    Embassy promotes trade expo Indonesia in Senegal

    The Indonesian Embassy in Dakar, Senegal, has held a business meeting with Senegalese businessmen to promote various mainstay products and the 31st Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) to be held in Jakarta on October 12-16, 2016.

    The business meeting was attended by Senegalese businesspersons who have been doing business with their Indonesian counterparts.

    Secretary general of the Senegalese national chamber of commerce and industry Ndeye Seye, Dakar chamber of commerce and industry secretary general Aly Mboub, Poultrade CEO Washimp Obalah and Libellule CEO Gaelle Rispal attended the meeting.

    It was also attended by Senegalese businessmen in Thies who have visited the TEI organized in previous years.

    Indonesian Ambassador to Senegal Mansyur Pangeran said here on Sunday that the relations between Indonesia and Senegal, particularly in the business field, have been running well since long ago.

    However, their bilateral trade was still low, recorded at US$89.37 million only in 2015.

    The Indonesian embassy promoted various mainstay products during the meeting such as oil palm, cocoa, rubber, cinnamon and textile.

    During the meeting, Senegalese businessmen asked information regarding the types of products, prices, container transportation services, payment mechanism and sharia banks in Indonesia.

    Poultrade is interested in developing business with Indonesia for soap noodles. It is planning toimport 300-500 tons of the product from Indonesia per month.

    The ambassador said Indonesias free-visa policy was also hailed by Senegalese businesses and it is likely that more Senegalese businesses will take part in the 31st TEI.

    Indonesia introduced its range of halal products at the Moscow Halal Expo on June 2 to 5, 2016, noted a press statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Moscow, Russia.

    Indonesian halal products showcased at the expo included instant noodles, peanuts, chips, red ginger instant drink, batik, accessories, Muslim fashion, and leather bags.

    “As the largest Muslim-majority country in the world, Indonesia welcomes the trading exhibition on halal products, which is organized annually in Moscow,” Indonesian Ambassador to Russia, concurrently Belarus, M. Wahid Supriyadi stated.

    According to the ambassador, Russia, with a population of some 25 million Muslims, is a potential market for Indonesias halal products.

    Indonesia has been participating in the exhibition since 2010.

    This year, Indonesia is keen on expanding its network base and exploring cooperation with halal product industries in Russia and other countries.

    The Moscow Halal Expo is an important forum for Indonesia to introduce its halal products to Russia and the international market.

    A total of 50 companies from 10 countries, including Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, the United Arab Emirates, Tunisia, Malaysia, Greece, Japan, and Indonesia, took part in the event.

    Indonesian foods, including instant noodles, peanuts, and chips, as well as traditional beverages such as red ginger drink, sold out at the Moscow Halal Expo held at the Sokolniki Exhibition and Convention Centre, Moscow, June 2 to 5, 2016.

    The expo was officially opened by representatives of the Russian Federations Mufti Council, as organizers of the expo, the Indonesian embassy in Moscow told here on Tuesday.

    Indonesian Ambassador to Russia and Belarus Wahid Supriyadi was also present during the opening ceremony.

    Other products offered at Indonesias stand included batik dresses, batik scarfs, hijabs, accessories, and leather bags.

    Indonesia also sold “tempe” (soybean cake), fried noodles, spring rolls, “rempeyek (peanut brittle), and fried dried potatoes.

    “Russia, having a Muslim population of 25 million, is a potential market for Indonesias halal products,” Ambassador Wahid noted.

    Indonesia, whose products meet international halal standard, has participated in the annual Moscow Halal Food Expo since 2010.

    The expo included representatives from 50 companies and 10 countries, including Malaysia, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Khazakistan, Tunisia and Greece.

    In May, the Indonesian Embassy in Washington D.C. promoted the countrys foods and beverages at the “Passport DC 2016” event, which sought to promote Indonesian products in the U.S. capital, Washington DC.

    “At least 5,400 people visited the Indonesian booth. They had a very positive response, especially for our coffee products and snacks,” Trade Attache of the Indonesian embassy in Washington D.C., Reza Pahlevi, said in a press release in May.

