    AirAsia Opens Jakarta-Phuket Route

    “Currently the traveling trend continues to increase especially in the youth market, hence demand to open unique routes is increasing as well,” said AirAsia Indonesia president director Dendy Kurniawan.

    Phuket is one of Thailand’s biggest islands in the southern side and boasts various destinations, such as Phi Phi Island, Big Buddha statue in Chalong and Phuket Old Town. The carrier is currently offering promotional fares from Rp 583,000 (US$40.35) one way that can be booked until May 26 for a travel period between July 2 and Oct. 25.

    Other direct flights served by AirAsia from Thailand to Indonesia are Jakarta-Bangkok, Medan-Bangkok and Denpasar-Bangkok.

    Ministry terminates Australia`s Tiger Air charter flight operations

    The Airport Authority of the Transportation Ministry has terminated the operations of the Tiger Air charter flight from Bali to Australia for failure to abide by regulations.

    The decision to terminate the Tiger Air charter flight from Bali to Australia was made by the Airport Authority (OBU), Region VI of the Directorate General of Air Transportation, Wednesday, January 11, 2017.

    Spokesman of the Directorate General of Air Transportation Agoes Soebagio, in a written statement in Jakarta, Wednesday, said the OBU Region IV had also terminated, as of Wednesday (January 11), the operations of charter flights of the Tiger Airways Australia from Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide in Australia to Denpasar, Bali.

    The examinations by the OBU Region IV revealed that Tiger Airways Australia (TT) did not abide by the regulations contained in the charter flight permit provided by the Directorate General of Air Transportation.

    The Tiger Airways Australia did not comply with regulations as contained in the KM 25/2008 and PM 66/2015, which has been amended to PM 109/2016.

    Garuda Indonesia Denpasar Aims for 10% Growth

    PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. Denpasar Branch Office has targeted a 10 percent growth this year compared to 2015.

    Micky Irfandi, General Manager of Garuda Indonesia Denpasar Branch Office, said he is optimistic of achieving the target through a wide range of efforts, though he admitted that Q1 2016 sales has yet to show any positive signal.

    “In Q1 2016, we actually saw a decrease of 14 percent compared to the same period last year. One of the factor that affected the decrease was unstable global economy, which has made people and companies or agencies to be more efficient,” Micky said, Monday, April 18, 2016.

    Based on the data of Bali Statistic Agency, the number international departure from I Gusti Ngurah Rai airport in February 2016 was 2,423 flight departures. The figure was down by 2.73 from previous month of 2,491 flights.

    For domestic flights, the number of aircraft departed from I Gusti Ngurah Rai airport in February 2016 was 3,067 flight departures, or fell by 7.15 percent compared to the previous month of 3,303 flight departures.

    Moreover, Micky went on, another factor which has affected the growth figure was fuel price decrease which has forced his company to readjust ticket prices.

    “Fuel price decrease has resulted in lower ticket prices and it has reduced our revenue compared to previous figure,” Micky said.

    Garuda continues to launch various promotional efforts to attract foreigners to travel to Bali in line with the company’s support for the government program of 20 foreign tourist visits by 2019.

    “We continue to carry out various efforts to support the government programs also by opening new routes recently and increasing the number of seats for Denpasar-Hong Kong route. The route was previously using 737-800 aircraft with a capacity of 162 seats; we replaced it with A333 aircraft with 251 seats and adding 89 seats,” he explained.

    Micky added that Garuda is also mulling on increasing flight frequency of Denpasar-Beijing and Denpasar-Shanghai routes from three flights per week to four or five flights.

    Garuda Indonesia to open direct flight on Shanghai-Denpasar route

    Indonesian flag carrier Garuda Indonesia is planning to start a direct flight between Shanghai, China, and Denpasar, Bali, on January 13.

    “The non-stop flight between Shanghai and Denpasar will operate twice e a week using an Airbus-330 aircraft,” Vice President of Garuda Indonesia for China Region I, I Wayan Subagja, in Beijing, on Tuesday.

    As Bali is the favorite destination for Chinese tourists visiting Indonesia, hence Garuda will continue to increase the number of direct flights to Bali through regular and unscheduled flights.

    Garuda Indonesia also provides regular flights on the Beijing-Jakarta route that operate thrice a week and seven weekly flights each on the Shanghai-Jakarta and Guangzhou-Jakarta routes.

    Since January 2013, the national flag carrier has been operating four non-stop weekly flights on the Beijing-Denpasar route and has also added a new flight on the Guangzhou-Denpasar route at the end of 2015.

    Moreover, Garuda facilitates unscheduled flights for people from eleven Chinese cities who plan on visiting Bali for the Chinese New Year and summer holidays.

    “They still have huge interest to visit Bali due to which Garuda has tried to provide ease and comfort to tourists who want to visit Bali. We also promote other destinations in Indonesia,” Subagja emphasized.

    The opening of flights between several cities in Tiongkok and Bali is expected to support an increase in the number of Chinese tourists to Indonesia, which is targeted to reach ten million people in the next five years since 2015.

    Garuda cancels all flights to Denpasar due to volcanic ash

    Garuda Indonesia Airlines on Sunday cancelled all flights to Balis Nurah Rai International Airport following its closure again at 9.30 a.m local time on Sunday.

    The flights cancellation was aimed to avoid aviation hazards and to ensure passenger safety due to the volcanic ash being spewed by Mount Raung in East Java Province.

    “Due to the rising eruption of Mount Raung in Bondowoso, East Java, this volcano was closed again on Sunday, that makes Garuda temporarily canceled all flights to Denpasar,” Executive Vice President Corporate Communications PT Garuda Indonesia M Ikhsan Rosan said in his press statement received here on Sunday.

    The Garuda flights were cancelled after a notice was issued to airmen (Notam) “No.A1423/15 which was issued by the Briefing Office of Ministry of Transportation.

    In addition, Garuda also cancelled its flights from Balis Nurah Rai International Airport pending further announcement which will be issued by the Briefing Office.

    Rosan further said that with regard to the mount eruption, Garuda issued policy such as the exemptions of cancellation fee, administration fees, re-booking or reroute fee, refund fee, and other ticket change fees for passengers scheduled to fly to Denpasar on the day.

    Garuda also called flights for the passengers who will fly to and from Denpasar to immediately make changes to ticket reservation through the Call Center Garuda Indonesia (24 hours) at numbers 021-2351 9999 and 0804 1 807 807.

    On Friday (July 10) Garuda cancelled 112 flights to avoid aviation hazards and to ensure passenger safety due to volcanic ash being spewed by the Mount Raung.
