have transformed and client needs have developed, we have made the difficult decision to close down our Swaggle Pet business from the beginning of April.”

  • Apple’s Subtle Strategy: Unveiling New Ipad Pro Amidst Rising Competition And Foldable Tech Future

Apple’s Subtle Strategy: Unveiling New Ipad Pro Amidst Rising Competition And Foldable Tech Future

While there might not be any flashy Apple product launch event in the offing, it seems a new collection of Cupertino’s devices are set for a low-key announcement in the following days. This subtle approach to unveiling a new generation of iPad Pro via a simple press release, though not entirely unheard of, sparks the question: does Apple still have faith in its tablet line?

Apple’s Shift in Focus: iPad or Not?

Considering Apple’s current range of iPads, including the 11-inch iPad, two 2025 iPad Air models with M3 power, a seventh-generation iPad mini only around a year old, and the May 2024-released 11 and 13-inch iPad Pros with M4 power expected to be succeeded this month, the answer seems to be a resounding yes.

However, some might argue that iPads have been relegated to the background in Apple’s product lineup in recent years. This wasn’t always the case; recall the buzz surrounding the release of the 2020 iPad Pro (4th Generation) with its “breakthrough LiDAR” technology.

While the iPad might not have been the apple of the company’s eye as much as the iPhone family, it does seem that the gap between the two product lines is widening. For instance, when was the last time you saw an iPad advertisement on TV, on YouTube, or elsewhere? If Apple’s marketing budget is anything to go by, AirPods and Apple Watches have taken precedence, making iPads feel like third-class citizens in the product hierarchy.

    The Puzzle of Market Leadership

Despite this, iPads still dominate the tablet industry. So, why is the new M5-powered iPad Pro edition not receiving the grand launch it deserves? In the second quarter of 2025, Apple sold around a third of the world’s tablets. Moreover, during the same period the previous year, when the predecessor of the iPad Pro debuted on the market, Apple’s market share stood at an even more remarkable 36.6 percent, beating out competitors Samsung and Lenovo.

Indeed, competition might be part of the problem. With competitors like Samsung, Lenovo, Amazon, Xiaomi, Huawei, and Microsoft stepping up their game in the tablet market, one would expect Apple to follow suit and increase both advertising efforts and innovation for the iPad line.

    The Innovation and Marketing Conundrum

However, iPads have an apparent problem with innovation and marketing. Consider, for instance, the 60Hz refresh rate-limited iPad Air (2025) screens, the largely unchanged iPad Pro design over the years, or the outdated Apple A16 Bionic processor in the 2025 “vanilla” iPad.

Despite these issues, it’s challenging to criticize the potentially familiar-looking iPad Pro (M5) edition, especially when competitors like the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra have their own flaws and a high starting price of $1,200.

    The Age of Foldables

In recent years, Apple seems to be focusing on more than just enhancing the iPad Pro. The tech giant appears to be investing in the development of foldable devices. Rumors of the first-ever foldable iPhone, likely to be launched next year, and the first foldable iPad, which may follow soon after, are making the rounds. The latter is anticipated to be a hybrid between a tablet and a full-scale Mac computer, potentially carrying a hefty price tag.

    Questions & Answers

Does Apple still believe in tablets?
Given their current lineup of iPads and upcoming releases, it appears that Apple still has faith in its tablet line.

Why isn’t the new M5-powered iPad Pro receiving a grand launch?
While iPads are still market leaders, it seems that Apple has shifted its marketing focus towards other products like the iPhone, AirPods, and Apple Watches.

What are the upcoming innovations expected from Apple?
Apple appears to be focusing on the development of foldable devices, with rumors suggesting the launch of the first-ever foldable iPhone and iPad in the near future.

  • 5 Ways to Practice Underarm Care This Spring

5 Ways to Practice Underarm Care This Spring

Spring is here, and that means lighter fabrics, warmer days, and, of course, more time outdoors. But with the change in seasons, your underarms can start feeling the effects—dryness, irritation, and even unwanted discoloration. If you’ve ever considered visiting a medical aesthetic clinic for treatments like armpit whitening, you’re not alone. Many people struggle with underarm concerns, especially during seasonal transitions.

The good news? A few simple tweaks to your routine can make a big difference. Here’s how to care for your underarms this spring so you can stay fresh, smooth, and confident all season long.

