Diptyque, the prominent fragrance brand, has extended its presence in Hong Kong with the inauguration of a flagship store on Hollywood Road. This move comes as an expansion of its initial street-level concept store, which was launched in the same location a year prior.

Positioned in the Central district, the 100 square meter, two-story boutique embodies a Parisian-inspired interior design aesthetic. The store’s aesthetics pay homage to the architectural and cultural heritage of Hong Kong. An eye-catching feature is the green, double-story facade, with a neon installation embedded in the upper-floor window. This vibrant piece is the brainchild of renowned Hong Kong artist Jive Lau.

On stepping inside, one can observe an intricate blend of traditional Parisian apartment elements, fused with mosaic details inspired by the old-style storefronts and antique shops in Hong Kong. The ground floor gives prominence to an expansive wooden island display, exhibiting a range of products and gift items. Fragrance and home collections are also showcased within wall niches peppered around the area.

The first floor plays host to a number of collections, inclusive of the Les Mondes de Diptyque and Les Essences de Diptyque ranges. Also featured on this level is an Art of Body Care section, boasting a fresco by the Redfield and Dattner design studio.

According to Diptyque, the primary aim behind this flagship store was to curate an immersive retail experience. This concept revolves around the themes of fragrance, home decor, and body care rituals. Established in Paris in 1961, Diptyque is a specialist in fragrances, scented candles, and decorative objects. It currently runs multiple outlets and counters throughout Hong Kong, including locations at IFC Mall, Harbour City, and K11 Musea.

The ground floor houses Diptyque’s full collection of perfumes and home fragrances, including limited editions and boutique-exclusive products. The 260sqm store offers customization services such as engraving, perfume message ribbon, embossing, and candle message capsules.

A large marble staircase leads to the upper floor, which was designed with a layout of an up-market Paris apartment. While the cozy living room is decorated with a counter “reminiscent of a herbalist”, the kitchen is inspired by the one in the “magnificent private residence of Moise de Camondo” built in the 18th-century style, a space for olfactory experiments and workshop.

The living room is a space where customers can rest and see artwork and decoration items that pay a tribute to the craftsmanship of Korea. The bathroom features a black and white checkered tiled floor and a large retro-styled bathtub. The room is highlighted with traditional Korean pottery.

Diptyque said it has seen double-digit sales growth in South Korea annually since Shinsegae International secured the domestic sales rights in 2017. According to Euromonitor, South Korea’s perfume market reached US$491.6 million in 2019 and is expected to exceed $532 million next year.

Diptyque opens its new Singapore store

Diptyque Singapore has opened its first store, a 423sqft (39sqm) space at Ngee Ann City.

Previously, the French firm’s scented candles, perfumes, and face and bodycare range were available online or through smaller retailers and stores like Escentials and Tangs.

It is only the second Diptyque boutique in Southeast Asia, the first being in Kuala Lumpur. It features brass furnishings and forest-green Indian marble, while its walls are bottle green. This echoes Singapore’s status as a garden city, as every Diptyque store is designed with the locality in mind.

As the opening in Singapore coincides with the 50th anniversary of the brand’s first fragrance, L’Eau, two new scents have been released, Fleur de Peau and Tempo, both developed by perfumer Olivier Pescheux.

A feature of the store is a gift-wrapping service.
