  • 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe Breaks Cover

2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe Breaks Cover

Mercedes-Benz has revealed the 2021 GLE Coupe and the car will be built in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The new GLE Coupe is longer, wider and has grown in terms of wheelbase too. The new GLE Coupe is 4939 mm long and 2010 mm wide (39 mm longer and 7 mm wider than its predecessor). The wheelbase has grown by 20 mm compared with the predecessor but remains 60 mm shorter than that of the GLE. The front sees the diamond radiator grille is replaced with the single horizontal louver. The openings in the louver, high-gloss chrome-plated underguard in the front apron all bring out a premium image. With the AMG Line the grille widens downwards in an A shape, and the pins in the diamond radiator grille are portrayed in chrome. The flatter-angled windscreen makes the car look more dynamic and the rear-sloping roofline makes it look elegant.

Move to the rear of the new Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe and you can see that beneath the C-pillar there’s a broad muscle which protrudes from the surface of the vehicle side, starting in the rear side door and encompassing the rear lamps. The tail lamps are slim and elongated and look good too.

The cabin is similar to other premium SUV models from the company’s line-up. The cockpit sees two 12.3-inch screens, one forms the instrument panel while the other acts as the infotainment system. the strikingly shaped instrument panel, horizontally divided by a trim element tier, and seamlessly flowing into the door trim, appear familiar. The upper surface is covered in Artico man-made leather upholstery as standard in the GLE Coupe. The 2021 GLE Coupe gets 655 liters of boot space which can be increased to 1790 liters with the rear seats down.

Under the hood of the GLE Coupe 350d is a OM 656, 6 cylinder engine which churns out 268 bhp and 600 Nm of torque. There’s also a 400d 4Matic which puts out 326 bhp and 700 Nm. Because all variants of the new GLE Coupe; have a transfer case with an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch as standard behind the 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission. This allows a variable transfer of drive torque from 0-100 percent between the axles. During cornering it can influence the yaw torque in a targeted manner towards over- and understeering of the vehicle and together with the shorter wheelbase it increases the agility of the new GLE Coupe. The AMG gets a 3-liter six-cylinder engine putting out 425 bhp and it comes with 48-volt technology, fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive, AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9-speed automatic transmission.

As standard, the new GLE Coupe is given the steel suspension chassis with sportier and tauter tuning. Compared with the preceding generation it benefits from firmer attachment points and improved geometry and offers even more precise wheel location and better shielding from vibrations caused by unevenness in the road surface. The enhanced air suspension system AIRMATIC is available with sporty tuning as an option. Its adaptive adjustable damping uses highly complex sensor systems and algorithms to adapt the damping characteristics to the road condition and the driving situation in real-time. Irrespective of the load the air suspension also keeps the vehicle at the same level and can also adjust the ground clearance – automatically or at the press of a button depending on the driving speed and situation.

  • BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe Teased Getting Ready for June

BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe Teased Getting Ready for June

We’ve gone gaga over the 8 Series Coupe when BMW first teased it. It looks jaw-dropping gorgeous but it left us wondering if the new flagship will be limited to two-doors. Sooner rather than later, the spy pictures of the four-door Gran Coupe surfaced online and we just couldn’t wait to see the car. Finally, the Bavarian carmaker has teased the 8 Series Gran Coupe and has confirmed that the wraps will be pulled off this year in June in Munich.

BMW came up with a rather interesting strategy to reveal the 8 Series range. Two of the best looking models of the line-up- the two-door coupe and convertible were shown first and they just blew our mind. And finally the four-door Gran Coupe has followed. Though the teaser image reveals the side of the Gran Coupe which looks gracious and sumptuous, the front and rear are expected to be identical to its two-door counterpart. However, the wheelbase will be larger than the Coupe version, given that it will seat four. The sharp flowing character lines build upon the aesthetics and the rising shoulder line looks strong throughout its length. The low slung stance further keeps the sporty quotient intact.

BMW will launch the 8 Series Gran Coupe in September this year which is when we would get to know more about it including the engine line up. We expect it to share engines with the latest-generation 7 Series sedan. So the 3.0-liter, inline six-cylinder petrol, and diesel engines are expected under the hood.

  • Porsche Cayenne Coupe Unleached

    Porsche Cayenne Coupe Unleached

We’ve been anticipating it for a while now from Porsche and it’s finally here. The Porsche Cayenne has taken the Coupe route and the company has revealed the Cayenne Coupe. The highlights of the new Cayenne model include sharper lines with a unique rear section, an adaptive rear spoiler, a rear bench with the characteristics of two individual seats. The new model also offers two different roof concepts, which includes a panoramic fixed glass roof fitted as standard and an optional carbon roof.