Common Underarm Concerns as the Seasons Change

Spring brings warmer temperatures and higher humidity. That means your body naturally sweats more, leading to potential odor, irritation, and clogged pores. If you’re wearing sleeveless tops, you might also notice rough or darkened skin under your arms—a sign that dead skin cells are building up.

Another issue? Hair removal irritation. Whether you shave, wax, or use other methods, your skin is extra sensitive in this area. Without proper care, you can end up with razor bumps, redness, and ingrown hairs.

But don’t worry. A little extra attention will help you keep your underarms smooth, healthy, and irritation-free. Let’s get into it.

How to Look After Your Underarms This Spring

    Exfoliate Regularly for Smooth Skin

Think about it—your face and body get regular exfoliation, so why not your underarms? Dead skin cells, deodorant residue, and bacteria can build up over time, leading to rough texture and dark spots.

Use a gentle exfoliant, like a mild scrub or a chemical exfoliant with lactic or glycolic acid, once or twice a week. This helps slough off dead skin, brighten the area, and even prevent ingrown hairs. But remember—gentleness is key. The underarm skin is delicate, so don’t overdo it with harsh scrubs.

One quick tip? Try exfoliating in the evening, so your skin has time to recover overnight before applying deodorant in the morning.

    Switch to a Skin-Friendly Deodorant

Deodorant is a daily essential, but not all formulas are created equal. Some contain harsh ingredients like alcohol or aluminum, which can clog pores, irritate sensitive skin, and contribute to underarm discoloration.

If you often deal with irritation or itching, consider switching to a natural or hypoallergenic deodorant. Look for ingredients like coconut oil, shea butter, and arrowroot powder—these help keep your skin calm and dry without harsh chemicals.

Not ready to ditch your antiperspirant completely? Try a hybrid approach. Use a natural deodorant on days when you don’t need heavy-duty sweat protection, and reserve antiperspirant for long days or workouts.

    Keep Your Underarms Hydrated

Moisturizing your underarms might sound odd, but it’s just as important as keeping the rest of your body hydrated. Dry, flaky skin can lead to irritation and discomfort—especially if you shave regularly.

Use a lightweight, fragrance-free moisturizer or an aloe-based gel to keep the skin soft and smooth. Some people even swear by using a little bit of their facial serum (like hyaluronic acid) under their arms to lock in moisture without clogging pores.

Another hack? Apply moisturizer at night, so your skin has time to absorb it without being disturbed by deodorant or sweat during the day.

    Choose Hair Removal Methods Wisely

Shaving is quick and convenient, but it can also cause razor burns, ingrown hairs, and dark spots. If you shave frequently, use a sharp razor and a moisturizing shaving gel to reduce irritation. And never shave dry—this is a fast track to redness and discomfort.

Waxing is another option, but it can be harsh on sensitive skin. If you go this route, exfoliate beforehand to prevent ingrown hairs and soothe the area afterward with a calming lotion.

For those looking for a longer-term solution, laser hair removal is a great choice. It reduces hair growth over time and can even help lighten dark patches caused by constant shaving. If you’re considering this, spring is a great time to start since you’ll need to avoid direct sun exposure during treatments.

    Prioritize Breathability & Hygiene

What you wear matters more than you think. Tight, synthetic fabrics trap moisture, creating the perfect environment for bacteria to thrive. If you want to keep your underarms fresh, stick to breathable fabrics like cotton or linen—especially when temperatures start rising.

Daily hygiene is also key. Wash your underarms thoroughly with a mild, pH-balanced cleanser to remove sweat and bacteria. If you’re prone to odor, a gentle antibacterial soap can help.

And a final tip? Give your underarms a break from deodorant once in a while. Going “bare” for a day or two lets your skin breathe and prevents product buildup.

Build a Simple Routine for Healthy Underarms

Underarm care doesn’t have to be complicated. With just a few small changes—exfoliating, moisturizing, choosing gentle products, and prioritizing hygiene—you can keep your underarms looking and feeling their best this spring.

Whether you’re prepping for a sleeveless season or just want to feel more comfortable in your skin, these tips will help. And if you’re dealing with persistent concerns like dark spots or irritation, a good dermatologist can offer professional solutions tailored to your needs.

So go ahead—refresh your routine, embrace the warmer weather, and enjoy feeling confident all season long.

