Global Savings Group is launching discount code portal CupoNation in Indonesia

The Global Savings Group (GSG), a Rocket Internet backed leading global provider of Commerce Content Solutions, launches its premium discount code portal CupoNation in Indonesia. The new portal will enable Indonesian users to save more on online shopping from leading retail stores and brands. It is now accessible for avid shoppers in Indonesia through its local website www.cuponation.co.id.

The GSG is globally operating over 100 digital portals and tools that offer the right mix of product discovery, recommendations, deals and discounts to help consumers take smarter shopping decisions while enabling advertisers to reach high-intent users at scale. Following the successful establishment of CupoNation in Singapore (2013), Australia (2014), and Malaysia (2016), the brand has been quickly gaining popularity in Southeast Asia Pacific markets.

Igor Shapiro, Managing Director Asia Pacific and Eastern Europe, says “We are convinced that Indonesia is the best next market to launch this platform. The launch of CupoNation in Indonesia will not only benefit online shoppers but also help e-commerce players and advertisers in generating significant value by attracting ‘discount savvy users’ to their portals, thereby increasing revenues.”

Indonesia has a population of over 264 million and growing. The global professional services company Accenture expects the national internet penetration to grow to 50% by 2022.

This forecasted significant increase in digitization and therefore digital commerce will be driven by Indonesia’s general positive development. The World Bank expects the GDP to continue to grow at an annual average of over 5 percent. Digital purchase is expected to grow by US$46.40 to US$78.10 per capita in the next four years. Furthermore, 74.1% of Indonesia’s online shoppers love discounts and will use them as a reason to purchase, the Accenture report reveals.

“Indonesia has a fast growing economy with a fast-growing e-commerce market. Through launching CupoNation in Indonesia we are adding a globally proven commerce content solution to the local ecosystem, linking consumers and retailers, and fueling this growth. With our strong team, global insights, and local synergies we see across the South East Asian markets, we are confident about becoming the leading discount code portal in Indonesia in the next months”, adds Igor.

Google and Temasek report that people in Southeast Asia spend more time on the mobile internet than anyone else on the planet. Indonesians spend 3.9 hours on the mobile internet, while U.S. users just spend 2 hours per day. According to GSMA Intelligence, there are 439 million registered mobile connections in Indonesia – a SIM penetration of 166%.

That’s why CupoNation has come to Indonesia with a fully mobile responsive service, providing a comprehensive range of online coupons and deals across 13 categories. These categories supported by Indonesians’ most-loved online shops and brands such as Lazada, Zalora, Tokopedia, Bhinneka, Matahari Mall, Blibli, Bukalapak, and many more.

Andreas Fruth, Managing Director and Co-Founder of the Global Savings Group, adds “We want to transform the way consumers buy and the way brands sell around the world. The launch of CupoNation in Indonesia is proof of our regional commitment, strengthening our position in the South East Asia Pacific markets and enhancing our global service offering, helping us to further improve our position as a global leading provider of commerce content solutions.”

  • Apple’s iPhone 7 Sees Discounting as China Sales Fall

Apple’s iPhone 7 Sees Discounting as China Sales Fall

Jun Zhang today reiterates a Neutral rating, and a $102 price target, warning that sales of the iPhone in China, he estimates, are “still weaker than retail channels” as discounting of the phone has popped up across the country.

iPhone sales, presumably in dollars, he doesn’t specify — fell by 6% in November, and are probably down “slightly” from November this month, as discounting takes hold outside of tight supplies at Apple’s online store:

Overall iPhone sales in China were down 6% in November and slightly down MoM in November due to some pushes in “single day” sales. In our view, iPh- one 7 sales will continue trending down and many retailers in China have al- ready started discounting ($50) the iPhone 7 in November. iPhone 7 Plus sup- ply is catching up in November, and sales have grown MoM in November. iPh- one 6/6S sales continue to be weak. The 7 Plus model currently accounts for 60% of iPhone 7 sales in China. We started seeing some retailers discounting this model in November. In our view, there is a waitlist if ordered from Apple’s online store, but consumers can easily buy them from local stores and third party retail stores. Since the jet black mod- el has high return rate, Apple might try to control capacity. Overall, we believe iPhone sales in China are still weaker than retail channels expected.

Zhang also cautions investors not to be mislead if they hear of component orders rising come the March quarter. In his view, “Some noise of Apple increasing orders might come from the iPad instead of the iPhone,” given he sees Apple refreshing the various iPad models in March.

  • Burberry Hong Kong deep discounts for Christmas

Burberry Hong Kong deep discounts for Christmas

Luxury fashion retailer Burberry Hong Kong has launched an unprecedented deep discounting campaign to move stock in the peak Christmas retail period.

The British brand has reduced the prices on some lines by 50 per cent, the biggest reductions since the Individual Visit Scheme for Mainland Chinese tourists was launched in 2003.

Typically, the highest discounts in the pre-Christmas sale is 30 per cent on limited lines.

It is rare for high end brands like Burberry to offer such large discounts – but rivals Gucci and Prada have already discounted lines by similar amounts in Hong Kong, where such retailers lack an outlet channel for surplus or end of line stock.

Industry observers say the level of discounting in such a peak retail period reflects the serious challenge faced by luxury retailers since the clampdown on gift giving in the Mainland took effect and the exchange rate fluctuations made it affordable for big spending Chinese travellers to travel to Japan and Europe to shop instead of Hong Kong and Macau.

“A 50 per cent discount is unusual for big luxury brands like Burberry” Hayman Chiu, associate director at Cinda International, told the South China Morning Post.

“The whole luxury industry is doing the same thing right now.”

Burberry’s discounts apply only to a limited proportion of its stock, specifically about 10 styles of handbags and some clothing.

AirAsia India on Monday introduced a flurry of offers both for domestic as well as international routes, to mark the group’s milestone of flying 300 million travellers.

AirAsia had announced last week that it would come up with something ‘big’ to mark the occasion.

Jet Airways also introduced a discount offer on Monday. Jet Airways announced a promotional scheme offering a flat 30 per cent discount on base fares of domestic flights and travel from India to international destinations.

Fare wars between airlines have turned intense in Indian skies and carriers have been coming up with offers every other week to woo flyers.

The promotional schemes offered by different airlines have helped spur strong passenger growth. The number of passengers carried by domestic airlines during January-June this year rose to 388 lakh, as against 324 lakh during the corresponding period of previous year – an increase of nearly 20 per cent.

  • Dress Thai for a discount

    Dress Thai for a discount

Shoppers in Thailand could later this year earn extra discounts if they shop in Thai national costume.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand is planning a promotion to reward both Thais and tourists who dress Thai with discounts of up to 80 per cent.

It believes the novel promotion will not only encourage shopping and raise awareness of the mid-year Amazing Thailand Grand Sale , but help broaden recognition and appreciation of traditional Thai clothing.

TAT says the plan is to boost awareness of “Thainess”.

Sugree Sithivanich, TAT’s deputy governor for marketing communications, said the authority still expects tourism growth during the traditional mid-year low season .

It plans to work with large shopping malls across the nation in a campaign to create awareness of this year’s tourism marketing theme: “2015 Discover Thainess”.

He said the campaign would be implemented during the Amazing Thailand Grand Sale which runs from June to September.