    The strategy used for promoting Indonesian products at the expo included giving away free samples, Reza said.

    In addition, the embassy promoted fashion, accessories, batik cloth, handicrafts and home decorations from Indonesia.

    Reza further said he is seeking major super markets in the United States that could help sell Indonesian foods and beverages.

    Indonesia to promote national products at exhibition in Vietnam

    The Indonesian Embassy in Hanoi, Vietnam, will promote national products through an exhibition to be held in Ho Chi Minh City from November 30 to December 3, 2016.

    The exhibition showcasing Indonesian products will help enhance bilateral trade between Indonesia and Vietnam, targeted to reach US$ 10 billion by 2018, according to information received from the Indonesian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City. This was reported on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday.

    The Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam, Ibnu Hadi, has held a meeting with representatives of Indonesian companies operating in Vietnam, especially those located in southern Vietnam.

    The meeting was attended by 14 Indonesian companies engaged in the business of aluminum extruders, travel agents, paints, snacks, pharmaceuticals, herbal supplements, paper, investment consultant, language courses, as well as animal feed.

    At the meeting, the ambassador said the Indonesian companies could participate in the exhibition without having to pay any money.

    According to him, the Indonesian Embassy in Hanoi will bear the cost of the exhibition, which will be organized by the Vietnam National Advertising Company and Trade Fair (Vinexad). Vinexad is a state-owned enterprise under the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam.

    The exhibition of Indonesian products will be a part of the 14th Vietnam International Trade Fair. Indonesia will have a pavilion featuring 76 booths.

    The Indonesian Pavilion will showcase superior products made in Indonesia and already accepted in the Vietnamese market. A number of new products will also be marketed soon.

    The Vietnam International Trade Fair is the largest trade fair in the southern part of Vietnam.

    In 2015, a total of 450 companies from 16 countries participated in the event, including the United States, China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, Singapore, Spain and Thailand.

    Indonesia to take part in Beijing Tourism Expo

    The Indonesian government will participate in the Beijing International Tourism Expo (BITE) to be held on May 20-22 to realize its target of attracting two million Chinese tourists this year.

    The Indonesian Tourism Ministry would be one of the main sponsors of the expo, Deputy Tourism Minister in charge of International Tourism Marketing Development I Gede Pitana stated here, Friday.

    The ministry was optimistic that Indonesia would be able to attract Chinese tourists during the long holiday from October 1 to 7 this year, he noted.

    China has become Indonesias main tourist contributor, according to Tourism Minister Arief Yahya.

    Last year, some 987 participants from 81 countries took part in BITE, which was visited by some 120 thousand people.

    BITE has been organized annually for the past 13 years, and Indonesia has taken part in the expo twice.

    Other countries expected to participate in BITE this year are the United States, the Maldives, Seychelles, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Malaysia, India, and some European countries, among others.

    Indonesia has set a target of attracting 20 million foreign tourists by 2019, from 9.7 million last year.

    This year, Indonesia hopes to lure some 12 million foreign tourists.

    Indonesia International Furniture Expo Targets US$350 Million

    The Indonesian Rattan Furniture and Craft Association (AMKRI) has set a target for the 2016 Indonesia International Furniture Expo (Ifex), held in Jakarta on April 11-14, 2016 with a theme of “The Essence of Infinite Innovation”, to attract 10,000 visitors with a total transaction value of US$350 million.

    “We also set a target to achieve a follow up transaction value of US$1 billion,” AMKRI chairman Rudi Halim told us on Saturday, March 12, 2016.

    Last year, the international furniture expo managed to attract 8,595 visitors with an on-the-spot transaction value of US$270 million and a follow up transaction value of US$700 million.

    The furniture industry has an important role for the national economic growth, since the transaction value of this sector is quite significant. In 2015, Indonesia recorded US$1.902 billion in furniture exports, increasing by 1.3 percent when compared to the previous year.

    Rudi explained that the Indonesia has a huge opportunity to expand its furniture and handicraft market.

