Zoomlion using Cloudera to boost big data platform

Chinese construction machinery and sanitation equipment manufacturer Zoomlion has adopted machine learning and analytics company Cloudera’s platform to serve its growing big data demands.

Zoomlion will use Cloudera Enterprise to offer data management and analytics services to customers in over 100 countries across six continents.

Zoomlion’s big data platform collects and processes a wide variety of data from three main sources, including internet of things data including real-time working conditions and location information of more than 120,000 high-tech, industrial and agricultural machines.

The platform also collects internal core business system data from enterprise resource planning, customer relationship management and financial systems, as well as data collected from external sources including official websites, social media channels and data purchased and exchanged with third parties.

The platform is able to continuously analyze equipment operations, detect potential failures, provide fault warnings, and generate operational statistics whilst creating new revenue streams and enhancement capabilities.

In addition, Zoomlion uses the platform to help customers to optimize their own operational management capabilities, reducing operating cost and improving efficiency of equipment management.

“We chose Cloudera to upgrade our data and analytics infrastructure and enhance our competitiveness. Cloudera’s modern platform helps us manage and analyze data more effectively, enabling us to drive down costs and improve asset performance,” Zoomlion Heavy Industry Science and Technology big data department director Zhou Zhi Zhong said.

“We are empowered to create more value for our customers, innovate with new products and services and create new revenue streams for our business.”

CenturyLink launches ‘integrated big data’ for global firms

CenturyLink has launched CenturyLink Big Data as a Service (BDaaS) with Managed Cloudera, a new managed service offering.

The company said the new offering combines CenturyLink’s expertise in data and advanced analytics, network, cloud and application services with the highly secure Apache Hadoop-based data management and analytics platform from Cloudera.

This managed service delivers data integration and analytics consulting to help customers deliver use cases for increasing sales, streamlining operations, improving customer engagement and gaining competitive advantage.

Many organizations lack the in-house resources, expertise and strategy needed to successfully leverage their big data, especially as the Internet of Things (IoT) places more demands on their IT infrastructure.

CenturyLink BDaaS, led by specialized consulting from the company’s team of big data experts, delivers a comprehensive managed service backed by infrastructure that can handle data-intensive workloads, including surges. This enables rapid analysis of large and complex data sets, the company said.

CenturyLink BDaaS is enhanced by adding data and advanced analytics consulting services supported by a deep bench of Cloudera-certified data scientists and Cloudera Hadoop solution administrators, developers and architects. The solution, bolstered by CenturyLink’s global high-speed network connectivity, provides storage, processing, and management components deployed on CenturyLink Cloud Bare Metal servers.

As a preferred Cloudera partner, this new BDaaS solution on Cloudera Enterprise furthers CenturyLink’s commitment to its recently expanded strategic alliance with Cloudera.

Cloudera, CenturyLink offer Big Data as a Service

Cloudera has expanded its partnership with CenturyLink to deliver big data as a service to enable customers gain value from all their data.

As part of being a preferred partner, CenturyLink’s Global IT Services is delivering a fully managed big data solution powered by Cloudera Enterprise.

This combined big data offering will exponentially speed time to deploy Cloudera Enterprise and also simplify some of the management complexities from Hadoop operations, so that customers can spend more time working with data and generating new insights that drive business growth.

“In addition to offering a platform for big data management and analytics in the cloud, we are also focused on delivering value-added use cases that run on this platform and help our customers become more agile and responsive,” said Gary Gauba, president of CenturyLink Cognilytics.

By leveraging Cloudera Enterprise, CenturyLink will gain a more complete view of its customers across all its systems, products, and diverse interaction channels. This entails integrating all existing data sources and ingesting real-time data.

CenturyLink will use the Cloudera platform to perform advanced analytics in the areas of SDN as well as network virtualization to proactively monitor and further optimize its global communications network.

Tom Reilly, CEO of Cloudera, said CenturyLink’s big data-as-a-service offerings will make concepts like advanced analytics, machine learning, and real-time data more available and accessible to more people.

CenturyLink’s big data-as-a-service solutions are under development and expected to be generally available later this year. Cloudera managed services by CenturyLink are now generally available.

Airtel adopts BI platform from Cloudera

India’s Bharti Airtel has adopted Cloudera Enterprise as part of efforts to build a 360-degree view of its customers in India.

The deployment aims to help the operator better leverage customer data to execute successful omni-channel campaigns and influence buyers in India’s highly competitive market.

Airtel’s product offerings in India include wireless and fixed services, mobile commerce, high speed DSL broadband, IPTV, DTH, and national and international long distance services to carriers.

With over 265 million customers across its India operations, Airtel needs to make sense of and leverage the huge volumes of customer and network data it collects on a daily basis from its multiple channels, which was previously stored in multiple traditional systems built over a period of time.

With Cloudera Enterprise now at the core of Airtel’s information architecture, the massive volumes of data are in a centralized location, and available to all business users and groups.

“As part of our digital journey at Airtel, our main focus is on providing the best customer experience with our new business intelligence (BI) and analytics platform, powered by Cloudera,” Airtel group CEIO Harmeen Mehta said.

“Now, we are able to gain an even greater technical edge, empowering our marketers with intelligent data and analytics to make better decisions and improve the entire customer lifecycle with customized offerings.”

  • 9 in 10 telcos go Hadoop to fight revenue fraud

9 in 10 telcos go Hadoop to fight revenue fraud

Telecoms revenue fraud is a primary driver for increased Apache Hadoop adoption, according to a recent poll of telco and enterprise users by Cloudera and Argyle Data.

Communication service providers lose around $38 billion to fraud every year.

Conducted during a recent webinar to introduce Cloudera and Argyle Data’s joint fraud prevention platform, the survey indicated that over 90% of attending organizations already use or intend to use Hadoop for fraud prevention.

About one-third (34%) of attendees said they already have Hadoop in place and may use the platform in their fraud prevention efforts.

“Fraud prevention is a textbook use case for Hadoop-based analytics because the ROI is immediately visible,” said Vijay Raja, solutions marketing manager at Cloudera. “Real-time machine learning relies on large amounts of data to detect sophisticated revenue threats, making Cloudera the ideal platform on which to run Argyle Data’s threat analytics.”

The platform enables mobile operators to reduce loss by detecting previously undiscoverable revenue threats, promising to deliver up to 350% improvement over rules-based offerings. The platform uses a native Hadoop architecture, combined with real-time data ingestion, analytics, and machine learning.

“Unsupervised machine learning delivers everything telco fraud analysts need to be efficient at and deliver immediate ROI,” said Arshak Navruzyan, vice president of product management at Argyle Data.  “The Cloudera-Argyle Data solution interoperates seamlessly with all participants in the Hadoop cluster.
