    GEOX Launches Men’s Footwear Collection Autumn/Winter 2016-2017

Well-being is the first and foremost inspiration behind the new GEOX winter season, where technological development always reflects the tastes and trends of contemporary design. The breathing shoe becomes a “Comfort Cool” accessory combining creativity, lightness and flexibility, to make life easier and distinguish every step in its functionality and appearance, quality and style, in all weather conditions and anywhere, from the city streets to outdoor activities.

    Comfort is cool

The unmistakable breathability, heat-regulation, waterproofing, resistance and seal guaranteed by the continual innovation of the GEOX membrane and sole amplify the value of the patents, with a focus on the design and the patterns, the materials and details and the colour and material combinations, combining elegance, versatility and refinement with the philosophy of easy walking.

The principles of uniqueness and top performance every single day are behind the extensive development of the SNEAKERS, designed for a wide variety of uses and ideal for the most casual and carefree looks: from the slim-runners in wax-coated technical fabrics to the city-active lines combining mesh with leather. Manufactured with the ultra-light EVA soles, guaranteeing an extra-cushioning and ultra-flexible effect, which is amplified by the flex grooves on the sole and the shaped rubber tread, ensuring an optimal grip on all surfaces.

NEBULA, in contrast, is an all-season model, characterised by the iconic ergonomic slip-on shape, which reconfirms the primary values of a dynamic fit and freedom of movement, in a classier shoe, designed and manufactured for walking anywhere in the world. A symbol of GEOX excellence, combining the Inner Breathing System and the 3D Performance Unit: wider openings at critical points of the sole are combined with the structure calibrated to the natural points of contact of the foot, enhancing breathability, flexibility, lightness and stability. They are available in both casual shades and the contrasting colour-blocks of the fluorescent or camouflage soles, and the clean and essential silhouettes have easy-entry and totally water-repellent uppers, in technical fabric and soft suede, with totally hidden stitching.

The water, wind and damp proof AMPHIBIOX technology continues to be a cornerstone in the Fall/Winter season. Totally, waterproof and really comfortable. The rubber soles include the peerless Amphibiox technology which will keep rain, wind, snow and dampness at bay: the breathable and waterproof inner membrane protects both sole and upper, stopping water from getting inside the shoes whilst ensuring amazing breathability – meaning your stay feet warm and dry and can breathe naturally.

Lastly, the CUOIO patent revolutionises the elegant footwear of the modern gentleman looking for totally waterproof models: the breathing membrane is combined with the leather sole, allowing damp to pass from the inside outwards and ensuring the foot is always completely dry. A combination of a “new classic” spirit and an “old-school” refinement, the authentic Made in Italy style is extremely sophisticated and attractive, as represented by the formal range in vintage feel.

    GEOX Launches Women’s Footwear Collection Autumn/Winter 2016-2017

A breath of air is a source of life – a line where well-being starts and a symbol of sublime beauty and perfect function. Research and technology are stalwart companions in what Geox does.

Geox’s “cool comfort” range fuses creativity, lightness and flexibility – be it for urban days, classical events, sporty afternoons or glamorous evenings.

With the upcoming Winter season, the traditional qualities of breathability, thermo-regulation and water-tightness are bonded into Geox’s vanguard membrane and soles — further enhanced by the German TÜV SÜD FOOTWEAR MARK: that vouches for a rigorous control procedure on quality during production. The aim is to ensure harmful substances are not released during production. A mark of quality assurance is only right given Geox’s unflagging attention to standards and commitment towards society and the environment.

One of these models is Sfinge, engineered with a hive of spaces which exalts its springiness, grip and cushioning sole. Featuring 3D breathable technology and Inner Breathing Lining, it caters for a female desire for finesse with its eclectic mix of leather, suede and patent finishes, available in both total black version and in a colour-block version featuring cornflower blue, pillarbox red and metallic gold.

Fall/Winter features ankle boots customised with special embossed details which add dimension to the black leather. Waterproof, lightweight, easy to slip on and comfortable, these shoes have a modern and pared-back look. The rubber soles include the Amphibiox technology which keeps wet weather conditions at bay: the breathable and waterproof inner membrane protects both sole and upper, stopping water from getting inside the shoes whilst ensuring amazing breathability – meaning your feet stay warm, dry and breathe naturally.

