  • Meta brings Community Chats to Messenger and Facebook Groups

Meta brings Community Chats to Messenger and Facebook Groups

Meta has just announced it will launch a new feature in Facebook and Messenger, which will allow users to start group chats directly in these apps. Called Community Chats, the new feature will first be tested in Messenger and will expand to more Facebook Groups in the coming weeks.

The ability to start Community Chats in Messenger should allows users to create a Facebook Group, start chats and audio channels, as well as invite other people to join their group all within the app. The new experience is a mix between Messenger and Facebook Groups, but it doesn’t seem to replace either, at least for the time being.

There will be multiple options to start a chat for group members, like a specific topic, an event chat, a view-only broadcast chat for announcements, or admin-only chat that will keep the discussions between admins and moderators private.

In addition, admins will be able to create audio channels to allow group members to share live commentary or receive real-time support. Members of a chat group will also have the option to enable video once they’re in the audio channel.

According to Meta, the new Community Chats feature will be released alongside a solid suite of tools meant to help admins manage both chat and audio experiences much easier. Among these tools, Meta confirmed the suite will include moderation capabilities such as blocking, muting or suspending group members, and removing members or messages, as well as Admin Assist.

Admin Assist seems to be one of more useful tools since it allows admins to set custom filters to automatically suspend users, remove reported messages, and stop message from ineligible authors or containing violating content from being send.

Finally, all members of Community Chats will be able to report messages to group admins or directly to Meta, block users, as well as leave a chat at any time. As mentioned earlier, Community Chats are now being tested in Messenger, but they will be rolled out to Facebook Groups in the coming weeks too.

  • Spotify working on a Community page that shows what your friends are listening to in real-time

Spotify working on a Community page that shows what your friends are listening to in real-time

Spotify has been steadily evolving in the past few months, from testing more podcast features to aiming to conquer the audiobook market. It appears the music-streaming platform has another area in which it sees more possibilities for growth – the social aspect. Spotify is working on adding a new Community tab, which will allow you to check out what your Facebook friends are listening to.
Then, what is this feature all about (at least for now)? The Community page looks similar to the Friend Activity sidebar in the desktop version of Spotify. The page lets you keep track of what your friends are listening to in real-time.Well, it basically pulls the list of songs from your friends’ Facebook accounts – if these are connected to the app.

You can get a preview of the tab if you have an iPhone: open Safari, go to “spotify:community” via the address bar, and then tap the button to open the Spotify app. This shortcut doesn’t work on Chrome on Android so far, so only iPhone users can get a glimpse of the new page for now (it is still unfinished by the way, as it is in early development).

Given the fact that this feature is still in early development, it is unknown how much time it will take for Spotify to refine it and release it as a part of an official update. So, it might take a while before you’ll be able to check out your friends’ music preferences from the app.

  • E-Commerce to Be More And More About Community.

E-Commerce to Be More And More About Community.

People tend to be very loyal to their favourite brands and this is a luxury online few brands can afford thanks to their greate client services and details that make their customers feel unique. Nowadays, reaching customers and addressing tailored messages can be even easier thanks to the social media and, as an e-commerce business owner, you will need to customize your communication as much as possible to create a community around your brand.

Before doing so, however, you will first need a store and a brand to build around. The good news is that this is now far easier than ever.

Creating an e-shop never been that easy

In the past, building a website was a highly technical affair as knowledge and experience in computer coding was necessary. This meant that owning a website was out of reach for many people that had neither the skills to build one, or the budget to pay costly website builders.

This has all changed, however, with online store builders such as Shopify.  These solutions are designed to make it as easy as possible for anybody to use. You can choose from a variety of themes to get you started, while they also have drag and drop features that allow you to place what you want, where you want it, with ease.

It’s not just that you can now build an e-commerce site easily, but platforms also come with an array of useful features that help you to get the most from your online store.

Here’s a look at some of the features that will help to make your site a success.

    • Affordable Pricing: A basic Shopify package will cost you just $29USD/month. This package will have all that first-time store owners need, while more advanced packages are available for owners of stores that are busy and need more advanced features.
    • Customer Profiles: E-commerce builders can be integrated with apps that allow you to track your customers’ shopping habits. This will provide valuable information that enables you to offer the right products at the right times, generating brand allegiance and additional revenue.
    • Social Media Integration: With so many people using social media apps like Facebook, it makes sense to integrate your store with these platforms to tend to what we call social commerce. This will give you access to a greater market, as well as additional features that can help improve customer satisfaction and your bottom line.
    • Dropshipping: Buying stock is one of the most expensive and riskiest aspects of starting a business, but e-commerce site builders help to do away with that risk. E-commerce dropshipping apps mean that products are shipped directly from the supplier, meaning you don’t have to pay a penny for the products before you make a sale. It also overcomes headaches involving storage and other logistical issues.

