Foodpanda Hong Kong donates HKD3m to Covid-19 community support

While we all wait for the rollout of the city’s anti-pandemic fund to support residents and businesses affected by the ongoing public health crisis, some of Hong Kong’s biggest companies have also stepped up to help. In a recent announcement, foodpanda, the largest food and grocery delivery platform in Asia, is also rising up to assist those that have been affected by the pandemic.

Foodpanda is launching a series of support measures, amounting to a total of $3 million, including a donation of 12 thousand food vouchers ($1 million worth) for people in need and investment on initiatives for their restaurant partners, shop vendors, and foodpanda fleet.

By mid-March, foodpanda food vouchers will be donated to 15 local charities, including Food Angel, Foodlink Foundation, ImpactHK, Hong Chi Association, Concern for Grassroots Livelihood Alliance, Tuen Mun District Women’s Association, Hong Kong Single Parents Association, Hong Kong Women Worker’s Association, Hong Kong Community Network, Chain of Charity Movement, Social Development Practice and Research Centre – Family Mutual Hub, among others. These vouchers may be redeemed on the foodpanda platform for food delivery or pick-up.

Foodpanda restaurant partners will get a waived monthly listing fee until March 31 and 50 percent discount off paper bags and foodpanda sustainable packaging. Meanwhile, their shop partners will get up to 28 percent reduced commission rate for new small-medium sized local vendors that sell locally produced fresh produce and food ingredients. New vendors to foodpanda mall will get an expedited onboarding process of seven to ten days. The company’s delivery fleet will get free access to 7,000 rapid COVID-19 rapid antigen test kits, an extension of Covid-19 insurance plan coverage, as well as free face masks, hand sanitisers, and durable medical-grade self-sanitising photocatalyst coating for couriers’ thermal bags. The platform is also setting up a dedicated express registration link for F&B staff hard hit by the pandemic who want to apply and join the foodpanda fleet as couriers to gain extra income.

“As members of the Hong Kong community ourselves, our entire team is dedicated to rallying together to find ways to give back to the local public and support our stakeholders, providing temporary relief measures for some,” shares foodpanda Hong Kong’s managing director Ryan Lai. “Apart from providing additional support through various initiatives, we hope that we can also encourage others within the industry to roll out support measures too, as we all fight to overcome the pandemic together,” he adds.

  • Skechers to donate more than 62,000 pairs of BOBS shoes

Skechers to donate more than 62,000 pairs of BOBS shoes

Skechers USA Inc. will donate more than 62,000 pairs of BOBS shoes to support children affected by the devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake in Nepal through charitable footwear donation program, the footwear maker said on Thursday.

The donation will add to the company’s 11 million-pairs distributed to children in need worldwide since the BOBS charitable program launched in 2011.

Working with donation partners K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers and Soles4Souls, more than 62,000 pairs of BOBS from SKECHERS donation shoes will be transported to Nepal to aid victims of the April 25 earthquake.

Working with donation partners K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers and Soles4Souls, the first delivery of more than 36,000 pairs is scheduled to arrive for May distribution. As more rubble is cleared and transitional housing is established for victims of the earthquake, an additional container of 26,000-plus pairs of BOBS will arrive in Nepal for distribution in August.

“BOBS was created as an ongoing program to help children in need around the world, but when a natural disaster strikes we need to step up even more to help families affected by these tragedies,” began SKECHERS president Michael Greenberg. “With reports of more than 300,000 homes destroyed, 16,000 people injured and thousands of lives lost, we need to do our part to help the people of Nepal rebuild. The need for food, water and shelter is critical, but shoes to protect a child’s feet can offer a feeling of comfort and safety in the midst of a chaotic disaster zone. We are happy to work with our charitable partners K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers and Soles4Souls to transport BOBS shoes into Nepal, and we hope this donation will help thousands of children in need.”

The BOBS donation in Nepal is Skechers’s latest contribution to help families affected by disaster. In addition to Typhoon Haiyan relief in the Philippines, the company’s previous donations have provided footwear for survivors of Hurricane Sandy in New York in 2012 and victims of the devastating Haiti earthquake in 2010. BOBS also regularly donates its product to more than 30 countries worldwide, from communities in need in the United States to families around the globe.

Gap matches employees’ donations to aid group for Nepal Earthquake

Gap is matching funds of any eligible Gap employee who donates to the aid group Mercy Corps in response to the devastating earthquake that recently hit Nepal and the surrounding area, the US fashion giant said on Saturday. The disaster has injured over 8,000 people and killed more than 4,400 by Tuesday.

“Gap Inc. and our employees extend our deepest sympathies to the victims and the families of all those affected by the devastating earthquake in Nepal, and those impacted across South Asia,” the company said in a statement.

In respond to the concerns about whether the earthquake may have resulted in structural damage in some Bangladesh garment factories, the company said it’s working with the Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety (AFBWS) on the ground, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, the Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh, and the Government of Bangladesh to ensure that all workers are safe.

AFBWS is a group of 26 major global retailers formed to develop and launch the Bangladesh Worker Safety Initiative, a binding, five-year undertaking with the intent of improving safety in Bangladeshi ready-made garment factories after the 2013 Rana Plaza building collapse. Gap is a founding member of the group.