Walking shoes couldn’t get better than this whether to tackle old- town cobblestones or moss-covered boulders. Nebula continues to amaze as it slips into new skins crossing boundaries and seasons on a carpet of clouds: the fabric and suede, both smooth and with quilt-stitching, feature a colour palette spanning from light dusty pink, teal and grey all designed to match the original colour contrast of the soles. Boasting Geox outstanding patents in one shoe, Nebula fuses the Inner Breathing System, Net Breathing System and an inner EVA sole with strategically placed soft rubber inlays to ensure added grip and stability. Easy to slip on and with elastic laces, its natural heat-balancing properties, lightness, flexibility and cushioning effect fuse effortlessly with the hi-tech design.

One hot comeback is the good old moccasin, revisited in a modern-chic version, available in a wide range including pearly patent leather, brushed leather or crocodile print models as well as a preppy style with metal horsebits. Geox’s iconic loafers for men and women are crafted in the softest black and burgundy leather, with an ultralight, flexible rubber sole, these loafers combine the practicality of breathability with an upbeat urban feel.

Last, the spotlight turns on a fashion-statement collection which includes boots, ankle boots, pumps, ballerina flats with tapered toes — all capturing the essence of the latest trends on the pret-a-porter catwalks. For the more sophisticated versions, the material mixture, such as smooth and laminated leather, creates eye-catching patterns of black & gold, lit up with small metallic buckle details. Fitted with inner memory foam soles, they are super soft, lightweight and flexible, specially designed for formal daytime looks or more glamorous evening engagements.

  • Takashimaya Vietnam opens doors

    Takashimaya Vietnam opens doors

Three years after the Japanese luxury department store chain announced plans to enter Saigon, Takashimaya Vietnam opened its doors at the weekend.

As the anchor tenant of  downtown Ho Chi Minh City’s Saigon Center, Takashimaya takes up a whole five floors making it by far the nation’s largest department store – and likely its most expensive.

The first impression that the department store makes is its spacious interior. Concessions to brands have been arranged to leave unusually wide aisles – ensuring the store was comfortable even on its crowded grand opening day.

The first floor of Takashimaya houses the food maison, most of which is filled by Japanese F&B brands such as Minamoto Kitchoan, Gyumaru, Azabu Sabo, Yamazaki and Suizan. Some tea brands make their way into that space, including Vietnam’s own Phuc Long, Singapore’s TWG tea, and B Tea.

Targeting the high class consumers in Saigon and Vietnam, Takashimaya has chosen carefully the brands to appear in their stores, including luxury brands coming to Vietnam the first time, complemented by the high level of customer service Takashimaya offers elsewhere in the world.

The second floor is exclusively for ladies with international fashion names such as Banana Republic, Bebe, Bonia, Braun Buffel; footwear from Clarks, Geox, Cole Haan; bags from Carlo Rino, Cromia; and Furla with its first flagship in Vietnam after years being distributed by Ha Vang company.

The rest space is occupied by cosmetics brands, including Korean labels Skinfood, which marked the store’s opening with a special event ‘Makeup Style for Your Summer’.

“We offer free makeup and manicure for our customers for two days. Besides, when they buy our products, they will receive a gift set,” said Kieu Oanh, senior PR & marketing executive of Skinfood Vietnam.

For women, the excitement continues on the next level of Takashimaya: a heaven of luxury cosmetics, jewelleries and fragrances. Christian Dior is prominently located at the front, with rival Lancome opposite. Lancome also opened its own ‘Lancome Cafe’ – a style boutique, where women can take free makeup lessons and receive gifts for the best ‘artwork’.

Other brands include Bobbi Brown, Shiseido, Estee Lauder, Swarovski, and Mac.

    Coming soon: Kate Spade.

The last level of Takashimaya is filled with men’s fashion and casual wear and children’s clothing and toys. Tommy Hilfiger has the largest outlet here, opposite the first authentic Fred Perry store.

With more than 180 years of experience and US$290 million investment, it is expected that Takashimaya will not only take Vietnamese shopping to a higher level but also mark a turning point for economic development and quality retail in Vietnam.