With such an easy to use and intuitive system, it is easy for people even without technical skills to build an e-commerce store that competes with the best in terms of appearance and functionality.

    Turn your customers into ambassadors

The next task is to attract customers and build up your brand, and there is no better way to do this than to build a community surrounding it. Word of mouth is the best tool to sell your products and your ability to build a positive feeling about your brand and your products will be an asset to take over your competitors. Question is, how to develop a community?

    Content Marketing

Content marketing is a method of growing your brand and generating further revenue without actually pitching for sales, mainly by creating high value pieces of content to build your audience and community, which can be achieved by releasing surveys and articles that will tackle all the questions your prospects have about your products.

It can be incredibly effective when done right, helping to generate loyal brand devotees rather than one-time customers. One of the best examples of this is GoPro. The brand uses the videos filmed by their own users to build its community, by uploading them on its own platform. While there are many ways to use content marketing to build a community, help your customers and creating a positive image are two important strategies to set-up.

    Key Opinion Leaders

When people in a position of trust, respect, or authority say something, others tend to list. Imagine having Beyoncé say that she bought an accessory from your fashion e-commerce store. The only problem you will have there is being able to keep up with the orders that flood in.

This might be an unlikely example, but if you can, you should do what you can to get your products mentioned and establishing partnerships through influencer agencies or directly by outreaching them on Instagram is an essential part of a proper marketing campaign.

    Create Events

E-commerce sites may do their business in the virtual world, but that does not mean to say they should not be noticed in the real world as well.

One great way to get yourself noticed away from the world-wide-web is to create events for others to get involved in. Here, you can have people interact with your products as well as with you and any team members you may have. If you can’t create events yourself, then look for other events that your business may be able to take part in and contribute to.

    Story Telling

Story telling is a fantastic opportunity to help your potential customers really relate with your brand. The right story can push the right buttons and even help your audience form an emotional attachment to your brand. When creating your story, you should make sure that you understand your audience well and know what makes them tick. Appeal to their desires, their needs, and their problems and demonstrate how your products are just what they need. Even if it does not make a sale immediately, the right story could still have you well on your way to acquiring loyal followers of your brand.

Building an e-commerce store is the easy part, the harder part is attracting customers and keeping them. Building a community around your brand is one way to achieve this.

  • Lily builds new life for youth in Thailand

Lily builds new life for youth in Thailand

Helping young people who are living in disadvantaged communities has always been a passion for Lily Simpson and her late husband John.

The former Ipswich residents spent many years working with people who have disabilities and assisted them to achieve independent life skills.

After numerous trips to Thailand, the pair realised there were many children who needed help, which prompted them to form their own charity.

“We had been travelling to Thailand volunteering with disadvantaged children in various orphanages for many years,” Mrs Simpson said. “During these visits we noticed that there were many youth and young adults in the most disadvantaged and at risk categories who were not receiving training and assistance in the life skills necessary to survive and thrive.

“God placed it on our hearts to reach out to these people and ask them to work together with us to improve their future.”

The pair moved to Thailand in 2012 and in that time co-founded the Chii wi mai, which means “new life” in Thai.

“It is the aim of the service to provide an individualised approach in assisting youth and young adults to access the vocational and learning opportunities of their choice to achieve their dreams and goals,” Mrs Simpson said.

“In 2013 Chii wi mai received registration and we officially commenced our ministry.”

One of the young people who has benefited from Lily and John’s generosity is a young Thai boy named Sanya.

“Sanya has studied hard and overcome many challenges in his life to achieve his goal,” she said.

“He was born HIV positive, both of his parents passed away, he is blind in one eye from a virus he got when he was three years old and lived in an orphanage until he was 16.

“He has a grandmother whom he loves dearly, and she makes a living selling flowers at the market in another town.”

With their help, Sanya recently graduated with a Diploma in Retail Management and plans to study for the next two years.

Mrs Simpson got up at 4am and caught a plane to Khon Kaen so she could be present at his graduation ceremony.

“Sanya had a dream and he is well on his way to achieving it and I am so glad Chii wit mai is part of his life,” she said.

