    Citilink Adds Another A320 to its’ Fleet

    Indonesia’s flag carrier’s low cost subsidiary, Citilink Indonesia, has acquired a new aircraft that will alow it to operate extra services during the upcoming Eid holiday period.

    The Airbus A320 aircraft, which arrived from Hamburg, Germany on Thursday, is the 35th new aircraft acquired by the airline, said the Executive Director for Citilink Indonesia, Albert Burhan, through a press conference in Jakarta.

    “The addition of the new aircraft is reflective of the company’s growth in the first quarter (Q1) of 2015, which would also support Citilink’s ambition to expand its’ reach and stake in the domestic aviation industry,” said Burhan.

    “The arrival of this aircraft will also enable is to operate more services in light of the upcoming Ramadhan peak season,” said Burhan, before adding that Citilink plans to add up to 16 more flights per day between June 1 to June 15, 2015.

    It is known that extra services will be added to Citilink’s existing services between Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta Airport and Jogjakarta, Solo, Malang, Batam, Bali, and Medan’s Kuala Namu airport.

    Burhan explained in the press conference that Citilink needs to have at least 50 aircraft in order to get a bigger chunk of the domestic, low-cost aviation market. Citilink’s fleet, he continued, will grow to around 40 units by the end if the year, which will allow it to meet its’ target of delivering services to 11,2 million passengers annually – up from 7,6 million in 2014.

    AirAsia buys Irish leasing units; Citilink Indonesia bid rejected

    Asia Aviation Capital Ltd (AACL), the aircraft leasing unit of AirAsia Group Bhd, has acquired four newly incorporated companies in Ireland. AirAsia said in a stock exchange filing that AACL — its indirect wholly-owned subsidiary — had acquired the entire issued and paid-up share capital of Merah Aviation Asset Holding Two Ltd, Merah Aviation Asset Holding Three Ltd, Merah Aviation Asset Holding Four Ltd, and Merah Aviation Asset Holding Five Ltd.

    AirAsia said the four Merah Aviation companies were incorporated under the laws of Ireland on Wednesday for the purpose of owning, leasing and/or financing of aircraft. Each of Merah Aviation has issued and paid-up share capital of US$1 (RM4.09).

    In a separate matter, the Jakarta Post reported yesterday that AirAsia Indonesia’s proposal to acquire low-cost carrier (LCC) Citilink Indonesia had been rejected by Garuda Indonesia, quoting Garuda president director Ari Askhara.

    Citilink is a subsidiary of Garuda, according to the Jakarta Post report that is based on a report.  Ari was quoted as claiming that “Citilink is doing better than AirAsia, even under Garuda’s new management”.

    He said there are no internal talks within Garuda and no order from shareholders to sell Citilink. He also said Garuda has not received an official proposal from AirAsia Indonesia to buy Citilink.

    Though he conceded that talks had taken place between Garuda and AirAsia, he gave assurance that they were about possible cooperation, not acquisition.

    The report came after AirAsia Indonesia president director Dendy Kurniawan said on Monday the company was interested in acquiring Citilink because of the similarities between the two LCCs.

    “Both are LCCs. We are strong in international routes, while they (Citilink) are strong domestically. We have also a similar rating of pilots and cabin crew members.

    “We are interested. If Citilink’s shareholders welcome our offer, we will thank God. But if not, it is no problem,” Dendy said, adding that both LCCs operate Airbus aircraft.

    Indonesia’s Citilink to start up to 3 new international routes in 2018

    Low-cost airline Citilink Indonesia has announced plans to serve two or three more international routes this year in addition to the Jakarta-Penang route that started operation on Sunday and the Jakarta-Dili route that has been in operation since May, last year.

    The company said it took into consideration several aspects before opening new routes, including the destination city’s gross domestic product (GDP), to assess the business prospects.

    “These [new routes] will benefit Citilink, because we can optimize the utilization of our fleet,” Citilink finance director Fransetya Hutabarat said on the Citilink flight to Penang on Sunday.

    Meanwhile, Andy Adrian Febryanto, Citilink Indonesia’s chief commercial officer, said the new routes would be within a range of four to five flying hours, a distance coverable by Airbus A320 planes.

    “We plan to expand our [route network] to a number of cities, but I cannot disclose the routes yet,” he said.

    Citilink’s inaugural flight to Penang recorded a seat occupancy rate of 97 percent, with 176 of the 180 available seats filled.

    Penang is considered an attractive destination for airlines, as it is a modern international island city that offers tourists attractions such as heritage buildings in George Town, the Gurney Drive tourist belt, Penang Hill and others.

    Planes on the route take off from Jakarta at 9:55 a.m. and from Penang at 2:50 p.m. local time. Fransetya said the firm might increase the flight frequency in the future if demand was high.

    AirAsia has served the same route for a longer time.

    Citilink’s first new Airbus A320neo arrives in Indonesia

    Garuda Indonesia’s low-cost subsidiary, Citilink, has begun welcoming a new fleet of Airbus A320 new engine option (neo) aircraft from the Airbus factory in Toulouse, France.

