    PT Garuda Indonesia provides extra 45,000 seats to serve people for 2017 Eid al-Fitr.

    “This year we offer extra seats to people or consumers who travel before Eid al-Fitr and after the celebration,” PT Garuda Indonesia President Director Pahala N. Mansyuri said in Bali on Saturday (6/5).

    He added that the extra seats offered before and after 2017 Eid al-Fitr increase 39 percent compared to the previous year.

    “We offer the extra seats eight days before and after the celebration starting from 18 June to 3 July 2017,” he added.

    250 thousand tourists visit Gunung Kidul during Lebaran holidays

    Around 250 thousand tourists visited numerous tourist attractions in Gunung Kidul District, Yogyakarta, in a week during the 2016 Lebaran holidays, according to local Culture and Tourism Office spokesman Hary Sukmono.

    “Based on reports received from several tourist attractions, the total revenue generated from 250 thousand tourists visiting the areas amounted to Rp1.57 billion,” Sukmono remarked here on Tuesday.

    However, the spokesman acknowledged that the number of tourists visiting Gunung Kidul during the Lebaran holidays in 2016 had dropped slightly from 362 thousand during the same period in 2015.

    Sukmono explained that until the end of December 2015, more than 2.6 million domestic and foreign tourists had visited all tourist attractions in Gunung Kidul District.

    He said the number of tourists visiting Gunung Kiduls tourist attractions last year had exceeded 2.6 million, with the total local revenue reaching Rp20.9 billion.

    The target of tourist arrivals in Gunung Kidul District in 2016 is set to be more than 2.6 million people, and the local culture and tourism office will continue to innovate to welcome tourists who will visit the district, he noted.

    The Gunung Kidul local government in Yogyakarta is making efforts to promote and develop the districts tourist spots under the framework of its tourism investment development mission, according to regional development planning board spokesman Syarief Armunanto.

    Gunung Kidul has several natural tourist attractions, such as the Ngrancah waterfall in Ngleri Village, along with the pristine beaches of Gesing, Ngrenehan, Ngobaran, and Baron, in addition to Krakal, Sunduk, Watu Lawang, Drini, and Sepanjang.

    “In 2016, we are going to build and renovate various supporting infrastructure facilities, such as souvenir shops and restaurants,” Syarief said, adding that the district had several interesting tourism villages.

    Flag carrier Garuda Indonesia filled more seats on its domestic flights during the Lebaran exodus this year, as more people chose air travel to return to their hometown for Idul Fitri.

    The state-controlled airline’s average load factor — which indicates how much an airline makes use of its seat capacity — went up to 74 percent from June 24 to July 5, a day before Idul Fitri, on all of its domestic routes, Benny S. Butarbutar, Garuda Indonesia’s vice president of corporate communication, said on Saturday (09/07).

    Benny did not give a figure for last year’s Idul Fitri holiday.

    Still, the latest figure could mark a turnaround for Garuda. The full-service airline had seen its load factor dip to 69 percent in the first three months of this year, compared to 74 percent in the same period last year, as weak economic growth forced cost-conscious travelers to opt out of the airline’s services.

    Garuda added 32,000 more seats on 132 extra flights, 112 of which are on international routes, between June 24 to July 17 to cater for Indonesians during the annual Lebaran exodus, Benny said.

    “This represents a 35 percent increase in our extra capacity from the same period last year,” Benny said.

    The National Police estimated 17.6 million people made the travel back to their hometown during the Lebaran exodus this year. Ouf of that figure, 4.6 million chose air travel, up 7.6 percent from a year ago as people’s purchasing power has increased and local airlines offer new fleets and routes.

    Air travelers met with relatively few problems during this year’s Lebaran exodus compared to their peers taking land routes, who were met by hellish traffic jams on toll roads across Java.

    Some airline companies at the Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali have started offering additional flights to handle the influx of passengers during the post-fasting Lebaran holidays.

    PT Angkasa Pura-I General Manager Trikora Harjo explained here on Tuesday that the additional flights were provided for international arrivals and departures.

    Harjo revealed that a total of 419 passengers had used additional flights for international arrivals and departures on Tuesday.

    Similar to the long Lebarang holidays in previous years, the flow of passengers at the Ngurah Rai Airport is different compared to that in other regions of Indonesia.

    The Ngurah Rai Airport is always dominated by an influx of both local and foreign tourists keen on spending the long holidays of Lebaran.

    Harjo stated that the number of departures last year had reached 119,937, while this year, it was forecast to reach 151,548.

    Referring to the growth in the percentage of domestic passengers, Harjo has estimated that the flow of departing passengers will peak during the period between six and five days before Eid.

    On June 30, six days before Eid, the number of domestic passengers departing from the Ngurah Rai Airport had reached 15,026 aboard 112 aircraft. This figure indicated a 128 percent increase compared to the previous year.

    As of July 1, five days prior to Eid, the number of domestic passengers departing from Bali was recorded at 15,771, a 105 percent rise from the year before.

    The increase in the percentage of domestic passengers was anticipated as the last working day for both public and private institutions fell on Friday, July 1.

    In this way, the travelers opted to return to their hometowns on the same day as they would get to spend more time there.

    Jakarta Fair 2016 begins June 10, will coincide with Ramadan

    The Jakarta Fair, an festival and exhibition, will be held at JIExpo Kemayoran from June 10 to July 17, coinciding with Ramadan, the fasting month and Eid.

    “Jakarta Fair coincides with fasting month and the Eid break, something that happens once every 3 years. It opens many opportunities for all the businessmen involved,” said PT JIExpo Marketing Director, Ralph Scheunemann, during a press conference in Jakarta on Monday.

    The exhibition that will be opened by President Joko Widodo has a target to attract 5 million visitors and at least Rp5 trillion in transaction value within 38 days of execution.

    Being organized under the slogan, “Lets celebrate Eid together at Jakarta Fair,” the organizers hope that the event offers an alternative to those wishing to spend their Eid holiday away from the usual tourism destinations in Jakarta.

    Even though most residents from the capital city will be going back to their hometowns during Eid, PT JIExpo organizers were confident that visitors number would not fall.

    “Only about 30 percent of the residents are expected to return home, which means approximately 5-6 million people will remain in the city from among its 9 million residents,” explained Ralph.

    Also, many people residing elsewhere are most likely to return to Jakarta.

    This year, the organizers are also preparing new rides, such as an ice skating rink, a snow playground and a vicious prison.

    The Jakarta Fair will open its doors everyday during Ramadan from 3.30 PM to 10 PM, Monday through Friday, and 10 AM to 11 PM on Saturdays and Sundays.

    Visitors will be able to enjoy the festivities at the Jakarta Fair 2016 by paying an admission fee of 20,000 rupiah on Mondays, 25,000 rupiah Tuesday through Thursday, and 30,000 rupiah Friday through Sunday and on national holidays.
