David Beckham launches eyewear line with Safilo

Football legend David Beckham has launched his own eyewear collection, Eyewear by David Beckham, in partnership with Safilo Group.

Made in Italy, the collection features both optical frames and sunglasses with clean, modern silhouettes and a focus on “timeless” frame styles. His collection has been described by critics as “contemporary with traditional craftsmanship.”

Last year, Safilo Group and David Beckham signed a global 10-year agreement to license for sunglasses and prescription glasses.

“Safilo has a long history of creating high-quality eyewear brands. I wear sunglasses all the time and this is a category that I love,” said Beckham. “So, it’s important to me to work with a partner who cares as much about the design and craftsmanship of the product as I do.”

Eyewear by David Beckham’s Spring/Summer 2020 Collection will be available to buy at selected retailers from March.

David Beckham Receives A 6 Month Driving Ban For Using Mobile Phone Behind The Wheel

English footballer David Beckham has been handed a six-month driving ban for using his mobile when he was behind the wheel. The former England captain pleaded guilty to the charge after he was photographed by a member of the public holding a phone as he drove his Bentley in “slow moving” traffic in London on November 21, last year. Beckham was at Bromley Magistrates Court, south of London earlier this week, where he was given the six-month ban, fined 750 Pounds, and was ordered to pay 100 Pounds to prosecution costs and a 75 Pound surcharge fee within seven days.

The 44-year-old already has six points on his license from his previous offenses for speeding and now gets six more. Beckham pleaded guilty to the charge and said there is no excuse for what happened. However, the former Manchester United player also said that he had “no recollection of the particular incident.”

While the district court Judge Catherine Moore said she acknowledged the slow pace of the traffic, she did also say that there was “no excuse” under the law. Prosecutor Matthew Spratt said: “Instead of looking straight forward, paying attention to the road he appeared to be looking at his lap.” Beckham’s lawyer Gerrard Tyrrell further stated that the footballer found driving relaxing. He said, “He takes his children to school each day and picks them up when he can. To deprive him of that is something he will acknowledge.”

The short but important ban on David Beckham reiterates why need to avoid using our phones behind the wheel. The incident should serve as an example to drivers across the globe that safety can’t be ignored even if it is in slow moving traffic.

David Beckham shares Story of his life with Biotherm & L’Oreal

On 9 November, two days before the ‘Chinese Double 11’ or ‘Singles’ Day’ shopping holiday, Biotherm Homme invited David Beckham to Shanghai to launch the brand’s #StoryOfMyLife campaign in tandem with the New Force Supreme Life Essence; a ‘revolution in men’s skincare, which responds to the multiple needs of men’s aging skin’.

The L’Oréal Travel Retail Asia Pacific Biotherm team invited two Duty Free retailers, Sunrise Duty Free represented by Mrs Wiling Yang, and Korea’s Lotte Duty Free, represented by Mr Jeffrey Davis to attend the event.

Journalists and ‘influencers’ were also invited to the Waterhouse hotel in Shanghai to create and share their experiences with the L’Oréal-owned men’s skincare brand.

“Continuing a shared heritage of disruption in men’s grooming, the #StoryOfMyLife campaign film, starring Beckham, turns skincare into a life celebration, powering the message: ‘The story of my life is written on my skin. But don’t expect to read it on my face’,” says L’Oréal.

The event was linked with the new ‘Force Supreme Life Essence’ from Biotherm Homme which is said to offer ‘every active and successful man a daily solution not to show the signs of time on their face’.

Joining the campaign’s leading man, who revealed some of his skincare and life stories on-stage, guests shared theirs inside a private animation box.

In a celebration of the campaign’s ink element, a Tattoo Bar invited them to interpret a life-altering experience in ink, having sneakers, iPhone cases, or even skin temporarily, customized on the spot by four leading artists in China.

“We’re bringing the height of skincare tech together with digital-goes-real experience, to turn around the age-old concept that your life story is written on your face,” commented David Fridlevski, Biotherm General Manager.

On 9 November, two days before the ‘Chinese Double 11’ or ‘Singles’ Day’ shopping holiday, Biotherm Homme invited David Beckham to Shanghai to launch the brand’s #StoryOfMyLife campaign.

Life Plankton Essence, now made for men, is Biotherm Homme’s ‘most intensely concentrated treatment in skin-coach Life Plankton’ in a liquid essence for aging skin.

“I recently discovered the new Force Supreme Life Essence which is really a booster in the morning. I feel like my skin is transformed,” said David Beckham.

