Foodpanda to drive Covid-19 vaccination awareness campaign across Asia

Food and grocery delivery service Foodpanda has launched a Covid-19 vaccination awareness campaign across Asia in the lead-up to WHO’s World Immunisation Week. The campaign, which aims to reach more than 10 million people across Asia, will include a series of content across digital and social media channels, providing information and resources on local vaccination programs.

It will be rolled out in phases across Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Cambodia, Japan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and the Philippines.

“The region’s battle with Covid-19 is ongoing, and we have to stay vigilant on keeping our ecosystem safe,” said Jakob Angele, CEO of Foodpanda. “Leveraging existing channels with our network of riders, merchants, employees and customers, we can raise greater awareness around fighting misinformation and share information around local vaccination programs so that our entire delivery ecosystem can be informed and mobilized.”

Besides its social media campaign, Foodpanda will also join hands with local authorities to support vaccination programs in Singapore, Cambodia, and the Philippines.

“We will continuously explore ways to play a part in the fight against Covid-19.”

Vietnam’s peer-to-peer shopping and delivery platform gets South Korea license

Vietnamese peer-to-peer delivery service XTayPro has been licensed in South Korea and expects this to be a stepping stone into East Asia. The app is a platform connecting people travelling by air with those who wish to buy or send products overseas.

It creates a community of travelers who can make a little extra cash by buying and carrying stuff for others.

Less than four months ago XTayPro had participated in the K-Startup Grand Challenge, a start-up accelerator program supported by the South Korean government.

It has since signed 10 memoranda of understanding and letters of intent with funds and technology investment companies in South Korea.

The K-Startup Grand Challenge has been held annually since 2016 to help start-ups grow and expand into Asian markets. It has so far supported 40 startups and solicited $26 million for them.

At this year’s event Vietnam had 8 representatives who overcame 1,700 other start-ups from 100 countries to join a group of 80 in the 4-month Acceleration Program.

  • 7-Eleven Thailand launches delivery service

    7-Eleven Thailand launches delivery service

More than 3000 Bangkok 7-Eleven stores are offering a courier service and collection point. The new service, which launched on Monday, promises next-day delivery on parcels or letters dropped off at a participating 7-Eleven store prior to 9pm.

Customers using the service must present their ID then buy an envelope or box to send their goods in, with fees ranging from THB 35 to THB 119 (US$1.05 to $3.58). A flat rate applies across the city, depending on the size of the box or envelope.

Customers can send goods any hour of the day or night and senders can use 7-Eleven stores as collections points, rather than sending to a street or office address.

Called the 24/7 Speed-D express delivery service, it is also available at stores in the neighbouring provinces of greater Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani and Samut Prakan.

The service is a joint venture between 7-Eleven’s parent company CP All and delivery company Dynamic Logistics. All deliveries can be tracked by GPS on the Dynamic Logistics website.

As well as a growing range of banking services, two Bangkok 7-Eleven stores recently introduced a trial food and coffee delivery service based on the Line messaging platform.

  • Sagawa to buy Vietnamese delivery service

Sagawa to buy Vietnamese delivery service

The Sagawa group will acquire Phat Loc Express, Vietnam’s fifth-largest delivery service, gaining a foothold to expand operations nationwide as online shopping continues to grow.

Japan’s SG Holdings, the parent of Sagawa Express, will buy all of Phat Loc’s shares from management. The Vietnamese company was established in 2001 and has about 1,200 employees. Its roughly 60 branches cover deliveries in the entire country. Phat Loc logged sales of over $9 million in 2015, and the purchase price likely will be a similar amount. With a market share of just a few percent, the company is dwarfed by Vietnam’s two major delivery services.

SG Holdings began deliveries in Vietnam via a local subsidiary in 2012. The company handles its own deliveries in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi but contracts local businesses for other regions. The purchase of Phat Loc will let SG Holdings expand service nationwide.

Vietnam’s service quality remains rather low, and packages sometimes arrive late or damaged. The Sagawa group will tap its Japanese know-how to try to boost the quality of Phat Loc’s service in order to challenge Vietnam’s delivery leaders.

SG Holdings teamed with major Vietnamese real estate and retail company Vingroup in November. The Japanese business will deliver products for the group’s supermarkets and convenience stores. The delivery company is accelerating its Southeast Asian expansion, partnering this year with companies in Indonesia and the Philippines.