    “The global furniture market is currently valued at US$141 billion. Indonesia’s contribution to the global market value stands at US$2 billion, while Vietnam’s stands at US$6.8 billion,” Rudi added.

    The Industry Ministry recorded an increase in the value of wooden and rattan furniture exports. In 2012, the value stood at US$1.4 billion and increased to US$1.8 billion in 2013. The figure continued to rise to US$2.2 billion in 2014. The positive trend reflects optimism that the furniture export value over the next five years will worth US$5 billion.

    Indonesia promoted the Wonderful Indonesia brand at the biggest tourism exhibition in Portugal, called Bolsa Turismo de Lisboa (BTL), at the Feira Internacional de Lisboa (FIL) Lisbon.

    The event was organized by the Association of Industries of Portugal (AIP) and was opened by the Prime Minister of Portugal, Antonio Costa.

    Indonesian pavilion featured art performances and a seminar titled Dream, Explore and Discover Wonderful Indonesia. The seminar was organized by the Visit Indonesia Tourism Officer (VITO) Paris, a statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Lisbon received by ANTARA said here on Wednesday.

    This exhibition is being held regularly for the last 28. During the March 2 to 6 event, the Indonesian booth entertained about 2,000 visitors.

    Data from the Portugal Ministry of Immigration showed an increase in the number of Portuguese tourists to Indonesia, from 18,312 tourists in 2014 to at least 21,000 in 2015.

    Indonesias target is to attract through the BTL event 25,000 Portuguese tourists during 2016.

    At the BTL, Indonesia introduced 10 new destinations, namely Lake Toba (North Sumatra), Tanjung Kelayang Beach (Belitung), Seribu Islands (Jakarta), Tanjung Lesung Beach (Banten), Borobudur Temple (Central Java), Bromo-Tengger-Semeru (a volcano complex area in East Java), Mandalika (West Nusa Tenggara), Wakatobi (East Nusa Tenggara), Morotai Island (North Maluku), Labuan Bajo (East Nusa Tenggara).

    The Indonesian Ambassador to Portugal, Wirana Mulya, said the bilateral relations between the two countries are becoming ever stronger.

    The Indonesian government extends a visa-free visit policy for 30 days to the citizens of Portugal to visit Indonesia.

    The ambassador called upon stakeholders in the field of tourism to encourage Schengen visa exemption for Indonesian tourists to European countries.

    Indonesian fishery products showcased at Boston expo

    Maritime Affairs and Fishery Minister Susi Pudjiastuti hoped that the visitors and prospective buyers of fishery products at the seafood exhibition in Boston, the United States, would recognize the progressive market and potential of Indonesia.

    “With our sincere efforts to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, the people will witness a rapid growth in our fishery products,” the minister noted on the sidelines of the seafood fair held in Boston on Sunday local time.

    The minister was also optimistic of receiving valuable feedback from both the exhibitors and visitors to boost the exports of its maritime products and to garner global recognition.

    “I also hope that the Indonesian fishery businessmen would engage in fishing in a responsible manner,” Susi said, adding that the Indonesian fishery community is not only selling the products but also engaging in rightful fishing practices and not violating IUU.

    The minister also urged the Indonesian businessmen to continue developing the fishing industry in ways that are environment-friendly.

    “I see a great opportunity for the exports of Indonesian marine products, although there are still obstacles to be faced, and certainly, we can solve such problems,” she emphasized.

    Susi also gave assurance to the Indonesian maritime businessmen that curbing illegal fishing would open up a larger market, and thus, they must follow the international regulation on fishing.

    “The Indonesian fishery businessmen have been urged to follow responsible and sustainable fishing practices,” Susi remarked.

    As many as 17 fishery companies, including PT. Central Proteina Prima, Tbk, Sustainable Fisheries, Sekar Bumi, PT. Wahyu Pradana Binulia, PT Permata Marindo Jaya, and Kudatama Mas had showcased their products at the Indonesian pavilion during the seafood exhibition.
