Singtel and Zip, a leading global buy now, pay later (BNPL) player, announced an exclusive partnership to launch Zip’s pay later service in Singapore on the Dash app. This new service provides an alternate payment option for Dash customers, giving them the flexibility to choose between paying for their purchases immediately with Dash or paying later with Zip.Larry Diamond

Dash customers can use Zip’s pay later service for in-store or online purchases from merchants such as Klook, Omnidesk, OSIM and Singtel. Zip’s current payment scheme offers four interest-free installments across six weeks. Over the next six months, Zip will be rolling out more payment schemes and bringing onboard more than 2,000 merchants through partner agreements with AsiaPay, Razer Merchant Services and HitPay.

Gilbert Chuah, head of financial and lifestyle services at consumer Singapore, Singtel said, “Many of our customers want greater choice and control over managing their finances and our partnership with Zip provides just that with an alternative payment method that is transparent and flexible. This collaboration adds to Dash’s rapidly growing financial services business and we are working on expanding our suite of financial products and services to meet our customers’ diverse needs.”

According to FIS’ 2021 Global Payment Report, BNPL is projected to be the fastest-growing payment method for Singapore, with transaction volume expected to increase from US$210 million in 2020 to US$1.3 billion by 2024. A study commissioned by Zip also showed that 56% of e-commerce users in Singapore have used or will consider using a BNPL service.

Larry Diamond, CEO and co-founder of Zip said, “We are thrilled to be launching in Singapore through an exclusive partnership with Singtel Dash, one of the country’s most widely-used mobile apps for everyday financial and lifestyle needs. This partnership is consistent with Zip’s strategy to build a truly global BNPL business that supports regional and global partners operating in multiple markets. Our move into Singapore is an opportunity for us to tap into the country’s growing BNPL market and expand our presence in the Southeast Asian region following our strategic investment in BNPL provider TendoPay in the Philippines.”

Cult British water brand Dash heads Down Under

Dash, the UK drink brand, is making a foray into the Australian soft-drink market with the launch of its renowned ‘wonky fruit’ infused sparkling water.

Featuring just three ingredients – water, bubbles and wonky fruit – the drinks are sugar-free, zero-calorie and no sweetening is added. As part of the plan to reduce food waste, Dash uses fruits and vegetables that are wonky, bent, curved, knobbly, misshapen, and imperfect – but still delicious.

Created by Jack Scott and Alex Wright in 2017, the idea came from when the two founders – who have farming backgrounds – saw produce that didn’t meet “beauty standards” going to waste. Dash also says it is on a mission to create a ready-to-use and sustainable drink to encourage people to have a greener lifestyle.

This expansion of Dash marks the first time the company has produced locally outside the UK. The sparkling water is available at 700 Woolworths stores, and at 800 independent retailers across the country.

“We noticed that the Australian market is backing the seltzer category in a similar way to the US and UK,” said Jack Scott, co-founder of Dash Water. “Many independent retailers, and Australian supermarkets, are focused on sustainable practices that align with our values as a B-Corporation. We wanted to bring a fresh perspective to the market by continuing to infuse local spring water with delicious wonky fruit, just as we do in the UK. Expanding Dash in Australia gives us the opportunity to expand the business and enter into new and exciting markets.”

With the slogan “Dash judges on taste, not looks”, the water range can be found in different flavors – raspberry, lemon and cucumber – with an RRP of $8 for a box of four 300ml cans.

Wirecard, the global innovation leader in digital financial technology, has deepened its partnership with Singtel’s Dash to support the Dash mobile wallet’s Visa Virtual Account on Apple Pay. From now on, Dash’s customers can make payments using Apple Pay at millions of participating on- and offline merchants worldwide.

Brigitte Haeuser-Axtner, Executive Vice President, Sales Asia, Digital & Telecommunications at Wirecard said, “As leaders in digital financial technology, we are proud to work with Singtel to bring Dash to an even larger group of potential customers, and to connect consumers with merchants around the globe. Asia continues to be the leader of the digital payments revolution worldwide, and we are excited to be at the forefront of these innovations.”

“With the increasing popularity of mobile and online payments, Dash enables easy, secure and seamless payment options between our partner merchants and our more than half a million Dash customers on the platform of their choice,” said Gilbert Chuah, Head of mCommerce at Singtel. “Our expanded partnership with Wirecard to bring Dash to Apple Pay reflects our commitment to enhance the digital payment experience for both merchants and customers.”

Singtel Dash is Singapore’s only all-in-one digital wallet which provides a safe and secure mobile payments solution for shopping, commuting, and remitting money. Dash’s Visa Virtual Account is the first of its kind in Singapore and was introduced in 2017.

The inclusion of Dash into Apple Pay complements the increasing popularity of online shopping in Singapore. Wirecard’s 2018 International Holiday Shopping Report found that 67% of Singaporeans surveyed prefer shopping online, either via desktop or mobile, while 20% prefer shopping in-store. The ability to use mobile payments in-store is also a welcome innovation with 51% of respondents saying it would improve their shopping experience.

  • Singtel enhances Dash mobile wallet

    Singtel enhances Dash mobile wallet

Singtel has added new functionality to its mobile wallet app Singtel Dash in a bid to claim a larger slice of the mobile payments pie.

Singtel Dash was first launched in 2014 as a collaboration between Singtel and Standard Chartered Bank in Singapore. The carrier-agnostic service is open to all users in Singapore with an iOS or Android mobile device.

New features added to Singtel Dash include the addition of savings accounts from five additional banks (Citibank, DBS, OCBC, POSB and UOB) as Dash wallet funding sources. Previously, Dash wallets could only be funded via a Standard Chartered Bank savings account or through post-paid Singtel users’ carrier bills. This is a move aimed at expanding Dash’s existing user base.

The telco has also added a foreign remittance service to Dash so funds from users’ Dash wallets can be remitted to four countries: China, India, Indonesia and the Philippines. This function enables Dash users in Singapore to transfer funds to payees in these countries holding accounts from supported banks.

This function was made possible through Singtel’s collaboration with remittance partners in the four countries, and may be viewed as an extension of Singtel’s current mRemit service.

Dash users can also transfer funds to users of GCash in the Philippines. GCash is the mobile wallet product offered by the Philippines’ Globe Telecom, of which Singtel owns a controlling stake. Foreign remittance payees will be able to receive funds immediately.

Singtel has meanwhile upgraded its backend system to better support the use of Dash for taxi ride payments. Previously, customers needed to enter a taxi’s license number in order to complete a payment transaction. A new cloud-based solution developed by Singtel has now automated this process.
