Samsung to target young market via Samsung Digital Plaza

Aiming at a young demographic, the Samsung Digital Plaza has been reimagined for its launch in Yongin City, Korea.

On the ground floor of a metal-covered three-storey building, the 1255sqm store offers its goods in a context that echoes the home. The electronics giant engaged Seoul architecture practice Betwin Space Design to create the venue’s façade and interior.

One of the display zones features audio devices by Harman, a company that became a Samsung division early last year. Samsung displays its TVs in a zone designed like a living room complete with sofas.

Aiming at occupiers of single-person flats, the compact premium zone presents special products in a setting that reflects modern living styles in Korea, says Samsung.

There is also a cafe in the middle of the store.

Samsung begins official distribution of Harman products

Samsung Electronics will start selling Harman International’s consumer audio products from Tuesday through its local distribution channels, the company announced Monday.

It is the first official business move since the South Korean tech titan completed its acquisition of the 70-year-old US-based audio system manufacturer for $8 billion in March.

Samsung will officially release 40 speaker, earphone and headphone products under the Harman Kardon, JBL and AKG brands that represent strong audio systems through 30 Samsung Digital Plaza shops across the country, with a plan to gradually expand the distribution points.

Within the year, Samsung plans to open exclusive Harman shops at multipurpose malls, providing consumers with better experiences of enjoying sound.

Harman products have been sold here through Harman Korea with limited distribution channels that are now to be expanded through Samsung.

After-sales services for the Harman products will be available through Samsung’s service centers nationwide, the company said.

Samsung took over Harman that is also specialized in automotive electronics with an aim to expand into the transportation, retail, hospitality and education industries.

While keeping Harman’s operations separately, Samsung said the two will team up for new projects in the aforementioned areas whenever necessary. On July 13, the two announced a collaborative theater project adopting Samsung’s light-emitting diode technology for cinema together with Harman’s JBL speakers at Lotte Cinema World Tower in Jamsil, southern Seoul.

Its sister store, the TCL O2O flagship store was also set up the same day. TCL Corporation’s Chairman Li Dongsheng and Harman International’s Chairman Dinesh Paliwal attended the ceremony together, representing the start of a comprehensive partnership between the two corporations.

Harman develops and produces professional audio electronic products and infotainment systems for various markets, ranging from auto markets, consumer markets, to professional audio markets. Over the past few years, Harman has already established a strong partnership with TCL Corporation, a global manufacturer of smart products and provider of internet application services. With the firm presence in TV and communications industries for years, TCL Corporation was the first TV manufacturer of China to engage in an all-round brand collaboration with Harman Kardon, a noted section of Harman International.

The comprehensive partnership between TCL and Harman is mainly in the form of retail collaboration and product collaboration. Harman plans to create an online flagship store bearing its name on TCL’s e-commerce platform and identify TCL as its only e-commerce partner. Harman will also provide on-site product supports in 100 high-quality TCL stores. And in terms of product collaboration, Harman will provide diversified product customization services for TCL products.

According to Li Dongsheng, the two corporations had always maintained a deep collaboration, with substantial progress being made between Harman and TCL’s four business areas including TV, cellphone, Tonly OEM, and O2O