  • New Zealand personal care brand Ethique concentrates on raising the bar

New Zealand personal care brand Ethique concentrates on raising the bar

Brianne West founded zero-waste beauty and lifestyle brand Ethique in her kitchen in Christchurch back in 2012, while completing her science degree. Since then, Ethique’s plastic-free products for face, hair, body, and home have prevented the manufacture and disposal of more than 11 million plastic containers worldwide, with a goal of 500 million by the end of 2030.

But West didn’t start out having all the answers. So she started with questions.

“I had absolutely no knowledge at all, I just did a lot of research. I’m a person who’s curious about pretty much everything,” West said. “The advantage of that is I’m very happy to spend hours of time searching Google or talking to people and really understanding more about products and materials.”

West understands that it’s not always easy for brands to tell the wood from the trees when it comes to the sourcing of sustainable materials. This is why she says it’s so important to be curious, ask questions and, most importantly, ask for proof.

“I’m lucky I’m a qualified scientist but [my advice is to] break something down to its component pieces to understand how that works, ask for proven or independent studies – that could be biodegradability or compostability studies if you’re looking at the packaging.”

Of course, operating sustainability is not just about environmentally friendly packaging. As a certified B Corp, Ethique aims to operate sustainably and ethically in every single way.

“Every decision we make, we factor in whether it’s fair and kind to the people we are dealing with and whether it’s detrimental to the environment. And if the answer is that it’s not ideal, then we don’t do it,” West said.

“One example would be our fair trade policy. We ensure that with the ingredients we buy, people are paid fairly for them and they have ownership of the value chain. We try to work directly with people who produce it, so that they can get all the value out of their product.”

Ethique also has a charitable program – donating 2 percent of sales to conservation, animal welfare, and environmental groups – and Living Wage certification for all teams.

    Crowdfunding and solid support

Ethique was equity crowdfunded twice: first in 2015 with PledgeMe, which raised $200,000 in under 10 days; and two years later, when the brand was more established, raising half a million dollars in less than 90 minutes.

“The key to crowdfunding is to tell a really compelling story and to get as many people interested before you actually launch. It needs to be something people can really get behind, be passionate about and want to see succeed,” West said. “Of course, you’ve also got to have really solid financials, make sure that what you’re saying is true so you are not misleading people.”

With around 350 shareholders onboard, Ethique had a wide pool from which to get feedback on packaging and processes, but it did add to the pressure.

“It was a massive support and a wonderful feeling having them there, but also I was acutely aware that I had a good chunk of people’s money resting on my shoulders and I never took that lightly.”

In October 2020, Ethique completed “a very large investment phase” and was able to give back to those shareholders who had supported the business for so long.

“Ninety-nine percent of those shareholders recognized the value of the shares and moved away with an enormous return,” West said. “Although they were sad to leave the company, they were very handsomely rewarded for their support of us, which is amazing. It was really cool to be able to pay off some of our shareholders’ mortgages, which was kind of the goal.”

    Ethique goes global

Ethique is now in 24 markets globally, with 4500 stockists around the world. A 2016 article propelled the brand to new audiences and before long, Britney Spears and Ashton Kutcher were sharing the brand on their social media platforms.

    West has no idea how.

“That was a total accident. I’ve no idea how they got hold of it. It was a total fluke!”

Today, the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan are Ethique’s top-performing markets. In some of these markets, the product range is adapted to better meet the needs of shoppers. In Japan, for example, sweet and citrus fragranced products are preferred over woody smells, West explained.

    Moving with the market

While best known for products in bar form, Ethique is now experimenting with concentrates, as West believes that’s where the category is headed.

“If I was to bet on a horse, it would be on concentrates, not refillable,” she said.

Ethique now provides naturally derived and sustainably sourced active ingredients in a compostable cardboard box, and the customer adds water to create their own liquid product. There is a tutorial on the website to show customers how it’s done.

“We’re targeting people who don’t use shampoo bars because we’ve already solved the problem there, and I don’t want to cannibalize those sales. We have found that people who’d like bars stay with bars, so this is for people who prefer a liquid product.”

While Ethique might not be able to convince everybody that concentrates are the way forward, West believes they’re a more convenient solution for the customer. However, she is glad to see more sustainable choices on the market for consumers regardless.

“Typically it’s very hard to create mass behavior change. If you can make a sustainable product convenient, then they pick up will be much quicker,” she said.

