Dover Street Market Beijing launched with revamp

Dover Street Market Beijing, formerly I.T Beijing Market, has opened for business with a brand-new interior.

The four-storey, 2200sqm glass house fashion landmark was restructured and redesigned, before a soft opening in April. This week, I.T Group has formally launched the new store, with further upgrades and additions, while renewing the brands and visual displays in line with other DSM stores around the world.

Much of the interior was redesigned by Rei Kawakubo of the Comme des Garcon team.

New features include a “village hut” installation at the entrance as well as diverse and contrasting layouts, materials, and colors on every floor, attempting the DSM signature “Beautiful Chaos” style.

Highlights include a Molly Goddard white dress and wooden-blind partition theme on the second floor; raw industrial metallic silver displays weaving throughout the third floor, and a dynamic white sneaker space and T-shirt space gallery on the fourth level.

The market has released a full adjusted space and brands schedule for the Fashion Week 2018 season.

  • Dover Street Market opens in Singapore

Dover Street Market opens in Singapore

Dover Street Market has finally opened its doors in Singapore, the fifth location for the Japanese fashion retailer, conceived by fashion designer Rei Kawakubo, the founder of luxury label Comme des Garçons.

Located inside an old army barrack, the latest market addition officially opened on Saturday, after it was first announced in December 2016.

DSM Singapore is housed in a building that forms part of the COMO Dempsey complex.  The complex has been hailed as a “lifestyle destination” in Singapore, stocked with designer shops and restaurants.

“I want to create a kind of market where various creators from various fields gather together and encounter each other in an ongoing atmosphere of beautiful chaos; the mixing up and coming together of different kindred souls who all share a strong personal vision,” said the Japanese designer, who designed the new store.

DSM Singapore sells a curated range of luxury streetwear labels. Inside, Balenciaga, The Row, and Thom Browne are in their self-designed individual sections, alongside the mainstay Comme des Garçons — hung within two large glass-meets-steel fittings.

Elsewhere, the Wire Fence Labyrinth boasts metal mesh walls and hosts women’s fashion from Jacquemus, JW Anderson, Molly Goddard and Vetements, while the store’s men’s apparel is found inside solo steel towers.

DSM opened its first location in London in 2004. Today, it has locations in Tokyo, New York and Beijing.

Dover Street Market Singapore will debut at Tanglin Village early next year, marking the fashion brand’s fourth global site.

To be known as DSM Singapore, the hip Japanese concept will sell a curated range of labels.

Founded by 74-year-old Japanese fashion designer Rei Kawakubo, who also founded Comme des Garcons, the outlet follows stores in London, New York and Tokyo.

In the upmarket Dempsey area, DSM Singapore is expected to be a highlight of the Tanglin Village renovation project Como Dempsey, which takes over the space vacated by Chang Korean BBQ Restaurant and antique store Shang Antique. The complex will also house a concept restaurant and bar by French restaurateur Jean-Georges Vongerichten.

Dover Street Market Will Open a Store in Singapore

Dover Street Market is coming to Singapore. Founder Rei Kawakubo is opening another retail space in Southeast Asia next year. The new store will be its fifth location following New York, Beijing, Tokyo, and London, where it first began as a shop front for Kawakubo’s renowned label Comme des Garçons over 10 years ago.

Soon, shoppers in Singapore will have access to a massive selection of noteworthy brands and exclusive products that makes the multi-brand marketplace one of the best boutiques on earth.

The upcoming location will be seated in a retail space called “COMO Dempsey” and is likely to share the same “beautiful chaos” philosophy Kawakubo has infused in her other locations.

An exact opening date hasn’t been released yet, but stay tuned for more details.
