  • YouTube now offers QR codes for channel sharing

YouTube now offers QR codes for channel sharing

YouTube is now offering its creators another convenient way to share their channels with their audience, via QR codes. This feature is being rolled out to all creators globally and can be accessed easily from the YouTube app itself.

If you’re a creator, here’s how you can grab your QR code:

    1. Open the YouTube app on your phone (Android or iOS).
    2. Tap on the “You” tab at the bottom.
    3. You’ll see a little button under your channel name that says “Share channel”. Tap it.
    4. In the menu that pops up, tap “QR code”.
This will generate a full-screen QR code that you can save to your camera roll or take a screenshot of. This QR code prominently features your channel logo, making it visually identifiable.

This update from YouTube is more than just a cool feature. It’s a smart move that benefits both creators and viewers. For creators, it’s a simple and effective way to promote their channels and gain new subscribers. For viewers, it’s a hassle-free way to find and follow the channels they love. For viewers, it simplifies the process of finding and subscribing to channels, as all they need to do is scan the QR code with their phone’s camera, and they’ll be taken directly to the channel.

In the past, creators had to rely on third-party apps to generate QR codes for their channels. This often meant dealing with ads or limited customization options. Now, YouTube has built this feature right into their app, making it seamless and user-friendly.
Ultimately, YouTube’s new QR code feature is a win-win for everyone involved. It’s a small but impactful change that makes the platform even more accessible and engaging. Whether you’re a creator looking to grow your audience or a viewer looking for great content, QR codes are a handy tool to have in your back pocket.
  • YouTube now gives its creators a way to wipe content violation warnings from their channel

YouTube now gives its creators a way to wipe content violation warnings from their channel

In a surprising move this morning, YouTube published a change to the Community Guidelines that govern what content creators can and cannot do on the platform. Under this new rule, creators that —knowingly or unknowingly— violate any of these guidelines will now get a chance to right their wrong and lift the warning from their channel.
The announcement was made via a video posted to the official YouTube Creators channel and the YouTube Official Blog which included detailed instructions on what to expect and what creators should do in case of a violation warning. Under these revised guidelines, creators who receive a warning for policy violations now have an intriguing option at their disposal — an educational training course.
Here’s the great part: once the creator successfully completes the course, YouTube will remove the warning from their channel, just as long as they don’t violate the same policy for the next 90 days. It’s like a friendly handshake agreement to play by the rules. However, should the creator fail to follow through, the video in question will be removed and a strike will be applied to the channel.

If the creator violates the same policy again, but after the 90 period, the video in question will be removed and the creator will be issued another warning. However – and surprisingly – another chance will be given to take another training course and once again wipe the warning from the channel.

This change represents a significant shift in how YouTube deals with policy violations. In the past, YouTube would move to immediately remove the video in question and apply a lifetime warning to the channel. Now, it’s all about education and second chances.
It is clear that monetization is a big motive for the policy change. Previously, policy warnings were more general and affected the entire channel, whereas with the new policy, warnings are more specific on what was breached. Giving creators a chance to fix warnings before they become strikes will allow for more content to stay up on YouTube and avoid the 3-strike rule that has been known to get channels terminated from the platform.

The Roku Channel adds 50 free Live TV channels

The Roku Channel is adding new content all the time, which is probably one of the reasons it’s one of the most popular providers of live TV channels. Today, the service announced that no less than 50 Live TV channels will be available for free via The Roku Channel.

The new Live TV channels will be available as part of a new category of entertainment called Espacio Latino, a brand-new Spanish language hub in the United States, which offers thousands of hours of content to Spanish-speaking audiences in one easy location.

Apart from sports, news entertainment, telenovelas, movies, and music, Espacio Latino will also feature thousands of free, original, and exclusive movies and TV shows in Spanish, plus popular English titles dubbed and subtitled.

Out of the 50 Spanish language Live TV channels available through Espacio Latino, over 25 are brand-new to The Roku Channel. Keep in mind that all channels will be accessible via Espacio Latino and The Roku Channel’s Live TV Guide. Also, content from Premium Subscriptions will be available for streamers to enjoy in the category.

According to Roku, some of its original titles will be available on Espacio Latino too, including the recently released title Mamas (narrated in Spanish by Zoe Saldana), as well as Natural Born Narco, which will debut on July 8.

Last but not least, fans of Espacio Latino should expect even more content, as Roku is working with multiple content partners, including NBCUniversal Telemundo, Hemisphere Media Group, Eurochannel, Weather Group, BBC Studios, Lionsgate, Sony Pictures Television, A+E Networks, and more.

  • Vietnamese exporters squeezed by Suez blockage

Vietnamese exporters squeezed by Suez blockage

The congestion caused by the Suez Canal blockage is delaying the shipment of Vietnamese goods to Europe and the Americas, and the exporters are fretting.

The owner of a seafood exporting company in the southern province of An Giang is waiting for a five-container ship to pass through the canal on its way to France.

