“From collectors to those trying whiskey for the first time, the Whiskey Festival is designed for discovery, offering a way to explore this multifaceted spirit.”

The DFS Whiskey Festival is taking place in the during the DFS, Hong Kong International Airport from the 1st to 30th of June.

  • DFS Group starts winding down Changi Airport liquor business

DFS Group starts winding down Changi Airport liquor business

DFS Group will close all of its stores at Changi Airport on June 8 as its 35-year tenure as wine and spirits concessionaire comes to an end.

With two of Changi Airport’s four terminals now mothballed in the wake of the Covid-19 crisis, and the number of travelers passing through the remaining ones at a record low, DFS Group has taken to selling more than 200 wines and spirits online at iShopChangiWines.com, offering discounts of up to 70 percent off regular price. The company says it will absorb taxes and duties for customers, who do not have to travel to receive the discount.

From now until May 22, daily flash deals will run on the site as well.

“As one of DFS’ most esteemed allies for the last 35 years, we thank Changi Airport Group for their ongoing support and partnership,” said Aymeric Lacroix, DFS Group MD Asia South.

“We will continue to serve our customers with the same passion for excellence that has distinguished us at Changi Airport until our official exit in June.”

DFS Group opted not to bid to renew its concession at Changi Airport because it did not believe it could continue to trade there viably.

“Our decision not to bid was based on our unique understanding of the business environment as the current operator of this concession at Changi,” chairman and CEO Ed Brennan said in a statement last August.

The LVMH-owned group withdrew from Hong Kong International Airport as well, several years ago. At Changi, DFS Group will be replaced by South Korea’s Lotte Duty-Free.

DFS Group’s Changi exit applies only to its high-profile liquor concession. The company will continue to operate its multi-label “Fashion Avenue” at Terminal 3 and various brand boutiques across all operating terminals.

Since winning the Liquor and Tobacco concession in 1985, DFS Wines and Spirits opened numerous stores across Singapore Changi Airport, including in Terminal 2 (1990), the first of its kind Duplex store at Terminal 3 including the Raffles Long Bar (2015), the second Wines & Spirits Duplex store at Terminal 2 (2016) and the first ‘walkthrough’ retail concept store at Terminal 4 (2017).

“For 35 years and over 300 thousand hours, DFS has been in operation at Changi Airport. Over three wonderful decades of memories and friendships later, it has become an iconic go-to stop for passengers leaving and arriving in Singapore, carrying more than 700 different wines and spirits brands, and selling more than 200 million bottles,” said Lacroix.

Singapore Cruise Centre concession goes to DFS Group

Luxury travel retailer DFS Group has been awarded the master duty-free and general merchandise concession at Singapore Cruise Centre (SCC).

Winning the public tender process announced in June, DFS has a five-year contract covering SCC’s HarbourFront and Tanah Merah ferry terminals, with a two-year extension option.

It is the first time SCC has awarded a master duty-free concession, consolidating several contracts including liquor and tobacco, perfumes and cosmetics, fashion, travel accessories and confectionery into a single contract.

DFS will start trading on April 1, being allocated commercial space spanning 6000 sqft (557 sqm) across seven outlets at the terminals. The deal involves a reconfiguration of the main retail space at the arrival and departure areas of both terminals.

Singapore Cruise Centre CEO Christina Siaw says the tender process attracted participation from the world’s leading international duty-free concession companies. “We were highly impressed with the passion, innovation and attention to detail demonstrated by participants in the tender proposal and interview stages.”

She says passengers at the SCC terminals will soon have access to more retail space with a new store concept as well as new brands, marketing activities and services.

DFS will offer products from more than 150 brands and introduce food and whisky-tasting stations as well as eCommerce, collection and home-delivery platforms.

Outlets will undergo a phased renovation, introducing a revamped design inspired by the traditional seafront buildings nestled along Singapore’s coastline.

More than 6.3 million ferry passengers and 560,000 cruise passengers pass through SCC’s terminals annually. DFS has had a presence at SCC for two decades.

Developed by Melco Crown Entertainment, City of Dreams is an integrated resort that brings together a collection of brands including Crown, Dragone, Grand Hyatt and Hard Rock, with more than 20 restaurants and bars, the world’s largest water-based extravaganza in the Dancing Water Theater, and accommodation options.

The mall extension follows a new package of social and economic policies for the city, released under the Macau government’s Five-Year Development Plan. By 2020, the government wants to see non-gaming income account on average for at least 9 per cent of all revenue generated by casinos, compared to an estimated 6.6 per cent in 2014.
