Citroen C3 CNG Introduced With 28 km/kg Mileage

Citroen India has made its foray into the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicle market with the introduction of the C3 hatchback. Customers will have the opportunity to equip this model with a retrofitted CNG kit through the company’s certified retrofit program, accessible via the brand’s dealerships. This additional feature will cost consumers Rs 93,000, taking the total price of the vehicle to Rs 7.16 lakh. This initiative is aimed at customers seeking more economical operational costs and a decrease in emissions.

    The C3’s CNG Capabilities

Citroen India asserts that the C3’s 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine is specifically designed to harness the potential of factory-tested CNG. The hatchback promises a mileage of up to 28.1 km/kg and boasts an operational cost of just Rs 2.66 per km. The CNG option is available with the Live, Feel, Feel(O), and Shine variants of the hatchback. To provide additional incentive for customers, Citroen is also offering a comprehensive warranty for the vehicle and CNG components, covering a period of three years or 100,000 km.

    Design and Comfort Considerations

According to Citroen, the integration of the CNG system does not compromise on the boot space and maintains easy access to the spare wheel. The design of the CNG nozzle allows it to fit within the petrol filler port, providing hassle-free refuelling. In a bid to ensure ride quality is not compromised with the addition of the CNG kit, the company has made several modifications including revamped rear shock absorbers, reinforced suspension springs, and an added anti-roll bar.

Kumar Priyesh, the Business Head and Director of Automotive Brands at Stellantis India, which oversees Citroen India, expressed his delight at the launch. He emphasized the company’s commitment to delivering accessible, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible mobility solutions with the introduction of the CNG retrofitment option for the Citroën C3.

Priyesh also noted the company’s pride in providing solutions in line with India’s evolving fuel ecosystem and environmental goals, especially as CNG infrastructure is expected to grow significantly across the country, with an anticipated network of over 7,400 stations by FY2025.

  • Stellantis To Push Into Challenging Indian Market With Citroen

Stellantis To Push Into Challenging Indian Market With Citroen

Carmaker Stellantis plans to launch a new model in India and Latin America next year under its Citroen brand, the group said on Thursday, as it aims to push out of its European turf and branch further into emerging markets where it has less exposure.

The plan marks Citroen’s return to India, a market it left in the 1930s, and comes at a time when some other foreign carmakers are leaving the country after struggling to make a profit.

Stellantis, which was formed earlier this year by the merger between Fiat Chrysler and Peugeot-maker PSA, has brands like Jeep and Ram in the United States, but is still aiming to reduce its reliance on Europe.

The company said it plans to produce a new version of the Citroen C3, positioned as a city car in Europe, in India and Latin America for launch in the second half of 2022.

Citroen said it would be the first of three models which it will produce and aim at India and Latin America over the next three years.

Stellantis has said it expects India to become the world’s third-biggest car market after China and the United States by 2030 with total new cars in the country reaching 4-5 million cars a year.

Still, the country has proved challenging for many foreign carmakers, which compete with local manufacturers such as Maruti Suzuki there as well as South Korea’s Hyundai. Ford last week said it was stopping production in India.

Stellantis aims to grow sales outside Europe to 30% of its revenue by the middle of this decade, compared to 15% now.

The next model which most likely will hit our market by the end of 2021 or early next year will be the C3 Aircross which is a smaller subcompact SUV, taking on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Hyundai Venue among others. Then, the Citroen Berlingo MPV was also spotted testing in India last month, and if on its arrival, it will enter a segment where Renault had launched the Lodgy five years ago. However, we don’t have any final word from the company on its launch yet.

Roland Bouchara, Vice President – Sales & Marketing, Citroen India, “We have a clear intention which not many manufacturers had when they entered the country. We have created an ecosystem in India. We have engineering, R&D facilities already here and we are already manufacturing the diesel engine at the Hosur plant. We are looking at localization levels of 90 percent -100 percent in our cars for India.”

The company has also confirmed that all upcoming models will be underpinned by the C-Cubed platform and will have both petrol and diesel engine options. • Peugeot ups Chinese petrol engine shipments amid diesel slump

Peugeot ups Chinese petrol engine shipments amid diesel slump

French carmaker PSA Group is increasing shipments of Chinese-made gasoline engines to Europe as it adapts to a consumer shift away from diesel, Les Echos reported on Monday.

The maker of Peugeot and Citroen cars now expects to source 100,000 gasoline engines from Chinese plants, an increase on the 55,000 it had previously planned to import in 2017-18, the French financial daily said.

A PSA spokesman declined to comment.

Paris-based PSA had announced the import plans earlier this year to accommodate the shift in demand while it converts some domestic engine production capacity from diesel to gasoline.