However, the ongoing congestion will not allow the ship to exit the canal until Friday or Saturday, delaying the shipment by two weeks, exposing the company to fines of 0.3-0.5 percent of the order value.

This is the first major delivery of the company this year and the owner fears major damage, given the high value of the shipment. He is hoping that the buyer will acknowledge the force majeure circumstance and not impose any fine.

Many Vietnamese logistics companies are in the same boat after the six-day blockage caused by the mega-ship Ever Given disrupted the global supply chain by jamming the shortest shipping route between Europe and Asia.

Even though the ship was moved on Monday, Le Duy Hiep, chairman of the Vietnam Logistics Business Association, said most companies were still seeing their shipments delayed.

Imports from Europe and the Americas to Vietnam are also being put off, he said.

“Nearly 400 ships, including those from Vietnam, are queued up at the canal. It will take days to clear all the ships, causing damage to both logistics companies and exporters,” he said.

Europe is one of Vietnam’s biggest seafood export markets with a value of more than $1 billion last year. The resurgence of Covid-19 in some countries there and the Suez blockage is causing major difficulties for Vietnamese exporters.

Truong Dinh Hoe, general secretary of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), said that Vietnam and many other countries are short of containers for exports and face surging freight rates, and the Suez blockage could make this go even higher.

Tran Thanh Hai, deputy head of the export-import department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, said that the blockage is a wake-up call for Vietnamese businesses. He urged them to be more careful and prepare for worst-case scenarios.

For example, transporting goods by train from Vietnam to Germany costs slightly higher than ships, but takes 15-20 days less, and businesses should consider this an alternative option, he said.

Businesses should also buy the insurance and think of it as part of their regular expenses instead of taking chances, he added.

  • Belstaff Japan Winding Down

    Belstaff Japan Winding Down

The British luxury fashion retailer has six stores trading in the market, which it entered back in 2015 via a wholly owned subsidiary, opening its first store in March 2016.

While the brand is making its direct exit, Belstaff Japan customers will still be able to buy its goods from authorized retailers, supplied from the UK head office.

Belstaff has previously announced it is shifting its focus to selling online in the US and developing a wholesale distribution channel in Italy. The returns from the Belstaff Japan business were insufficient to continue to operate there.

  • Disney’s video streaming service will be a dream come true

Disney’s video streaming service will be a dream come true

Back in November, we told you that Disney’s video streaming service, which will compete with Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and Apple, is going to be called Disney+. According to Polygon, during the entertainment giant’s stockholders meeting last week, company CEO Bob Iger passed along some information related to the streaming service. Perhaps the most exciting bit of news that the executive revealed is something that will make Disney fans open their wallets as soon as the service is launched. Disney+ will offer “the entire Disney motion picture library.”
If you’ve ever watched the Disney Channel, you know that Disney only offers a title on DVD for a limited time, and then locks it back into the Disney Vault for a number of years before it is released again. But once Disney+ is launched, the Vault gets blown up. Besides all of those classics and more recent hits (including Frozen), Iger says that there will be some original programming including a live action Star Wars series called The Mandalorian.
In case you were wondering, Iger says that new theatrical releases will take about a year to go from silver screen to your phone screen. Disney+ will “combine both the old and the new,” the CEO said. “All of the films that we’re releasing this year, starting with Captain Marvel, will also be on the service.”
While Iger didn’t reveal a launch date for Disney+, he did say that the service will debut later this year.
  • Huawei confident of 5G role in Vietnam

Huawei confident of 5G role in Vietnam

Huawei Technologies says it has a good chance to be a supplier of 5G equipment to Vietnamese service providers. Fine Fan, CEO of Huawei Vietnam, said that the Chinese company is in talks with Vietnamese partners on conducting 5G trials later this year. “We are confident of expanding in Vietnam,” Fan said, adding that Vietnamese Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung “is open to every provider.”

Fan said that Huawei cannot be beaten on quality or cost in Vietnam. “Huawei will provide better technology and solutions, along with financial support to local operators to deploy 5G.”

Huawei’s expression of confidence comes as major mobile carriers in Vietnam have previously announced plans to develop 5G networks using equipment from other suppliers, including Ericsson, Nokia and Samsung Electronics.

Viettel, the country’s largest telecommunications company, became the first firm to receive permission to trial 5G services last month.

The company has earmarked $40 million for the development of its own 5G chipset, but was also considering using technology from Ericsson and Nokia, its president and CEO Le Dang Dung said.

Last November, Minister Hung said at a conference that Vietnam should test 5G in 2019 and ensure nationwide coverage by 2020.

“Vietnam should be one of the first to launch the network, at least in Hanoi and HCMC,” Hung said. The country had been one of the last in Southeast Asia to roll out 4G services.

Huawei has been the largest provider of 2G and 3G network equipment in Vietnam, though the company lost its lead when 4G arrived, CEO Fan said.

