  • LVMH hits up record revenue in 2017

LVMH hits up record revenue in 2017

It has been another record year for luxury products group LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton.

Revenue increased by 13 per cent year on year to reach €42.6 billion (US$52.9 billion), while organic revenue growth was 12 per cent.

All business groups recorded double-digit organic growth with the exception of wines and spirits, where second-half growth was hit by supply constraints.

Profit from recurring operations reached €8.2 billion, up 18 per cent. Operating margin reached 19.5 per cent, while the group share of net profit was €5.1 billion, growth of 29 per cent.

Describing the performance as “excellent”, LVMH chairman/CEO Bernard Arnault says the record year was partly because of a buoyant environment but above all a result of the creative strength of the group’s brands “and their ability to constantly reinvent themselves”.

Key highlights of last year listed by the group include:

    ● Record revenue and profit from recurring operations.

    ● Growth in Asia, Europe and the US.

    ● The success of both iconic and new products at Louis Vuitton, “whose profitability remains at an exceptional level”.

    ● The acquisition of Christian Dior Couture.

    ● Growth at Fendi and Loro Piana.

    ● The first year of integration of Rimowa luggage.

    ● Strong momentum at Parfums Christian Dior, driven by product innovation.

    ● An excellent year for Bulgari and good progress at Hublot and Tag Heuer.

    ● Growth at Sephora.

    ● Free cashflow of €4.7 billion, up 20 per cent.

“Significant” growth in China helped Hennessy cognac volumes grow by 8 per cent, with 7.5 million cases shipped despite the second-half supply constraints.

In fashion and leather goods, key events of the year were products arising from collaborations with artist Jeff Koons as well as the Supreme brand, the launch of the brand’s first smartwatch and the inauguration of the Maison Louis Vuitton Vendome in Paris.

There was rapid growth in Asia for the perfumes and cosmetics segment, and growth was particularly strong in Asia for Bulgari. Asia again shone in the selective retailing group with Sephora continuing to gain market share.

LVMH says the year was a positive turning point for DFS, with new stores in Cambodia and Italy continuing to grow sales.

Despite unfavourable currencies and geopolitical uncertainties, LVMH says it is well equipped to continue its growth momentum across all business groups this year.

  • DFS Hosts Ninth Annual Masters Of Time Event

DFS Hosts Ninth Annual Masters Of Time Event

DFS Group, the world’s leading travel retailer, launched its ninth annual Masters of Time exhibition on Saturday, December 9. The exhibition, which is held at T Galleria by DFS, Macau, in partnership with Shoppes at Four Seasons, will run until February 28, 2018 for customers to view and shop the curated collection. The DFS Masters of Time exhibition is well known for being the world’s largest and most prestigious retail event for luxury watches and jewelry, showcasing the best in design, innovation and heritage for men and women. This year, DFS’ expert teams brought together an unparalleled collection of more than 450 fine watches and exquisite jewelry from 30 brands in a theme that focused on the concept of memories.

“This year’s Masters of Time exhibition explores how watch collectors and creators commemorate life’s most significant moments, so that certain pieces become imbued with our memories,” said Christophe Chaix, Senior Vice President, Fashion, Watches, Jewelry and Accessories. “As always, the customer is at the heart of everything we do at DFS, and each year we travel the world to curate a Masters of Time exhibition to delight returning and new customers alike. This exhibition offers seasoned collectors and first-time buyers the chance to
own exceptional pieces that will forever become part of their own memorable journey.”

The ninth annual Masters of Time exhibition kicked off with a prestigious gala event where award-winning artist Jade Kwan performed for guests as they explored a variety of intriguing activities. A multi-sensory exhibition was introduced for the first time at Masters of Time, in which the curated collection of timepieces and jewelry was displayed through a series of interactive pop-up spaces and animations to evoke emotions and ignite the senses. Guests were taken on a multi-sensory journey through four different spaces that explored the concepts of
nostalgia, memories, adventure and heritage, each of which transported guests back to a special place, moment or time.

