    Chubb acquires Liberty Mutual’s insurance businesses in Vietnam, Thailand

    Chubb Limited has announced agreements to acquire the insurance businesses of Liberty Mutual in Thailand and Vietnam without disclosing the terms.

    The two companies — LMG Insurance in Thailand and Liberty Insurance in Vietnam —offer a range of consumer and commercial property and casualty (P&C) products, including automotive, acccident & health and non-motor insurance such as fire/property and industrial all-risk.

    This portfolio is coupled with complementary distribution through 56 branches, 2,600 brokers and agents, and 26 finance partners. The combined operations produced approximately US$$275 million in net premiums written in 2024.

    The transactions are expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2025 (Thailand) and late 2025 / early 2026 (Vietnam) and are subject to required regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.

    With operations in 54 countries and territories, Chubb provides commercial and personal property and casualty insurance, personal accident and supplemental health insurance, reinsurance and life insurance to a diverse group of clients.

    The company is defined by its extensive product and service offerings, broad distribution capabilities, exceptional financial strength and local operations globally.

    Digital service provider to help customers mitigate the impact of online risks, StarHub and Chubb Insurance Singapore Limited (Chubb) have introduced CyberCover, a cyber protection policy designed to provide financial support for StarHub mobile and broadband customers affected by cyber-bullying, identity theft, unauthorized transactions, and undelivered or discrepancies in online purchases.

    With CyberCover, cyber protection, traditionally offered to only enterprises, has now become accessible and affordable for all consumers, providing individuals and families with financial support in the event of cyber threats.

    Chubb Appoints Singapore Country President

    The property and casualty insurer has appointed a seasoned industry executive to lead its Singapore business.

    Chubb has appointed Kevin Bogardus as country president in Singapore, replacing Scott Simpson, who will become president for Chubb’s operations in Hong Kong and Macau, according to an announcement on Thursday.

    Bogardus, who brings more than 25 years of experience in the insurance industry, joined Chubb in 2009 as the chief advisor to Huatai Insurance, where Chubb is the largest shareholder. He helped grow Chubb’s footprint in China and expanded its business into new product lines becoming the market leader in Life Sciences, Financial Lines and Chinese multinational programs.

    In his new role, Bogardus will have overall responsibility for the growth and financial results of the operations across all lines of business and manage all affinity partnerships and drive efforts to deepen and grow them. Currently, the country president for Chubb in China but will relocate to Singapore for the role, which reports to Edward Ler, Chubb’s executive vice president and head of Southeast Asia.

    Chubb Appoints Division Head

    The property and casualty insurer is bolstering its International Personal Lines (IPL) division in Singapore.

    Chubb has appointed Tulio Puente as division head of IPL in Singapore, effective 22 November 2021, the firm announced on Thursday in a statement.

    Puente, a former economist for the Central Bank of Mexico and in the telecommunications industry in China, joined Chubb in 2014 and has held various roles at the company in Latin America and Asia Pacific, most recently underwriting for Speciality Personal Lines.

    In his new role, Puente will be responsible for the overall growth and management of Singapore’s IPL division, which includes personal risk services, residential insurance, and specialty coverage. He will also focus on growing the firm’s partnerships and driving multi-channel distribution opportunities. He reports to Scott Simpson, country president for Chubb in Singapore.

    Chubb Makes APAC Leadership Appointments

    The property and casualty insurer is making several senior management changes at its business in Asia Pacific, effective July 1, while launching a new division, it announced on Friday.

    Country president for Chubb’s general insurance business in Korea, Edward Ler, will take on a new role as head of Southeast Asia, responsible for the general management and business results in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

    Ler joined Chubb in 2013. His 18-year career in the insurance industry spans a variety of managerial roles covering the Asia Pacific, the Middle East and European markets. He will relocate to Singapore for his new role and continue to report to Paul McNamee, Chubb’s regional president for Asia Pacific.

    Ler replaces Glen Browne, who was appointed division president of consumer lines, Asia Pacific, a newly created role to oversee the accident and health and personal lines businesses in the region.