Vietnam’s telecom market was estimated at more than $16 billion in 2016, with the three state-owned providers, Viettel, MobiFone, and VNPT, accounting for 95 percent of the market.

5G is said to offer speeds 100 times faster than 4G, primarily used for smartphones and other similar devices. 5G is also expected to support new applications like remote medical procedures and autonomous driving.

  • For first few years, Koreans will be biggest users of 5G

For first few years, Koreans will be biggest users of 5G

Korea is forecasted to have the highest proportion of fifth-generation (5G) smartphone usage in the world over the next couple of years, a market tracker said on Sunday. According to Strategy Analytics’ Service Provider Group, the adoption rate of 5G smartphones in Korea is expected to reach 5.5 percent in 2019 and 10.9 percent in 2020, which will be the highest level among major global nations.

The estimate is based on the fact that Korea is to commercialize 5G services next March, making it the first country in the world to do so, with tech giant Samsung Electronics planning to release a model featuring the high-end technology, the market tracker said.

By 2020, 5G will account for 4.7 percent of total market share in the United States, 5.2 percent in Japan and 2.8 percent in China, Strategy Analytics said, adding that its penetration rate would increase after that date in line with the broader establishment of the network.

In 2021, the adoption rate of 5G smartphones is expected to begin to surge in major countries, with numbers hitting 27 percent in the United States, followed by 21.3 percent in South Korea, 19.7 percent in Japan and 8.5 percent in China.

“The 5G standard will become the mainstream of the global network industry in years to come,” said an industry insider.

  • Visa Thailand to strengthen security in payment

Visa Thailand to strengthen security in payment

Visa, the world’s leader in digital payments, has today launched its Future of Security Roadmap for Thailand, outlining a robust approach for strengthening payments security in the country over the next 3 years. Visa’s Roadmap focuses on a number of key initiatives which will enable security to evolve at the same pace as the technologies changing the way we pay. These security initiatives include:

    • Devalue data by removing the sensitive data from the ecosystem and making stolen account details useless.
    • Protect data by implementing safeguards to protect personal data as well as account details.
    • Harness data by identifying potential fraud before it occurs and increase confidence in approving good transactions.
    • Empower everyone, including accountholders, 3rd party providers and merchants, to play an active role in securing payments.

Suripong Tantiyanon, Country Manager, Visa Thailand said: “We are proud to be launching our Thailand Future of Security Roadmap. Securing the commerce ecosystem is our highest priority and one we view as a shared responsibility between payment networks, consumers, banks, and the government. Technology has enabled new innovative ways to pay and be paid, but it has also brought unique risks. To stay ahead of fraud, we need to work together and give security the same attention and investment as we do the innovations driving new commerce experiences.”

The release of Visa’s Roadmap comes at a time of rapid change for payments in Thailand with innovations such as mobile payments set to enhance the payment experience for consumers. According to Visa’s Consumer Payment Attitudes Study, security remains a key consideration for consumers across Southeast Asia with two-thirds (67 percent) concerned about the safety of their personal information when using their mobile phone to make payments.

When asked specifically about what their top three concerns were when using their mobile phones to make payments, consumers in Thailand said losing my phone or having my phone stolen, my phone getting hacked or someone intercepting my data, and malware or viruses being installed on my phone.

Visa works with industry stakeholders including financial institutions, merchants, policy makers, law enforcement and accountholders to secure payments. The Visa Future of Security Roadmap is the product of comprehensive consultations and collaboration, making it an authoritative document on Thailand payments security.

Visa is delivering roadmaps around the world to ensure the security of the global commerce ecosystem, as well as working with Thai industry bodies to align security initiatives.

  • Amazon, channel for Vietnam’s apparel to enter EU

Amazon, channel for Vietnam’s apparel to enter EU

Amazon, leading online shopping channel, has the potential to become a window for Vietnamese textile and garment products to gain access to European Union market. This was stated in Hanoi at a seminar, organised by Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association. Vietnamese businesses got advice on e-commerce by experts from Germany’s Vorwarts company at the event.

Vorwarts CEO André M. Åslund said the quality of Vietnam’s garment products satisfied EU consumers. Many enterprises in Vietnam and Asia were selling their products to the EU via intermediaries or outlets. However, if products are sold on Amazon, intermediaries will not be needed, leading to reduction in cost and improvement in Vietnamese apparel’s competitiveness in EU markets, according to Vietnamese media reports.

Up to 76 per cent of consumers use mobile phones to shop online, and 50 per cent of mobile phone users shop via Amazon, Åslund said.

Noting that consumers’ behaviours were changing, he said instead of solely depending on products’ prestige, their interest and trust were now also framed by other factors such as product review and description, and other consumers’ assessment, the reports said.

Therefore, businesses should pay more attention to quality information provision and product quality to get good assessments. Those evaluations will encourage EU consumers to buy Vietnamese products, Åslund said.

However, businesses must comply with regulations of EU markets and improve product design to meet consumers’ taste. Once consumers are satisfied, they will introduce products to others, he said.
