    Toyota stops selling Hilux truck in Vietnam over fuel quality

    Toyota has called a halt to the import of its 2022 Hilux pickup into Vietnam over a lack of diesel supply meeting Euro 5 standards.

    Using low-quality diesel could damage the Hilux’s engine, and supply of Euro 5 diesel (DO-V) outside Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi is limited, a spokesperson for the Japanese automaker said.

    It is unclear when Toyota plans to sell the vehicle again.

    Many dealers have stopped accepting deposits for the truck, while some have scheduled delivery for the beginning of 2023.

    In the first five months only 10 units were sold, all 2021 models with engines that only meet Euro 4 standards.

    The Hilux is imported from Thailand.

    There are around 1,100 gas stations, or only 6.5 percent of the total number, that supply DO-V in Vietnam, according to the Vietnam Petroleum Association.

    In 2011 the government had instructed that by 2022 all vehicles assembled in and imported into Vietnam must meet the Level 5 emission standards (equivalent to the Euro 5 standards).

    Toyota recalls Hilux trucks for brake problem

    Toyota will recall 1,935 imported Hilux trucks due to a safety issue related to their brake system.

    The batch was produced in Thailand between June and December 2018 and imported by Toyota Vietnam.

    The company said the problem has occurred due to a degrading of the resin piston within the brake booster due to improper molding.

    “If this were to occur, repeated operation of the brake pedal may cause the piston to break, potentially causing loss of braking assist and therefore increasing the vehicle stopping distance,” it said in a statement.

    Toyota will coordinate with its dealers to recall, inspect and replace the brake booster free of charge. The replacement will take between half an hour and four and a half hours.

    According to Toyota Vietnam, the recall will begin on March 5 and last three years.

    In the case of Hilux not imported by the company, it will obtain approval from its parent in Japan before carrying out the replacement.

    Toyota facelifts Hilux Revo pickup for 2018

    Brand’s bread-winning workhorse gets a more aggressive-looking face and a new style-led model called Rocco to rival the Ford Ranger Wildtrak and Isuzu D-Max X-Series.

    Toyota Motor Thailand has released the first pictures and details of the facelifted Hilux Revo ahead of its public debut at the year-ending 2017 Motor Expo.

    Featuring in the single- and double-cab models is a new face with a prominent grille to bring the Hilux Revo in line with the US-only Tacoma pickup. The meek looks of the pre-facelift Hilux Revo is alleged to have received a tepid reception from the pickup market.

    And for the first time, Toyota has introduced a new style-led range-topper called Rocco to rival the Ford Ranger Wildtrak and Isuzu D-Max X-Series.

    Available for both single- and double-cab variants, the Rocco features an even sportier grille with plenty of black accents around the vehicle. Other key exterior features are 18-inch alloys shod with 265/60 R18 all-terrain tyres and a sports bar in the cargo bed. The interior also gets the black colour treatment along with leather appointments here and there.

    The 150hp 2.4-litre and 177hp 2.8-litre diesel-turbo engines, plus 166hp 2.7-litre petrol unit, remain unchanged. The same goes for the six-speed manual and automatic transmission.

    As for the Rocco, only the 2.8-litre diesel is available either with manual or automatic and 2WD or 4WD. Depending on body style and transmission, the Rocco is priced between 1.129-1.199 million baht. While the regular single-cab sees prices starting from 572,000 baht, the double-cab kicks out at 672,000 baht.
