UNIQLO x ALEXANDER WANG Collection to be launced on November 9

UNIQLO announced that it will launch the new UNIQLO and ALEXANDER WANG collaboration line in 20 countries and regions around the world on 9 November. In Singapore, the collection will first launch online at UNIQLO.com on 8 November and it will be available in stores from 9 November. The full range will be available at UNIQLO Orchard Central Global Flagship Store and through UNIQLO.com. Selected items will be available at all UNIQLO stores. The range takes the UNIQLO HEATTECH concept of enjoying light and fashionable dressing even in cold seasons and expresses it with new ideas, creating LifeWear that presents HEATTECH as more stylish wear.

Two images from the launch campaign Warmth Reimagined depict products in an ice block. The metaphorical visual aims to express the thought that HEATTECH transcends the cold and is warm enough to melt away the ice it is encased in. The campaign speaks to the idea that, even though these items are technically ‘innerwear,’ they may be worn as ‘outerwear’ or as visible layers. There is no reason to hide these beautiful, warming garments. Hence Warmth Reimagined.

The new collection of HEATTECH and HEATTECH Extra Warm items comprises fashionable innerwear with the original functionality of HEATTECH, allowing the wearer to be warm and stylish even in cold seasons. The silhouettes are sharp and slim overall, while the women’s tank top features a unique back design and can be styled with other pieces from the collection. HEATTECH underwear is available in both men’s and women’s lines for the first time. The men’s items include both briefs and boxers, while the women’s range has a bra and shorts. The waist is adorned with a logo, a design element for wearers to casually show.

The collaboration line includes a range of colours from Alexander Wang’s classic black to neon green. The line also incorporates neo-futuristic elements and sporty styling, such as glossy rib materials reminiscent of 80s fashion. The visual presentation of the comfortable, bias weave fabric is another characteristic of this collection. The fabric itself uniquely changes with body movement, with V-shaped patterns appearing on the surface.

UNIQLO and Alexander Wang Collection Launched

UNIQLO announced a new collaboration with top New York fashion designer Alexander Wang. The line brings Alexander Wang’s signature design and styling to UNIQLO’s HEATTECH functional apparel – LifeWear that has kept people warm and comfortable in winter since its debut in 2003.

About the new collection, Alexander Wang said, “When I look into expanding into additional categories, I seek out partners that really can innovate the product we make and how our fans can access it. UNIQLO are the ideal partners for this collection of innerwear because we share an appreciation of functionality and utilitarianism, and I am thrilled our collaboration has resulted in developing a new HEATTECH line; the perfect place to pick up from where we left off ten years ago.”

Yuki Katsuta, Group Senior Vice President of Fast Retailing and Head of UNIQLO R&D, commented, “Alexander first collaborated with UNIQLO ten years ago on the UNIQLO Designers Invitation Project. At the time he greatly impressed me with his ability to identify trends. I hope that consumers can enjoy this new dimension in HEATTECH, which takes our long-selling line beyond its innerwear origins by augmenting its functionality with Alexander’s inspiring design.”

  • Differentiation can make or break Singapore brands as competition heats up

Differentiation can make or break Singapore brands as competition heats up

Consumers are hungry for novelty, innovation.

Tight competition online and a tough operating environment have pushed many offline retailers—especially in the footwear and apparel sub-sectors—to downsize or flee Singapore.

However, RHB noted in a report that brands that are able to spin unique selling point will weather the sector headwinds well, as consumers continue to be attracted to novelty and differentiated experience.

“H&M, for instance, has numerous sub-collections each year to refresh its inventories. It also rolls out special collections each year, which are tie-ups with famous brands’ designers or style icons… Uniqlo, on the other hand, is known for its product innovation including HeatTech and AIRism technologies catered specially for cold and warm weather, respectively,” RHB stated.

Meanwhile, BreadTalk comes out on top in terms of product innovation and willingness to experiment.

“BreadTalk launched a new bakery concept every four years to maintain a fresh brand image. It also rolled out 50 new products along with its latest concept launch,” RHB noted.

“Furthermore, the group is also up to date in using technology to engage customers. It is planning to build a new integrated system that allows the public to view its kitchen baking processes on external screens. The new system will also allow consumers to get alerts when new buns are up on the shelves,” it added.

  • Uniqlo Thailand launching online store

    Uniqlo Thailand launching online store

Japan’s global fashion label Uniqlo Thailand is launching an online store, offering its full Thai range.

The online store will help strengthen the firm’s “made for all” brand promise, says Uniqlo Thailand marketing and PR director/head of eCommerce Chanvit Khieonavavongsa.

After nearly five years in Thailand, Uniqlo has 32 branches in nine provinces, covering about a third of the population. The eCommerce channel will meet the demand from customers in areas where the brand does not have an outlet.

Exclusive to the Thai online store, Uniqlo will offer a cash-on-delivery service to cater for consumers who are still not confident about using credit cards for online transactions.

Chanvit says the online channel will not affect Uniqlo’s expansion in the kingdom.

“As long as there are good locations and customers, we will open a store,” he says. “There is no intention of reducing the opening of branches.”

Two branches opened in the first half of this year, with two more to follow in September, at Blu Port in Hua Hin and at the Mall Korat.

The online store is the brand’s 12th worldwide, with similar stores launching in Singapore in 2014 and in Malaysia last year.

Uniqlo has assigned Singapore Post to handle logistics and deliveries for online orders, with guaranteed nationwide delivery of between one and three days. There is no delivery fee, while the packaging charge is waived for orders of Bt1500 (US43) or more. Customers have 30 days to return their goods to the company if they are not satisfied.

Scheduled to go live on Friday, the online store will offer exclusive items and collections such as Kaws companion t-shirts and the HeatTech line of thermal wear. The mark the launch, there will also be special prices for popular items.

Chanvit says the eCommerce expansion is part of Uniqlo’s global target to have 30 per cent of its sales derived from the online channel by 2020. The brand has already built awareness online in Thailand through Line, where it has 12 million subscribers, and Facebook, where it has had more than 1 million likes. Further awareness will be built through an integrated marketing communication plan across offline and online channels nationwide.

    Uniqlo strengthens Toray partnership

The partnership which pioneered Heattech and Airism garments have forged a new expanded relationship they say will create “a new industry for the future”.

Fast Retailing’s flagship Uniqlo and Toray Industries first joined hands 10 years ago aimed at developing technological solutions to make clothing functional rather than just practical – and provide the Japanese fashion giant with a point of difference over fast fashion rivals.

Uniqlo’s signature Airism garments are meant to be worn beneath any ensemble to keep you cool and dry, making heat and humidity more bearable with properties such as absorbency, breathability and odour control. Heattech garments come with features designed to make it the most comfortable innerwear, including sweat-wicking, quick-drying, anti-odour and anti-static features.

The most recent seasonal Heattech lines contain camellia oil moisturiser to keep the wearer’s skin soft and supple in dry weather.

In the new five year third stage of their working partnership, Uniqlo and Toray will work together to:

Accelerate globalisation and digitalisation to create a new industry by:

    • Realising an end-to-end business model by utilising the Internet of Things (IoT).
    • Further reducing production lead time.
    • Further increasing globalisation of production sites and locations.
    • Optimising production in each location.
    • Expanding production sites to support business growth in Greater China (China, Hong Kong and Taiwan).

Maximise LifeWear that is made for all by:

    • Improving comfort and functionality of all current products.
    • Adding value to products by conducting research and development.
    • Developing new sportswear to enhance daily lives.
