    CTG, Tata Communications form IoT alliance

    China Telecom Global has entered a collaboration with India-based Tata Communications to launch a global internet of things service for the Chinese market.

    Under the collaboration, the two companies will develop IoT-based services targeting multiple industries, including consumer and industrial electronics, manufacturing, automotive, transport, and logistics.

    China Telecom Global will gain access to the Tata Communications MOVE service, which seeks to leverage the company’s relationships with more than 600 mobile operators worldwide to enable global connectivity for new IoT-enabled devices.

    Meanwhile China Telecom Global will provide Tata with connectivity for Hong Kong, mainland China, and Macau as well as access to the Chinese operator’s 4G network resources.

    For specific vertical industries including automotive, China Telecom Global will also provide Tata with IoT solutions that are compliant with Chinese market requirements and regulatory requirements.

    “We want to grab our share of the rapidly growing Chinese IoT market. China Telecom Global is working closely with Tata Communications to pave the way for innovative and advanced IoT solutions across industries,” China Telecom Global CEO Deng Xiaofeng commented.

    “We’re able to offer our customers the borderless, reliable and affordable network connectivity they need for their different IoT devices. As the volume of connected ‘things’ continues to grow, we are able to give our customers complete visibility and control to make the management of hundreds of thousands of IoT devices easier on a global scale.”

    CTG, Global Switch, Daily-Tech open Singapore data center

    China Telecom Global, Chinese data center infrastructure developer and operator Daily-Tech and the UK-based Global Switch have jointly open a data center in Singapore’s Woodlands district as part of their three-way partnership.

    The S$280 million ($206.4 million) Global Switch Singapore Woodlands data center spans 25,000 square meters and has been constructed to operate to Tier III+ standards.

    The Singapore data center is the second to be built under the three-way partnership after the HK$5 billion data center in Tseung Kwan O that opened in December 2017.

    The Singapore Woodlands data center is designed to a power usage efficiency of just 1.34, making it the most power efficient data center available to customers in Singapore. The data center services are powered by 30MVA of utility power supply capacity and backed by a 24/7 networks operations center.

    The data center will connect to China Telecom Global’s network of subsea and terrestrial cables as well as other data centers around the world. It is Global Switch’s 12th data center globally.

    “This is a milestone entry into the Southeast Asian countries’ market for Daily-Tech through our strategic business partnership,” Daily-Tech chairman Li Qiang said.

    “Customers in the region – particularly those looking to expand through China’s Belt and Road projects, will now find more convenient connections and access to well-managed services to support their business growth. This partnership offers customers commitment, a track record in servicing and bespoke services, and best practice management.”

    CTG, Nepal Telecom to offer IP services in Nepal

    China Telecom Global has teamed up with Nepal’s largest operator Nepal Telecom to jointly offer IP services to the Nepalese market.

    The companies will use the newly-launched Jilong-Rasuwa Gateway terrestrial cable linking China and Nepal to provide services to Nepal as well as transit services from India.

    The new China-Nepal route offers a new direct alternative route for traffic generated from Nepal and can provide low-latency connectivity for end-users in the market. In addition, the system could help improve Nepal’s internet connection speeds away from the capital Kathmandu.

    “China Telecom is dedicated to expanding our footprint by connecting with neighbouring countries,” China Telecom Global EVP Ou Yan said.

    “China Telecom has put tremendous effort into building the route through the Himalayas. We are committed to delivering a state of the art route for Nepal Telecom.”

    Nepal Telecom and China Telecom Global completed a project to lay fiber to the Nepal-China border in the first half of the year, setting the stage for an interconnection to China Telecom’s network.

    China Telecom Global has been aggressively pursuing international expansion this year. The operator also recently selected a data center to serve as a new hub in East Africa, connecting to its subsea cable network including the SEA-ME-WE 5.