  • David Beckham splits with H&M

    David Beckham splits with H&M

David Beckham has split with fashion retailer H&M – and he’s being upstaged by a Canadian pop star with a hairdo worse than Donald Trump’s…

H&M introduced its first Beckham Bodywear collection featuring form-fitting underwear in 2012 and expanded the partnership to include a broader range of garments including jerseys and light summer suits dubbed Modern Essentials in March 2015. There’s even been a Beckham raincoat.

But now the brand believes it is time for a change. It has signed up Grammy-winning R&B artist Abel Tesfaye, 26, who performs under the deliberately misspelled name The Weeknd, for a one-off menswear collection which will go on sale from March. The chain believes the new signing will appeal to younger shoppers than Beckham, now 41.

According to Bloomberg, H&M said it would not rule out future collaborations with Beckham, who also has partnerships with Hong Kong-based Global Brands, endorses Adidas shoes, Breitling watches and Samsung smartphones.

An H&M spokeswoman told Bloomberg there was no direct link between the end of the Beckham partnership and the signing of Tesfaye.

The singer will choose his favourite items for an H&M collection to be called Spring Icons Selected by The Weeknd.

    Queuing for Kenzo

Meanwhile, H&M’s collaboration with fashion label Kenzo launched yesterday, leading to queues outside two stores in Singapore where the collection was on sale – in the Orchard Building and at Ion Orchard.

The Orchard Building store opened at 8am and by 7.30am about 100 people were lined up outside the store. Some at the front of the queue had reportedly arrived on Tuesday morning, presumably holding the place in shifts.

Sports star/fashion icon David Beckham has reunited with comedy star Kevin Hart for a fresh H&M campaign.

In a commercial promoting the Modern Essentials selection by Beckham, the storyline picks up from their first H&M commercial together in which Hart was preparing to play Beckham in a biopic film. This time around, Hart is working on plans to star in I, Beckham: The Musical.

“I loved shooting the first campaign with Kevin for H&M so much, we just had to do a sequel,” says Beckham. “This time we’ve pushed the story even further.”

“It’s great to have the opportunity once more to show the world what everyone really knows, that I am the true inspiration for David Beckham’s style. He copies everything from me,” says Hart.

David Beckham film heads Biotherm Homme campaign

A David Beckham film is spearheading a campaign to promote Biotherm Homme’s Force Supreme skincare range.

Celebrating the sportsman’s life story, a video documentary Force Supreme: The Story of My Life was put together by Swedish director Johan Renck, known for his music videos and commercials.

In his 40s, Beckham is still a fashion and grooming icon, and in the skincare movie he tells how his life is still evolving.

He says he uses Force Supreme serum to improve his skin, and says the range’s new Life Essence “is really a booster in the morning”.

French luxury skincare brand Biotherm launched Biotherm Homme in 1985 and offers more than 80 products for different skin types and concerns. Biotherm Homme is a brand in the L’Oreal Luxe portfolio.

  • Trinity Group confident despite loss

    Trinity Group confident despite loss

With revenue totalling HK$1.9 billion (US$245 million), Hong Kong-listed retailer Trinity Group lost HK$88.5 million last year.

Trinity Group, which sells premium menswear brands in greater China and Europe, says it continued to be dragged down by the dampened consumer spending environment in China, but has implemented business reforms as well as restructuring aimed at improving its position long term.

As well as the slower growth in China, its main market, the group also lost money with one-off restructuring costs and the impact of the RMB’s depreciation.

Trinity Group, a Fung Retailing company, owns the Cerruti 1881, Kent & Curwen and Gieves & Hawkes brands and manages D’Urban under long-term licence in Greater China.

CEO Richard Cohen says while the group took measures to mitigate against the expected lower consumer spend, the impact on same-store sales in the last quarter was far more significant than the retail sector predicted. However, the group’s overall performance was in line with that experienced by the wider high-end and premium retail sectors.

“Our results, along with others in the industry, are disappointing but not wholly unexpected. Looking forward, we believe there are significant international wholesale, franchising and retail opportunities for the group in the long term.”

Efficiency measures by the group last year included improvements to sourcing and inventory management. This involved a consolidation restructure, including moves to further reduce staff costs, which resulted in one-off full-year costs of HK$60 million.

Fifty non-performing stores were closed, reducing the group’s outlets from 399 at the end of 2014 to 349.

Cohen says the group was able to maintain gross-profit margins above 70 per cent despite the difficult retail environment.

While maintaining its focus on the Chinese consumer, Cohen says the Trinity Group has revised its global strategy.

“The growing middle class in China is increasingly travelling abroad, so our strategy is to continue to engage with these core customers when they travel, while also reaching out to new clientele.”

Related to this strategy, the group signed an exclusive five-year agreement in September that will see international sports icon David Beckham play a multifaceted role in driving Trinity’s Kent & Curwen business globally.