    Browne, who brings 25 years of industry experience, will also have oversight for direct marketing, consumer partnerships, and digital distribution for both the company’s general and life insurance divisions in Asia Pacific. He reports to McNamee and will work closely with Brad Bennett, Chubb Life’s chief operating officer.

    McNamee said the new division is «a response to the evolving customer and growing partnership dynamics of [Chubb’s] business, which will necessitate the sharing of data, technology, and talent to deliver superior customer and partnership outcomes.»

    Taking over Ler in Korea is Edward Kopp, who is currently the firm’s regional head for accident and health since 2019. He continues to report to McNamee in his new capacity.

    Kopp has more than 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, including distribution, product development, underwriting, channel management, and has a deep understanding of the Korean market. Prior to joining Chubb in 2012, he held several leadership roles at leading banking and insurance firms.

    Kopp’s deputy, Ben Howell will replace him as regional head of accident and health, Asia Pacific. Howell will continue to be based in Singapore and report to Browne, in the latter’s new role as Division President – Consumer Lines, Asia Pacific.

    Mr. Howell has deep experience across both commercial and consumer insurance, with underwriting, product development, partnership and distribution management expertise spanning diverse product classes. He began his career with the company in Australia, then known as ACE, in 2002 before re-joining in 2016.

    Zurich-headquartered insurer Chubb has appointed a new president for Australia and New Zealand.

    Chubb names Peter Kelaher country president for Australia and New Zealand, according to a statement, succeeding Jarrod Hill who is leaving the firm. Kelaher reports to Paul McNamee, senior vice president of Chubb Group and APAC regional president.

    Kelaher has 20 years of insurance experience and he joined Chubb in 2008 as a financial lines underwriter before being promoted to product manager for directors and officers, and P&C business lead for Australia and New Zealand in 2016.

    Chub has had a presence in Australia and New Zealand for over a century with seven branches and more than 800 staff.

    Chubb Hires APAC Property Head From AIG

    Chubb, the world’s largest publicly traded property and casualty insurer has announced new appointments for its Asia Pacific property and casualty team.

    Commercial property specialist Alex Todd has joined Chubb as its head of property, a role in which he will be responsible for the growth and performance of its commercial property portfolio in Asia, the company announced on Friday.

    Todd brings 18 years of international experience and joins from AIG, where he led a team of 50 and was accountable for a variety of first-party programs and specialty lines across Canada. Based in Chubb’s Singapore regional office, he will report to Grant Cairns, regional head of property and casualty for Asia Pacific.

    The company also appointed Jamie Park, previously Chubb’s chief underwriting officer as well as head of portfolio management, casualty, and financial lines and environmental liability in Korea, as its head of financial lines, based in Singapore.

    In her new role, Park will be responsible for the underwriting, product development, new business opportunities, as well as driving the overall profitability of Chubb’s Financial Lines portfolio in Asia.

    The appointment of the pair supports the continued drive and strategic direction of its growing property portfolio, and position as the market leader in financial lines across Asia, Chubb said in a statement.

    DBS and Chubb sign 15-year bancassurance partnership

    Singapore’s DBS Bank and insurer Chubb have signed a bancassurance agreement to distribute home, contents and selected personal accident and supplemental health (A&H) insurance products as well as general insurance products for SMEs.

    Effective 1 January 2018, the insurance distribution partnership will be valid for a period of 15 years and will cover Singapore, Hong Kong, China and Taiwan.

    The bancassurance partnership in Indonesia will be launched at a later date, subject to regulatory approval.

    Under the terms of the agreement, the lender will distribute Chubb insurance products to its six million retail, wealth and SME customers through a network of more than 200 branches as well as via its digital banking platforms.

    DBS Bank deputy group head of consumer banking and wealth management Pearlyn Phau said: “This partnership represents the coming together of two leading organisations, combining DBS’ superior Asian banking franchise with Chubb, the world’s largest publicly traded property and casualty (P&C) insurance company and a global leader in general insurance and reinsurance.