“If you’re refilling dishwashing liquid, shampoo, conditioner, laundry detergent etc, you’ve got five or six bottles that you’ve got to carry around with you. It’s just not something a lot of people will do,” West explained. “I know a few retailers who find [refillables] very capital intensive and very messy, from a labor perspective, so there are some challenges.”

    Real change, not greenwashing

As someone whose whole business proposition has been around sustainability from the get-go, West does find it frustrating to see so many businesses talk a lot about sustainability without making genuine change.

“When businesses are greenwashing or completely misleading their consumers, if they put a tenth of the effort into actually doing something, they would genuinely start to change the world,” she said.

But she does understand how difficult it is for bigger companies that have operated one way for so long to shift their core focus to sustainability.

Her advice is: “If you are trying to retroactively put sustainability at the core of your business, do it one thing at a time, and do it properly.”

Google introduces an AI tool that diagnoses skin conditions

At Google I/O the company introduced a web-based feature for smartphones that helps diagnose skin conditions. The feature uses AI (artificial intelligence) to detect dermatological conditions. The company also announced plans for its AI to be used by doctors for diagnosing breast cancer and tuberculosis as well.

Previously, Google shared a preview of the AI-powered dermatology assist tool, and now the official version is ready. The tool will be native for Google Search and use your phone’s camera to take three different pictures from various angles of the part of your body that you’re concerned with. The tool will not only work with skin, but also with nail and hair dermatological conditions.

After you take the pictures of the body area in question, you’ll be asked a couple of questions from the tool itself. These questions will regard your skin type, how long you’ve had the issue and if you’ve had any other symptoms. This will help the AI tool with your diagnosis.

The tool will show information for each matching condition and photographic examples, as well as official information from a dermatologist. It has 280 dermatology conditions in its database. It also uses many of the same techniques used to detect diabetic eye disease and lung cancer in CT scans.

Google says that the diagnosis from the tool is only a suggestion and its point is to give you more information. You should still seek medical help if you have a problem.

According to the company, each year they see around ten billion Google searches about skin, hair and nail conditions. Two billion people suffer from such issues worldwide. The new dermatology AI tool will be available in the EU at first later this year. It has passed clinical validation and is marked as a Class I medical device in the EU, but not yet in the USA.

  • Healthy Life to join Go Vita network Immediately

Healthy Life to join Go Vita network Immediately

Australian retailer Healthy Life will join the nation’s largest health food store group, Go Vita, in the hope of strengthening the retail health channel.

GoVita has more than 135 independently-owned and operated health stores in its network. Going forward, Healthy Life’s 50-plus store network will be co-branded as GoVita & Healthy Life, and both brands will retain their current identity.

“In the face of an increasingly competitive and challenging retail environment, we believe this move will strengthen the retail health channel for the future,” said Healthy Life general manager, Craig Johnston in a statement on Tuesday.

Healthy Life Group also plans to boost growth by investing further in its private label range for export.

“By joining forces with Go Vita and shoring up the retail health channel we can both benefit from the significant growth that has seen the complementary medicine sector grow by 70 per cent in the last five years alone to an estimated $4.9 billion and the organic food market, which has grown by 88 per cent to an estimated $2.4 billion in Australia,” Healthy Life chairman Rolf Krecklenberg said.

Go Vita CEO Terry Hughes said the move is great for both parties and will give Australians easier access to premium health and wellness products and services.

“They Healthy Life have joined as members of Go Vita, enabling Go Vita to have a larger footprint to better serve the health & wellness sector across Australia with an increased store base just short of 180 stores nationally,” Terry Hughes CEO Go Vita told.

“Health food stores play a vital role in the growth of Australia’s health and wellness industry. They are the incubators and launch pads for new, innovative products onto the Australian market and are a critical part of our retail landscape; ensuring consumers have diversity of choice about what they buy, and where they shop.”

Commenting on whether there would be store closures in areas where Healthy Life/Go Vita store locations overlap Hughes said, “this will be reviewed on a case by case situation”.

“If the Healthy Life store is within 1 km of the existing Go Vita store we will look to relocate the Healthy Life store.”

  • China’s baby-care market sees boost

    China’s baby-care market sees boost

China’s baby-care market achieved total sales of RMB9.617 billion (US$1.4 billion) last year, reflecting rapid growth, according to new research from Mintel. Between 2013 and last year, the market recorded a CAGR of 19 per cent thanks to the relaxation of the one-child policy and a consumer trend towards premiumisation in the country.