The front windscreen and A-pillar are shallower than in the Cayenne, courtesy of a roof edge that has been lowered by around 20 millimetres. Redesigned rear doors and fenders broaden the shoulders of this vehicle by 18 millimetres, contributing to its overall muscular impression. The rear number plate is integrated into the bumper, making the vehicle seem closer to the ground. With its adaptive roof spoiler, the current Cayenne Turbo was the first SUV to feature this type of active aerodynamics. The new Cayenne Coupé picks up that ball and runs with it. On each Cayenne Coupé model, a roof spoiler is combined with a new adaptive rear spoiler as part of Porsche Active Aerodynamics (PAA). The spoiler – harmonically integrated into this model’s silhouette – extends by 135 mm at speeds of 90 kmph and up, increasing the contact pressure on the rear axle, while PAA simultaneously enhances efficiency.

The new Cayenne Coupé comes with a 2.16 m2 panoramic fixed glass roof as standard. A contoured carbon roof is optionally available for the Coupe. The centre seam gives the roof the characteristic look of a sports car, similar to the Porsche 911 GT3 ₹ The carbon roof is available in one of the three lightweight sports packages. These packages also include the Sport Design features and new, weight-reduced 22-inch GT Design wheels, seat centres in classic checked fabric, as well as carbon and Alcantara accents in the interior. For the Cayenne Turbo Coupe, the package also includes a sports exhaust system.

If you thought it’s pretty groovy looking on the outside, well, the inside is no different. At the front, the new eight-way sports seats with integrated headrests offer exceptional comfort and optimum lateral support. In the rear, the Coupé comes fitted as standard with a rear bench that has the characteristics of two individual seats. Alternatively, the comfort rear seats – a familiar feature of the Cayenne – can be ordered at no additional cost. Rear passengers sit 30 millimetres lower than in the Cayenne, meaning there is plenty of headroom despite the vehicle’s sporty lowered silhouette. The boot capacity is 625 litres – ideal for everyday use – and rises to 1,540 litres when the rear seats are folded down (Cayenne Turbo Coupé: 600 to 1,510 litres).

Under the hood of the Cayenne Coupe will be two high-performance engines. It will come with a 3-litre 6-cylinder turbocharged engine that delivers 335 bhp and maximum torque of 450 Nm. The Sport Chrono Package fitted in the car achieves the standard sprint from 0-100 kmph in 6 seconds, with this figure dropping to 5.9 seconds with the optional lightweight sports packages. The vehicle’s top speed is 243 kmph. The top-of-the-range Cayenne Turbo Coupe goes to the starting line with a 4 litre V8 engine with twin-turbo charging 542 bhp, and a maximum torque of 770 Nm. The Cayenne Turbo Coupe accelerates from a standing start to 100 kmph in 3.9 seconds, and has a top speed of 286 kmph.

The new Porsche Cayenne Coupe models are available for order now in the European markets. We have to wait to find out when India gets this model. We are sure that it will be very soon though.

  • Aggressive Thai pricing for 2017 BMW 430i Coupe and Convertible

Aggressive Thai pricing for 2017 BMW 430i Coupe and Convertible

Due to increased competition in the Thai premium mid-size coupe and convertible segments, BMW Thailand has given the facelifted 4 Series Coupe and Convertible aggressive pricing.

To be officially launched next week, the two 4 Series models come in 430i forms boasting 252hp 2.0-litre petrol-turbo engine. The 420i Coupe, for one, goes from 0-100kph in 5.8sec and is priced at 3.499 million baht in Luxury spec. The M Sport trim, mainly distinguished with sportier appointments and M-like steering wheel, asks for an additional 300k.

The 430i enjoys the same 30% excise tax (emitting no more than 150g/km of CO2) as the 420i, which uses a 190hp version of the same 2.0-litre block and is slower from 0-100kph by 1.7sec. Hence, the 420i isn’t available anymore.

Sales of the pre-facelift diesel-powered 420d have also been discontinued. Two possible reasons could be its higher production costs and Thai preference for petrol power in two-door sports cars.

    How does its competition fare?

The two most direct rivals in terms of performance are the Audi A5 Coupe 45 TFSI Quattro and Lexus RC200t F-Sport.

Although the A5 Coupe 45 TFSI boasts the same power and engine size of the 430i Coupe, it is slower from 0-100kph, at 6.3sec. The Audi’s price of 4.299 million baht is also way higher. Even the 190hp 40 TFSI is jaded by the 430i due to its price kicking out at 3.699 million baht.