  • Geox plans 350 China stores with Hong Kong partner

Geox plans 350 China stores with Hong Kong partner

Italian shoemaker Geox has signed a distribution agreement with Hong Kong listed Pou Sheng International to set up 350 stores in Mainland China by 2020.

The two companies will target China’s rising middle class – 109 million newly affluent, quality-conscious and brand-happy Chinese consumers.

Geox is one of the leading brands worldwide in the lifestyle footwear market, listed on the  Milan stock exchange and Pou Sheng is one of the leading retailers in China in the lifestyle and sportswear market, retailing brands such as Converse, Rockport and Keds with 4586 retail outlets and another 2691 sub-distributors across China.

The Geox agreement includes the exclusive distribution of Geox adult collections in China and the opening of 350 new stores in the first five years – including mono brand stores and  shops-in-shops in high end footwear specialist retailers, shopping malls and department stores.

Mario Moretti Polegato, chairman and founder of Geox, said the strategic agreement is aimed at “developing properly our brand distribution in China where, in our directly operated stores in Shanghai and Beijing, Geox has already demonstrated to have strong potential”.

“I believe the partnership with Pou Sheng is extremely relevant as it merges the Geox mission of improving everyday life of our endorsers, through our breathable innovations, with a partner whose enlightened mission is providing services and products that promote high quality of living and healthy lives and whose goal is to be the customer’s number one choice and the brand’s best partner in China through the strongest and most innovative multichannel retail network”.

Geox CEO Giorgio Presca describes China’s emerging middle class as “definitely the best thing” that could have happened to his company.

“On one hand, the rise of the middle class will boost the economy. On the other, it is the perfect thing for brands like us.”

Geox is already expecting same-store sales growth in China of 17 per cent or more this year – its highest growth rate globally. But China still comprises just two per cent of its total sales.

  • Restaurant operators regain a presence in Hong Kong

Restaurant operators regain a presence in Hong Kong

Restaurant operators have regained their presence in Hong Kong’s retail market where an increasing number of top-end retailers have surrendered their spaces in the wake of weakening spending on luxury items and a decline in tourist arrivals.

JLL said that in 2013 food and beverage operators accounted for only 29 per cent of the leasing deals it handled. This year, that figure has increased to more than 50 per cent.

“There are in discussions with a number of overseas restaurants to open their first outlets in Hong Kong as part of their their Asian expansion plans,” said Michelle Chiu, an associate director at JLL’s retail department. “They come from the United States, Europe and Southeast Asia.”

A new trend of incorporating food and beverage elements into their retail businesses has been seen among luxury fashion brands, including Franck Muller and Vivienne Westwood. And then, there is the lifestyle concept, such as the collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and Maximal Concepts, which has led to the creation of Mercedes Me.

At more than 4,000 square feet, Mercedes Me has taken the space formerly occupied by Porsche Design and Geox on the ground floor of Entertainment Building in Central at an estimated monthly rental of HK$4 million. Meanwhile, Vivienne Westwood opened its first cafe in Tsim Sha Tsui and Swiss luxury watch maker Frank Muller has launched a fine-dining restaurant in Causeway Bay.

To capture growing leasing demand among restaurants, JLL has formed a seasoned food and beverage team to cater for the industry.

Terence Chan, head of retail at JLL, said the team will offer specialist services to local operators, international restaurant groups and new-to-market entrepreneurs alike.

“Apart from the traditional F&B agency services including site introduction, lease negotiation, location analysis, tenant representation and market entry strategy and analysis, we also provide project coordination services. We will assist the clients in liaising with the interior designers, licensing consultants, contractors and maintenance vendors for set-up of their restaurants,” Chan said.

Helen Mak, the retail services group head at Colliers International, believes the softening retail leasing market will provide more opportunities for the return of restaurants given the high rents the international brands could afford to pay just a few years ago.

“With a restaurant inside the shop, it will also help to retain customers inside longer as well as serving as a venue for promotional events,” Mak said.

She said shopping centres intend to allocate more space for restaurants in view of the difficult retail market.

But the rapid expansion of restaurants could increase direct competition as most shopping centres plan to devote more space for food and beverage operators.