    Citilink has ordered 35 aircraft from the European manufacturer since it developed the new version in 2012. The 180-passenger capacity A320neo will join 45 aircraft of the previous model, the A320 current engine option (ceo), which Citilink already owns.

    The delivery will be completed by 2021. This year, Citilink will receive five aircraft.

    “We will use them for medium-length routes like to Eastern Indonesia, to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and to Shanghai,” Citilink acting president director and finance director Mega Satria said during the welcome ceremony at the Garuda Maintenance Facility (GMF) AeroAsia Workshop in Cengkareng, Banten, on Friday.

    According to Airbus data, the A320neo features two engine options, Pratt & Whitney’s PurePower PW1100G-JM and CFM International’s LEAP-1A. Citilink’s aircraft use the latter. Along with improvements to airframe and winglets, fuel efficiency has been increased by 15 percent compared to the A320ceo.

    As of January, Airbus had received 5,069 orders of the new aircraft since it began production in January 2016. German airline Lufthansa was the first to receive one on Jan. 20 last year.

    Garuda Indonesia Announces Change in Citilink Director Board

    PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk (GIAA) changes the composition of board of directors of its subsidiary, PT Citilink Indonesia.

    The change in the composition of board of directors was made after Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Citilink Albert Burhan submitted resignation at the end of December 2016.

    Albert resigned following the case of Citilink airline’s pilots who allegedly drunk when he was about to fly Surabaya-Jakarta plane on Wednesday (12/28/2016).

    In a public expose before the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), Thursday (2/2/2017), the company reported that resignation of Citilink’s CEO or President Director Albert Burhan and Operation Director Hadinoto Soedigno was approved by the company.

    The Annual General Meeting of Shareholders (AGM) of PT Citilink Indonesia approved the change in the composition of Citilink’s board of directors by January 30, 2017.

    Additionally, PT Citilink Indonesia’s current Director is Mega Satria.

    “General Meeting of Shareholders of Citilink Indonesia has approved the change in Citilink’s Board of Directors, which is effective as of January 30, 2017,” the public expose said.

    Citilink to concentrate on flights to eastern Indonesia

    Chief Executive of Citilink Indonesia Albert Burhan said the airline would focus on expanding flights to eastern Indonesia this year.

    Albert said there are potential routes to eastern Indonesia, which have not attracted other airlines.

    “There will be plan to open routes to other areas in Papua, but we start from Jayapura. In 2017 we want to focus on expanding flights to eastern regions of the country,” he said.

    He said he knew not all airports in eastern Indonesia could take wide bodied aircraft like Airbus, the main aircraft of the subsidiary of the nations flag carrier Garuda Indonesia.

    “Only a few could be used for Airbus A320. We might have to rely more on ATR aircraft to be safe,” he said.

    He said eastern Indonesia still needs more airlines to serve flight to and from eastern Indonesia.

    He said he was optimistic Citilink could chalk up quite high load factor in flights between Jayapura and Jakarta, although there are already a number of other airlines serving the route.

    “Our target is a load factor of 80 percent. In our first flight from Jakarta to Jayapura the load factor was almost 100 percent,” he said.

    Citilink Indonesia officially started serving the Jakarta Jayapura route on Monday using Airbus A320 with a seat capacity of 180 passengers.

    Citilink Serves 745,187 Passengers during Xmas and New Year Holidays

    Low-cost carrier Citilink Indonesia carried 745,187 passengers during Christmas and New Year holidays, a 2% increase compared to the same period last year of 730,925 passengers.

    Citilink Indonesia president director Albert Burhan said that the increase was made possible thanks to Citilink’s proposal for extra seats ahead of the peak season at the end of 2016.

    “Amid heavy passenger traffic in airports during the peak season, Citilink was capable of scoring high percentage of on-time departure, i.e. above 88% percent,” he said on Tuesday.

    Citilink noted the most popular flight routes during Christmas and New Year holidays were Jakarta-Surabaya v.v., Jakarta-Medan v.v. and Jakarta-Denpasar v.v.

    “We would like to express our gratitude to all customers for their thrust to fly with Citilink Indonesia,” Albert said.

    Citilink claims that it carried 11.08 million passengers in 2016, or a 16.6% increase compared to the preceding year figure of 9.5 million.

    In the same period, Citilink also served 58 flight routes, of which 9 are new routes opened in 2016. Citilink also served carter flight from Indonesia to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia and China.

    Meanwhile, Citilink is set to fly above Papua sky on January 23 this year in a bid to expand connectivity in eastern Indonesia, having failed to do so last year.

    Hang Nadim Airport to serve flights to China, Korea

    The Citilink airline company will soon serve flights from Hang Nadim International Airport here to China and South Korea, according to the airports general manager, Suwarso.

    “Two international flights from Batam to China and South Korea have been approved and will soon be launched early next year, probably in February 2017,” Suwarso remarked here on Tuesday.

    According to him, the opening of two routes is part of an effort by the Riau Islands provincial government to increase the number of tourist visits, especially from East Asia.

    With the two new international flights, the Riau Islands provincial government hopes tourist arrivals will increase to enjoy the great tourism potential in the province.

