TIDAL launches Circles, a safe space dedicated to artists

TIDAL is trying to turn itself into a comfy home for artists. Circles is the latest new feature introduced by the music service, an artist-to-artist forum that allows artists to discuss their career experiences and connect with their peers on how to navigate the music industry.

Although it’s not available to everyone, TIDAL announced that it’s giving select artists early access to use Circles, which is available in TIDAL Artist Home.

According TIDAL, Circles is secure and safe, so if you’re an artist seeking guidance or insight from peers who may have gone through similar career experiences, this might be the right space for you.

As artists, we have a tendency to feel like we’re on an island, which is why I love having artist friends because hearing about another artist experiencing this niche thing.

If you’re interested in Circles, you can start using it directly within TIDAL Artist Home where you can also browse discussions on the home feed, as well as dive deeper into key topics using the search feature.

TIDAL also confirmed that only verified artists on TIDAL Artist Home will be allowed to participate in conversations. Moreover, artists who can access TIDAL Circles have the option to post publicly in forums or anonymously to encourage a safe space for artists.

  • Bonus plan a win-win for customer and operator

Bonus plan a win-win for customer and operator

n unnamed customer of new Singapore mobile operator Circles.Life likes the service so much that he has referred over 600 new customers, thus earning himself 100 GB of free data, said Donald Chan the firm’s international director.

Chan outlined his company’s business model and strategy in a keynote on Day One of CommunicAsia2017 and included details of their data bonus plan-their cornerstone of customer retention.

He described Circles.Life as Asia’s “first fully digital telco”–from customer acquisition to service delivery. Customers communicate with the company through their iOS-or-Android app, and 95% of queries are resolved via this channel.

The only aspect of the experience which is not digital is SIM card delivery (via courier) to the customer two days after ordering.

To drive retention, Circles has a bonus plan where customers who recruit new customers earn 200MB of data. The company maintains a leader board, and the current top rank is held by a customer who has recruited 600 others.

Circles has no contracts-customers for the post-paid service engage on a month-to-month basis.

The pricing plan, said Donald Chan, is like “buying a pizza” and deciding on the toppings later.

The base plan is S$28 per month with 4GB of data, with up to 20GB of extra data for S$20 per month.

Customers can go into the Circles app and determine settings on voice and data use, alerts and caps.

Chan said Circles, which uses the M1 network in Singapore, was a “niche player” designed to appeal to “tech-savvy younger consumers who want control and flexibility.”

He said the company was looking to expand to “three-to-five” other regional markets in the next five years.

Circle’s proprietary operating system, which is “plug-and-play,” is easy to connect to any other MNO, limiting the cost of starting up in new markets.

Idea to expand 4G to nine more circles

India’s third largest mobile operator Idea Cellular has revealed plans to expand its 4G network to nine additional telecoms circles by March next year.

The operator plans to add around 57,000 new 4G cell sites this year alone.

With the expansion, Idea Cellular plans to launch of 4G in the circles of Uttar Pradesh East and West, Gujarat, Mumbai, Bihar, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Assam and Jammu & Kashmir.

This will take Idea’s total 4G footprint to 20 of India’s 22 telecoms circles. The 20 circles together account for 94% of Idea Cellular’s revenue and 90% of all industry revenue.

Idea is using the spectrum it acquired in the recent $9.8 billion spectrum auction to pursue the 4G expansion.

India’s 4G market is heating up due to the entry into the market of disruptive Pan-Indian 4G operator Reliance Jio Infocomm.

Idea’s wireless broadband network currently spans 17 circles, with the operator aiming to achieve a total of 250,000 sites this financial year.

To better compete against Reliance Jio, Idea is also increasingly pursuing a content strategy, starting with branded games. The operator plans to expand to movie and music services in the near future.