The RC200t is in an even more crippling state. It has 245hp from a similar displacing petrol-turbo motor yet is slowest with 7.5sec time. Worse, it asks for 5.49 million baht.

The Mercedes-Benz C250 Coupe, meanwhile, comes with lesser 211hp 2.0-litre petrol-turbo unit and costs 3.24 million baht for Sport and 3.59 million baht for AMG Dynamic. This kind of means less performance (0-100kph in 6.8sec) for less money.

    What about the open-top 430i?

The only opponent for the 252hp 430i Convertible is the 245hp C300 Cabriolet. The 430i Convertible Luxury goes for 3.999 million baht and an extra 300k for M Sport. The C300 Cabriolet AMG Dynamic is priced at 4.24 million baht – 59k less than the spec-on-spec M Sport.

  • Audi to use Valeo’s stop-start technology in sports coupe

Audi to use Valeo’s stop-start technology in sports coupe

Luxury carmaker Audi will introduce Valeo’s micro-hybrid “stop-and-start” systems in its RS5 sports coupe, sources told Reuters, in a sign that the Paris-based supplier may be tapping new premium demand for the fuel-saving technology.

The contract with Volkswagen’s (VOWG_p.DE) upscale Audi division underlines increased spending by automakers on technology designed to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, in response to tightening standards and testing regimes.

Volkswagen and Valeo both declined to comment.

Unlike a typical alternator, which converts engine torque to electricity to power a vehicle’s circuitry and charge its battery, the starter-alternator can also re-start the engine in a fraction of a second.

The Valeo system delivers fuel savings of up to 15 percent by automatically shutting down the engine whenever a car is halted by a red light or traffic, with an in-step reduction of CO2 and pollution emissions in congested cities.

First introduced in 2004, the so-called “i-StARS” technology is a flagship product of Valeo’s 4 billion euro ($4.6 billion)propulsion systems division, with 3 million units sold.

But launch customer PSA Group (PEUP.PA) and other volume manufacturers have since dropped it from new models in favor of beefed-up starter motors, a cheaper though less efficient stop-and-start solution.

The i-StARS system is beginning to find new markets, however, Valeo boss Jacques Aschenbroich told Reuters. “Demand for it is continuing to grow significantly,” the CEO said, predicting double-digit percentage sales rise.

With the mild-hybrid RS5, which went on sale this month in Germany and in France next week, Audi becomes the first German premium brand to use the technology on its current vehicle lineup.

  • BMW 2 Series Coupe and Convertible updated for 2017

BMW 2 Series Coupe and Convertible updated for 2017

Baby sports car and open-top counterpart receive mid-life styling tweaks and optional all-wheel-drive in higher-end models. In the typical fashion of facelifted BMWs, changes in the new 2-series Coupe and Convertible are microscopic and would probably only be noticed by eagle-eyed enthusiasts.

The front end, for one, has changed the most with bigger kidney grilles, restyled air vents and bi-LED lights made standard. While the M Sport trim sees more aggressive-looking bumper design, the lesser Luxury and Sport Lines get more subtle air intakes.
Like in the recent facelift of the 4-series Coupe and Convertible, both 2-series models get more premium finish inside as well as a newly-designed instrument panel and central touchscreen.

As the 2-series has no direct rival from Audi, Lexus or Mercedes-Benz – three other premium brands that make compact hatchbacks with front-wheel-drive – BMW is still keen in touting the 2-series as a genuine sports car for driving fans.
However, the decision to offer xDrive all-wheel-drive in some potent models could be seen as an effort in broadening the appeal of the 2-series to another set of buyers wanting more driving security on slippery roads as well as more predictable manners under hard acceleration.

The M240i, for one, has 340hp 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six with eight-speed automatic transmission with optional xDrive system. Likewise, the other petrol and diesel engine variances remain unchanged all the way down to the 218i, featuring 136hp 1.5-litre three-pot turbo motor.

For the past few years, BMW has tried to lower the price point of the 2-series Coupe as much as possible by merely offering the 218i M Sport in Thai showrooms at 2.599 million baht apiece. However, it is claimed that that the 4-series Coupe is still the favoured choice among Thais. As the pre-facelift 420d Coupe M Sport went for 3.999 million baht, customers thought it might be just better to go for a bigger car with a four-cylinder engine. After all, luxury imports like these aren’t aimed at budget-minded punters.

The revised 2-series goes on sale in world markets from July, although the Thai BMW office would concentrate more on the facelifted 4-series later this year due to the aforementioned reasons.