    He said Citilink will operate Airbus A320 aircraft, with the capacity to accommodate 180 passengers, to transport tourists from China and South Korea to Riau Islands Province.

    “The Riau Islands province has formed a partnership with the tour and travel associations in China and Korea. So, with this partnership, these Batam-China and Korea routes could run smoothly,” stated Suwarso.

    He added that Indonesias free visa policy is also applicable to China and South Korea, so tourists from these countries will not need visas when visiting Indonesia.

    “Hang Nadim International Airport is open 24 hours and ready to serve international flights, so there is no problem anymore,” Suwarso noted.

    He said the airport had an international flights lounge area, with a capacity of up to 600 seats.

    International flights from this airport are currently served only by Malindo Air, travelling to Malaysia once per day.

    “If the international flights area becomes crowded, we are ready to increase the capacity of the international waiting room,” remarked Suwarso.

    Citilink recruits 70 new pilots for business expansion

    Low-cost carrier Citilink, a subsidiary of national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia, recruited 70 candidate pilots to boost the company’s business expansion after a three-month enrollment process from June to August this year.

    Citilink president director Albert Burhan said that the company had chosen the candidates out of 897 applicants from across country.

    “We need to recruit more pilots to undertake our expansion and open new routes,” Albert said at the Garuda Indonesia Training Center (GITC) in Jakarta on Monday.

    The recruited pilots will undergo a series of training at the GITC and at the Airbus training centers in Toulouse, France, and Florida, US, for at least six months. They will exercise to achieve a “type rating” as is required to operate an Airbus A320.

    Garuda Indonesia human resources director Linggarsari Suharso warned the candidate pilots that working as a pilot was a difficult job. A pilot must prioritize the safety of passengers over other considerations, he said.

    “Safety is the top priority in the transportation business,” he said at the training center on Monday.

    According to data from the Transportation Ministry last year, Indonesia needs at least 600 new pilots every year. Meanwhile, 24 pilot schools across the country graduate from 15 to 24 students each annually.

    Citilink to Open New Hong Kong-Manado Route

    Citilink, the low-cost arm of national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia, is set to open a new route from Hong Kong to Manado in North Sulawesi in a bid to lure Chinese tourists to the archipelago.

    Citilink Indonesia commercial president director Hans Nugroho said Manado was one of Indonesia’s most popular destinations among Chinese tourists besides Bali and Raja Ampat in West Papua.

    “Manado has become famous as a diving destination. Hopefully the new route will afford foreign tourists easier access to Indonesia,” said Hans.

    Using an Airbus A320 for its maiden flight on the new route, Citilink is slated to carry 180 tourists from Hong Kong to Manado on Tuesday. Hans estimated that the carrier would be able to accommodate up to 3,000 passengers until the end of August.

    According to Tourism Ministry data, the number of foreign visitors to Indonesia reached 915,200 in May, 12.6 percent of whom came from China.

    Citilink to serve international flights China-Morotai

    Citilink plans to open a new international flight route between China and the Morotai island in North Maluku to support development of the island into one of ten main tourist destinations in the country.

    Head of the North Maluku Telecommunications and Informatics Service Burhan Mansyur said the management of the airline has signed a memorandum of understanding with the district administration of Morotai on the plan to open the international flight route.

    The Morotai island was one of military bases of the Alliance Forces during the World War II facing Japan in the Pacific war.

    The plan is Citilink, a subsidiary of the nations flag carrier Garuda Indonesia, would open the route between China and Morotai via Manado in North Sulawesi.

    Realization of the plan, however, would depends on the completion of project to modernize the Leo Wattimena airport of Morotai, Burhan said here on Tuesday.

    He said the runway of the airport already meets the conditions to serve international flights but it needs renovation in its passenger terminal.

    He said as one of ten main tourist destinations, modernization of the the airport would be given a priority with fund from the state budget.

    Head of the North Maluku Tourism and Cultural Service Anwar Husen said the opening the international flight route would bring more foreign tourists to the Pacific rim island.

    Not many foreign tourists are interested to visit Morotia on problem in air transport, Anawar said.

    Even domestic tourists from the western part of the country could visit Morotai only via Manado and Ternate.

    Apart from its historical background as former main military base of the Allied Force, Ternate has wide sparkling sand beach and under sea panoramic scene attracting many surfers to that location.

    Citilink is set to add more flights in Holy Month Ramadan. “There will be at least 9 extra flights,” said Commerce Director of PT Citilink Indonesia, Hans Nugroho, on Thursday.

    Hans said that the flights will operate 7 days before and after Eid. The extra flights will cover routes to Padang, Yogyakarta, Medan, and Denpasar. “We will see if other routes are necessary,” he said.

    Finance Director of Citilink Indonesia, Mega Satria, said that the airline adds flights only on the existing routes. “It the routes are potential, we will add more routes,” she said.

    Morever, Hans added that a surge of passengers is a certain thing on Eid holiday, Therefore, extra flights is a bid to anticipate it. He underlined that tcket reservation has started to increase in number.