Baby skincare is the largest segment of China’s baby-care market, accounting for 60 per cent. The baby-bath and soap segment comes in second, at 31 per cent, followed by the baby-hair products segment which accounts for roughly 10 per cent.

“China’s baby-care market grew at a considerable rate in recent years and will see sustained growth in the next five years,” said Vicky Zhou, research analyst at Mintel China.

“Although the current slower birth rate will affect the market, increased spending on each child and higher usage frequency should make up for the market’s growth.”

    Usage

Insect repellents for babies was the fastest-growing sector last year, with as many as 47 per cent of Chinese consumers aged 20-39 with children aged up to three years old saying they have used baby insect repellents more often during the last year.

Meanwhile, nearly half of Chinese consumers say that they have been using baby shower gels and baby body lotions or creams more often in the past year, rounding up the top three products with the highest change in usage frequency among Chinese consumers.

Baby suncare also has recorded the least increase in usage frequency with only 15 per cent of Chinese consumers having used this more often in the past year, and more than 65 per cent have not used baby sun-care products.

Skin is always a priority among Chinese parents. ‘Solve skin problems’ (71 per cent) and ‘contain ingredients that can benefit skin’ (68 per cent) are the top two attributes that parents are willing to pay a premium for when purchasing baby-care products.

    Problems

Just over a third (34 per cent) of Chinese consumers say their biggest concern when choosing products is not knowing if it is suitable for their babies, while 32 per cent say they are afraid to try products they have not used before.

Furthermore, 29 per cent say they do not know the ingredients used in the products, and lack understanding of the advantages of one brand versus another.

“Parents are interested in and willing to pay a premium for baby-care products with premium claims, specifically products that can solve skin problems or contain ingredients that can bring benefits to their babies’ skin,” Zhou concluded.

China’s baby-care market is expected to see sustained growth during the next five years, with total sales set to grow at a CAGR of 14.5 per cent, reaching RMB18.888 billion in 2023.

Luxury cosmetic brand Giorgio Armani Beauty to Join Tmall

Giorgio Armani Beauty will launch a flagship store on Alibaba-owned B2C shopping platform Tmall next month as part of the brand’s latest campaign to capture China’s fast growing appetite for high-end beauty products, Alibaba said Monday.

The luxury beauty and skin care brand, owned by the world leading cosmetic giant L’Oreal, will hold a series of pre-sale events on Tmall for the next three weeks ahead of its official launch on Jan 16. As part of the rev-up, the brand is offering 4,000 cases of its iconic “My Armani To Go” cushion foundation exclusively to be sold on the platform during the period.

On the day of the launch, the brand will also open a store on the Luxury Pavilion, the invite-only section within the shopping site for premium and luxury brands. Brands including Burberry, Hugo Boss, La Mer, Maserati and Guerlain (LVMH) have joined since the platform was first introduced in August this year.

China’s beauty product sector has seen a boom in recent years in tandem with the rapid development of the Chinese economy. According to China’s National Bureau of Statistics, retail sales of cosmetic items in the first 11 months of this year notched a 13.5% on-year growth, amounting to RMB $228.5 billion ($34.87 billion).

Recognizing China’s fast-growing demand for high-quality cosmetic products and Tmall’s expansive reach with its 500 million active users, many top beauty names such as Lancome, La Mer, MAC, Bobbi Brown, Fresh and Kiehl’s have opened up shops on Tmall in recent years.

In a recent interview with China Daily, Veronique Gautier, global president of Giorgio Armani Fragrances & Beauty, said Armani Beauty has seen stellar growth in China, at twice the speed of the rest of the markets combined.

On Jan 12, several of the Giorgio Armani Beauty’s high-ranking executives will appear at an event in Beijing to announce the official launch of the flagship store on Tmall. The brand will also introduce a high-tech showcase of its 2018 spring-summer collection.

As part of tie-up, the brand and Tmall will introduce interactive digital experiences for consumers to book offline make-up sessions with beauty advisors, explore its product offerings — from the latest Ecstasy Shine lipstick crafted specifically for the Asian market to its iconic fragrances and Lip Maestro lip gloss.

Entertainment and gamification will also play a major role in attracting customers to Giorgio Armani Beauty’s new online store. By using their mobile phones, users can use the AR-powered interactive feature—Unlock Armani Codes—to scan anything that contains any of the six-letters in the word “Armani.” Those who have collected all six letters will have the chance to win sample kits priced at RMB 260 each.