Romantic, rare and archival pieces with a focus on “savoir faire” took center stage in the section dedicated to nostalgia, whilst innovative complications that are certain to become future icons embodied the idea of making memories. Highly technical sports and lifestyle watches dominated in the adventure area, and finally, iconic and classic timepieces brought heritage to life. In addition, guests were treated to a taste of The Macallan whisky and fine Petrossian caviar, paired to provide the ultimate culinary experience. Korean illustrator Jae Suk Kim flew in from Seoul to hand-paint guests’ portraits in his signature style, featuring Su Su girls adorned in fine jewelry and watch pieces, as holiday gift cards to commemorate the event.

The 2017 Masters of Time exhibition is available for viewing and purchase at T Galleria by DFS, Macau, Shoppes at Four Seasons until February 28, 2018.

  • DFS opens new experiential wine & spirits store

DFS Group has opened its 167sq m wine and spirits duty free store at Singapore Changi Airport’s new Terminal 4.

Featuring over 300 brands, Terminal 4 is the first terminal at Changi to offer a ‘walk-through’ retail concept, allowing DFS to introduce new features for a seamless shopping experience.

This includes integrated shopping spaces covering liquor & tobacco and perfumes & cosmetics.

In addition, travellers can for the first time make their purchases in a single transaction at common cash counters manned by team members cross-trained on all products.

Brooke Supernaw, DFS Group’s Senior Vice President Spirits, Wines and Tobacco, Food and Gifts said: “We have been eagerly awaiting the opening of Terminal 4 and are thrilled to officially unveil DFS’ latest store here at Changi Airport.

“We are excited to introduce two new concepts to provide our customers with more ways to engage with and discover new brands.”

Travellers are encouraged to engage in the basics of cocktail making at The Cocktail Bar.The new store features ‘The Cocktail Bar’ and ‘The Craft Collection’ section, allowing passengers to discover and engage with new brands.

Aimed at making cocktails accessible for connoisseurs and novices alike, a selection of brands will be invited to take over the space and showcase their spirits throughout the year.

The Craft Collection section showcases a selection of craft and small-batch beers and spirits from around the world, ‘curated for travelling customers looking for something unique and artisanal’, states DFS.

The travel retailer says it aims to invoke the stories and passion of a new generation of brewers and distillers who put ‘innovation, authenticity and local culture’ into everything they do.

Three craft beers are available on tap for tasting, as well as a rotating selection of spirits.

According to DFS, gin is a category that embodies today’s craft movement within spirits, so new brands will be introduced to the collection on rotation.

Terminal 4 also features The Whiskey House, which marks a welcome return following its success at DFS’s Terminal 2 Duplex store.

From timeless classics and special releases to exclusive bottlings and single casks, The Whiskey House offers complimentary tastings of over 100 different whiskeys.

Meanwhile, Master Distillers and Brand Ambassadors will stop by regularly to introduce their new release exclusives, with guided tastings and food pairings.

The new Terminal 4 store also boasts an impressive selection of ‘prestige wines’, with special collections from Lafite, Mouton and Latour among others.

Passengers will also be able to sample a curated selection of wine, ‘presented in enomatic tasting machines’ instore before they buy.

To celebrate the launch of the store, DFS has collaborated with local award-winning bartender Peter Chua of Crackerjack to create three cocktails inspired by Singapore’s favourite sweet treats.

Every Friday and Saturday until the end of December, travellers will be able to enjoy complimentary samplings of the three cocktail serves at the Terminal 4 Activation Pad.

In addition, customers who spend over S$120 ($88.6) on wines and spirits will receive a local snack ‘plushie coin pouch’ with their purchase.

Commenting on the opening, Teo Chew Hoon, Group Senior Vice President of Airside Concessions Division at Changi Airport Group, said: “Our vision for Terminal 4 is to continually delight travellers with new retail experiences. CAG is happy to work with DFS to create a first-in-Changi seamless duty-free zone.

“With the addition of Terminal 4, we look forward to welcoming many more travellers to enjoy Changi Airport’s exciting offerings.”
