Demand Dips: Tyrrells Crisps Vanish From Major Australian Supermarkets

Tyrrells, a British potato crisp brand, has seen a significant downsizing in its distribution in Australia. The brand, previously available in most major supermarkets in the country, has been delisted from leading chains such as Coles, Woolworths, and IGA. Its distribution has been reduced to select independent retailers across the nation.

    Major Supermarkets Stop Stocking Tyrrells

Coles has affirmed that it has ceased stocking Tyrrells’ products. Concurrently, Woolworths has labelled the brand’s range as “out of stock” on its online store. This swift and unanticipated disappearance of Tyrrells’ products from the shelves of these supermarkets has caused a stir among consumers. Numerous long-term customers have expressed their disappointment through various social media platforms. One social media user bemoaned the absence of any warning or clearance sales, lamenting that they had not been given an opportunity to stock up on the snacks.

    Insufficient Demand Leads to Delisting

Snackbrands Australia, the local manager of Tyrrells, attributes the decision to delist the brand to insufficient demand. A company spokesperson emphasised the need to balance both the desires of the consumers and the requirements of their retail partners when making challenging decisions such as these.

    Tyrrells’ Availability and History

Despite this setback, Tyrrells’ products will remain available in certain Harris Farm Markets stores. For updates on availability, customers are advised to get in touch with the consumer care team of Snackbrands.

Tyrrells, originally founded in the United Kingdom, ventured into the Australian and Asia-Pacific markets in 2016. This expansion included the establishment of manufacturing operations in Victoria, through an investment in Yarra Valley Snack Foods. Despite the recent shrinkage in its Australian distribution, Tyrrells’ products continue to be widely sold in Southeast Asia.

  • Football club PSG opens retail store in South Korea

Football club PSG opens retail store in South Korea

Football club PSG has become the first European side to open a retail outlet in Seoul, South Korea’s capital city.

The new store – which is described as a pop-up but looks rather long-term to us – was organized with local football magazine Over the Pitch. It will sell a range of branded goods, including food-and-beverage items, sports products, and entertainment, with a number of exclusive items available only at Seoul.

“Seoul has long been a key target city for Paris Saint-Germain, a core pillar of our international strategy, and so we are thrilled today to step up our commitment to the market and become the first European club to launch an official store in Korea, with this innovative retail concept,” said the club’s head of diversification and merchandising Fabien Allegre.

“Seoul and Paris go hand in hand as two iconic cities, and we enjoyed our successful collaboration with Over the Pitch during our previous PSG tour in Miami.”

The venue, which opened last week, includes the licensed store, a themed cafe, and a display of the team’s football jerseys.

  • Mario Kart Tour beta registrations open for Android users

Mario Kart Tour beta registrations open for Android users

Nintendo plans to bring yet another game to Android and iOS device this summer – Mario Kart Tour. Officially revealed two months ago, the next Mario game for mobile won’t be released until at least June.

However, Nintendo fans will have a chance to take a peek at what’s to come thanks to the closed beta program the Japanese company has just announced. Assuming you’re living in the United States or Japan, you can now register for the Mario Kart Tour closed beta on the game’s dedicated page.

Unfortunately, it’s only Android users that are allowed to register for the closed beta, and there’s little chance the iPhone owners will be given the chance to test Mario Kart Tour before the official release.

Obviously, the number of Android users who may participate in the closed beta is limited. According to Nintendo, if the number of applications exceeds the number of possible participants, the company will randomly select the participants.

Android users can register for the closed beta between April 23 and May 7, while the beta test is scheduled for May 22-June 4, but these dates can be changed prior notice.

  • Lush UK to closing down most social media accounts

Lush UK to closing down most social media accounts

Beauty and well-being retailer Lush UK will close its social media accounts this week, citing disillusionment with the algorithms and pay-to-display policies determining how they appear in their customers’ feeds.

The firm will shut down Lush UK, Lush Kitchen, Lush Times, Lush Life, Soapbox and Gorilla across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. US accounts will remain active for the time being.

Lush will instead attempt to connect with followers via its website chat feature or through more traditional means of communication, although it may still work with social media opinion leaders to provide “an opportunity for our customers to connect one-on-one with people within Lush”.

The shutdown will silence Twitter, Facebook and Instagram channels followed by hundreds of thousands of fans.

“We don’t want to limit ourselves to holding conversations in one place, we want social to be placed back in the hands of our communities – from our founders to our friends,” the firm announced.

  • Kiwis less likely to be brand “fans” than Aussies

Kiwis less likely to be brand “fans” than Aussies

Customers in New Zealand are less likely to be “fans” of brands, and are more likely to be “disappointed” by their shopping experience than customers in Australia.

This is the finding of a recent comparison of New Zealand and Australian customer insights by TruRating, a customer feedback provider that launched in New Zealand this week.

The company found that 64 per cent of Australian customers were “fans” of a brand after shopping with them. This means they gave the brand a rating of 8 or 9, which is correlated with loyalty and higher spending.

But based on data from its nine-month soft launch in New Zealand with several local retailers, including Kathmandu and Bendon, only 54 per cent of Kiwis were “fans”.

When it came to bad experiences, 18 per cent of Australian customers said they were “disappointed” and gave a business a rating of 0-3. This could impact average transaction value, TruRating said.

In comparison, 24 per cent of customers in New Zealand gave a brand such a poor rating.

The feedback company also noted a key difference in what drives customers to spend in New Zealand compared to Australia. While “overall in-store experience” was the most important factor in both countries, “product range” was the second-most important factor in New Zealand, while “service” was second-most important in Australia.

“In Australia, customers are happiest on weekday mornings, and in New Zealand, Wednesday is the happiest day for shoppers,” TruRating said.

“In general, New Zealand customers are least happy with their experience on Sundays, which is unfortunate as they are likely to spend more on this day.”
