    Gordon Ramsay to open first restaurant in Malaysia

    Multi-Michelin starred chef Gordon Ramsay is to open Malaysia’s first Bar & Grill concept in Kuala Lumpur this year.

    Located at Sunway Resort in Selangor, Bar & Grill will feature a varied all-day menu, including Gordon Ramsay’s signature dishes such as Beef Wellington and Sticky Toffee Pudding. The restaurant is scheduled to launch this June.

    Featuring contemporary interiors, the restaurant design will “create an inviting ambiance, with floor-to-ceiling windows framing views of the lagoon, and a private dining room, setting the stage for intimate events,” Sunway Resort KL said on its website.

    The restaurant will also mark the brand’s first outpost outside the original Mayfair outlet.

    Gordon Ramsay, who holds seven Michelin stars, has a collection of acclaimed restaurants in the UK, Europe, and the US. He is also the star of popular shows such as Kitchen Nightmares, Hell’s Kitchen, and MasterChef US.

    This marks as The Habit’s second international expansion with eight restaurants open in China today. This is just the beginning, The Habit is partnering with Kampuchea Tela Company, LTD to develop and operate restaurants throughout the Kingdom of Cambodia.

    In anticipation of The Habit’s grand opening, local guests are invited for an exclusive sneak peek of the menu. The first 200 guests per event on October 16 and 17th between 11:30a.m. – 1:30p.m. and 5 p.m. – 7p.m will receive a complimentary Charburger, French fries, and drink. Upon opening, this two-story location will offer dine-in and takeout.

    Yum! Brands has bought California-based The Habit Burger Grill, adding its first fast-casual burger chain to its portfolio which already includes KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell

    The company says it has bought all of The Habit Burger Grill’s issued and outstanding common shares in a deal worth US$375 million.

    “The Habit Burger Grill is a sweet spot within fast-casual because of its delicious California-inspired menu with premium ingredients at a QSR-like value, strong unit economics and tremendous untapped growth potential in the US and internationally,” said David Gibbs, CEO of Yum! Brands.

    As a subsidiary of Yum! Brands, The Habit Burger Grill will continue to be run as an independent brand, the company said in a statement.

    President and CEO of The Habit Burger Grill, Russell Bendel, said, being part of Yum! will take The Habit Burger Grill to the next level by leveraging Yum!’s global scale, resources, and franchising capabilities to strengthen and significantly grow our beloved brand for many years to come.”

    Founded in California in 1969, fast-casual restaurant concept The Habit Burger Grill operates about 300 restaurants across 13 states in the US.

    Fruitas to launch grilled chicken, fresh foods concepts

    Philippine food-and-beverage kiosk operator Fruitas Holdings will soon launch two new concepts in addition to their popular fresh-fruit shakes concept.

    The first is a store concept under Babot’s Farm brand, while the second represents Fruitas Holdings’ new forway into the fast-growing grilled chicken market segment.

    “Babot’s Farm is a collection of fresh products which Fruitas is excited to serve to Filipino consumers. Our mission is to make fresh products easily accessible to Filipinos, thus bringing the farm closer to them,” said FHI president and CEO Lester Yu.

    Babot’s Farm will initially have three verticals of fresh products in its own portfolio,

    including the company’s buko beverage line, a new soy range under Soy & Bean, featuring products from its recent acquisition, The Tofu Store, and fresh dairy.

    Soy & Bean’s soy-based products will initially include fresh soy milk, tofu, taho, and soy-based ice cream.

    Meanwhile, Fruitas’ grilled-chicken business will be offered through its existing kiosk network along with new solus stores to be opened in strategic locations. The firm will leverage off its recently acquired Heat Stroke Grill and Kuxina Ihaw na.

    Yu said the company is excited about its impending entry into the chicken business and confident it can do so in a cost-effective manner and develop a “well-loved product”.

    Fruitas Holdings started in 2002 from a single Fruitas stall. The company ended last year with 1068 stores across the country.

    American grill bar & pancake chain Applebee’s will launch its first Indian location in Bengaluru this year.

    The brand will be established in the territory via a partnership with local operator Dine Brands International.

    “India is an important growth market for us,” said Dine Brands president – international Steve Joyce. “As one of the world’s fastest-growing economies, India represents an opportunity for Applebee’s and we think Indian guests will love our local as well as Western tastes, hand-made to order menu items and signature cocktail bar.”

    “We are the newest Applebee’s international franchisee and will introduce their food and beverage to India,” said Dine Brands international franchisees CEO Rohit Malhotra.

    The firm is expected to open another nine Applebee’s restaurants over a seven-year period.

    Chili’s Grill & Bar Vietnam launches in Ho Chi Minh City

    US chain Chili’s Grill & Bar has opened its first restaurant in Vietnam in partnership with local food-franchise operator Golden Gate Restaurant Group.

    Located at SC VivoCity mall in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 7, the new restaurant is the 1700th Chili’s outlet worldwide. The restaurant offers the same dishes as other Chili’s outlets internationally, following the original restaurant-bar concept inspired by Mexican & Texas cuisines.

    According to a spokesperson, the restaurant will target “middle-income customers”.

    Chili’s Grill & Bar Vietnam representative, David Weston, considers the country a key market in Asia as many international chains has chosen the country to make their regional debut.

    Founded in 2005, Golden Gate Restaurant Group now operates more than 20 restaurant chains across the country, including Cowboy Jack’s, Hutong, Manwah and Osaka Ohsho.

    Founded in Dallas, texas, in 1975, Chili’s is now owned by US-listed Brinker International restaurant group, and operates in 33 countries worldwide.

    Weber Singapore will open a new store at No 4, Sixth Avenue.

    The US-based barbecue brand’s new store will showcase the full range of Weber’s cooking products including gas-, charcoal- and electric-powered grills.

    “Weber aims to create succulent moments that draw family and friends closer together through great food, grilling fun and unforgettable memories,” says Steven Lim, VP and MD for North and Southeast Asia of Weber-Stephen.

    Weber has also launched the first Grill Academy in Singapore and South East Asia at the Joo Chiat Weber Store, adding to more than 100 Grill Academies in the world.

    The academy allows people to get hands-on grill demonstrations and an opportunity to practice with Weber’s gas grills and charcoal grills in a three-hour Weber Essential Course.

    Weber grills are sold in more than 72 countries, including a recent expansion into Asia via India, China, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan and Singapore.

    Chili’s Singapore closing Down

    American grill & bar Chili’s Singapore has quietly closed all three remaining outlets in the city.

    ““As of 24th March, we have closed all of our restaurants in Singapore. It’s been a wonderful 10 years serving our loyal community. Thank you for all the great moments and memories we shared,” the company posted on Facebook.

    A fan responded: “We are thankful for the past 10 years that they have been with us and for all the burgers, steak and fajitas they’ve served us.”

    Chili’s opened its first branch in Singapore in Tanglin Mall in June 2009. The other three outlets were at Resorts World Sentosa, Clarke Quay Central and JCube.

    The restaurants served Southwest American cuisine with Mexican flavours, craft burgers and baby back ribs, alongside fajitas and enchiladas.

    Established in Dallas in 1975, Chili’s had expanded to 32 countries worldwide.