“John was so proud of Sanya, but last July he passed away unexpectedly. He was missed by all of us.”

Mrs Simpson also had help in providing a better future for Sanya, thanks to the Kiwanis Club of Brisbane.

“Without their financial support for the last eight years, Sanya may not have been able to continue with his education,” she said.

“Sanya and I are very grateful and Sanya has written a letter to thank Kiwanis for all they have done for him.”

Garuda Indonesia to Cooperate with Malaysian Golf Community

National Carrier Garuda Indonesia’s Kuala Lumpur branch will be cooperating with Malaysian golf community to facilitate local golf players who wish to play in Indonesia.

“We will come up with a package scheme that merges the prices of golf activities and flight tickets, which will then be disseminated by the community,” Garuda Indonesia’s Malaysian General Manager Supriyono said in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.

He made the statement immediately after a meeting with Steven Leow, Chief Executive Officer of PT Leo Golf Sukses Wisata Group, which is a Leisure Golf Service company in the Garuda Indonesia Malaysia offices, located in the Intermark Mall.

“The scheme is aimed to fill morning flight slots from Malaysia to Indonesia. They will be able to immediately head to the golf court and play, as it would still be early in the day. The average length of stay is about three days, and they would board the afternoon return flight. It would be an effective scheme for golf players,” he remarked.

Garuda also offered to be the community’s sponsor partner, should they wish to organize an event or activity, he stated. “There are approximately 500 members in the community, and there could be 10 to 15 golfers who fly to Indonesia per day. Hence the demand is quite high,” he noted.

As for their destination cities, Supriyono said that would vary. “But if they go to Jakarta, they even have an office in the Gunung Sahari area,” he added.

He further explained that Malaysian golfers are keen on trying new places when it comes to golf courts in Indonesia. “Hence, we will also be working with the golf liaison to expand the ‘in’ and ‘out’ of the traffic,” he stated.

Garuda Indonesia has three flights from Kuala Lumpur to Jakarta, including those at 8:40 am, 12:50 pm, and 7 pm. Meanwhile, Garuda Indonesia also provides three flights from Jakarta to Kuala Lumpur, including 8:35 am, 2 pm, and 4:50 pm.

  • China’s Alibaba seeks sporting gold

    China’s Alibaba seeks sporting gold

Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba is looking to turn its hundreds of millions of users into sportsmen as it seeks to cash in on the country’s growing sporting market, an executive said.

The comments by Zhang Dazhong, chief executive of its Alisports unit, come as Chinese football clubs rank second only to English in spending during the winter transfer window and President Xi Jinping harbours dreams of winning a World Cup, and with the country set to host the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Alibaba, which owns a 37 per cent stake in Asian football champions Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao, launched Alisports in September to develop the sporting economy in “an innovative way with digital thinking”, according to its website.

“Alibaba would like to convert their nearly 500 million people or users into sportsmen and to utilise its strengths to help them,” Zhang told Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post newspaper.

“Consumption power in China is huge and gigantic — the consumption of sport is about to burst in China,” he said.

Alibaba in December agreed to buy the English-language newspaper in Hong Kong for USD 266 million.

In the months since its establishment, Alisports has signed deals to stream NFL American football games in China, sponsor FIFA’s Club World Cup, and partnerships with both world amateur boxing body AIBA and the governing organisation for basketball FIBA.

Zhang also met with football agent Jorge Mendes and his client, former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, in Shanghai last month to discuss partnerships, the SCMP said.

    adidas-Women_running

The Chinese government said in 2014 that it aimed to grow the country’s sports market to more than five trillion yuan (USD 760 billion) by 2025 to become “a vital driver for sustainable economic and social development”.

Many Chinese companies are seeking to ride the wave, with high-profile deals including property behemoth Wanda’s acquisition of Swiss sports marketing group Infront and a share of Spanish football club Atletico Madrid, as well a consortium led by state-backed China Media Capital buying a USD 400 million stake in Premier League giants Manchester City.

But Zhang told the SCMP that Alisports would prefer to sponsor a big league as a whole: “It’s not our direction to buy a club or team, but to create a platform for clubs and teams.”

Alibaba’s sports drive can help modernise the industry in China and fulfil Xi’s hopes for the country to qualify for a World Cup, host one and win one, he added.

“I believe the World Cup will definitely come to China sooner or later. With the emergence of Alisport (that) dream… will come even earlier,” the paper quoted him as saying.
