Connoisseur Debuts Italian-inspired Gelato Line With Pistachio And Almond Biscotti Flavours

Connoisseur, a well-known ice cream manufacturer, has debuted its new line of Italian-influenced gelato. The range currently includes two flavours: Pistachio and Almond Biscotti, offered in different formats.

    Pistachio and Almond Biscotti Flavours

The Pistachio gelato is available in a one-litre tub. In contrast, the Almond Biscotti gelato, fashioned into stick form, is retailed in packs of four. Both these flavours can be found in a variety of retailers, including Coles and Woolworths, and are priced from $12.

    Inspiration Behind the Flavours

Vanessa Mason, brand manager of Connoisseur, explained that the new offerings were designed with a bold, innovative approach and an eye towards the latest in flavour trends. The Pistachio and Almond Biscotti creations are a nod to the concept of La Dolce Vita, appreciating life’s simple pleasures and the joy in taking things slowly.

The Pistachio flavour’s release was inspired by the recent surge in popularity of pistachio-themed content on social media. The Almond Biscotti gelato stick, on the other hand, was influenced by the traditional Italian dessert.

  • Cookie Dough range can be baked or eaten raw

Cookie Dough range can be baked or eaten raw

Snacking on raw cookie dough is a lot like watching reality TV: You know it’s bad for you, you know other people will judge you if you admit to it, but it just feels so good. Well, if you’re someone who likes munching on break-and-bake cookie dough while bingeing Love Is Blind (that sounds AMAZING right now), I have great news for you. Pillsbury has been swapping out its traditional cookie dough recipe for dough that you can safely eat raw!

We first spotted this news on the Instagram @Candyhunting, who posted a photo of some new packaging that boasted Pillsbury Chocolate Chunk & Chip cookie dough was safe to eat raw or baked.

This content is imported from Instagram. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Not only that, Candyhunting said that this would soon be the case for ALL Pillsbury cookie dough thanks to using “heat-treated flour and pasteurized eggs to kill off possible foodborne pathogens.”

That might sound way too good to be true, but it is, in fact, true! Pillsbury confirmed to Delish that it is transitioning all its refrigerated cookie doughs to be safe to eat raw or baked by the end of summer 2020. Not only that, but also all of its refrigerated brownie dough will be safe to eat raw or baked too!

They also clarified that this recipe will just be tweaked to use ingredients to make it safe to be eaten raw—it will still taste like the classic cookies you know and love.

If you follow the world of food closely though, you might know that it can take a while for products to be swapped in though, so for now and always, you should be checking to make sure you see the “safe to eat raw” seal on packaging before going to town. If you see that though, well, fire up The Bachelor and get to snacking!

  • Ben & Jerry’s wades into Palestine controversy unexpected

Ben & Jerry’s wades into Palestine controversy unexpected

Ben & Jerry’s has said it will stop selling its ice cream in Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem. The US company said sales “in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT)” were “inconsistent with our values”. Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said the move was “morally wrong” and would prove to be “financially wrong”.

The West Bank and East Jerusalem have been under Israeli control since the 1967 Middle East war.

More than 600,000 Jews live in about 140 settlements there. Most of the international community considers the settlements illegal under international law, though Israel disputes this.

“We have a longstanding partnership with our licensee, who manufactures Ben & Jerry’s ice cream in Israel and distributes it in the region,” the statement said.

“We have been working to change this, and so we have informed our licensee that we will not renew the license agreement when it expires at the end of next year.”

Ben & Jerry’s also runs two “scoop shops” in Israel and said it would distribute its goods in Israel through a different agreement, the details of which would be announced “when we’re ready”.

UK firm Unilever, which has owned Ben & Jerry’s since 2000, says the decision was taken and announced by Ben & Jerry’s and its independent board, but it remained “fully committed” to maintaining a presence in Israel.

Ben & Jerry’s Israeli licensee was quoted by the Haaretz newspaper as saying: “Global Ben & Jerry’s decided not to renew the agreement with us in another year and a half in light of our refusal [to comply] with their demand and stop selling throughout Israel.”

“We call on the Israeli government and consumers not to permit a boycott of Israel… Ice cream is not part of politics.”

Israeli politicians reacted furiously to the announcement.

“The boycott of Israel – a democracy surrounded by islands of terror – reflects a complete loss of bearings. The boycott does not work and will not work, and we will fight it with all our might,” Mr Bennett said.

Foreign Minister Yair Lapid called Ben & Jerry’s move a “disgraceful capitulation” to anti-Semitism and the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, which calls for a complete boycott of Israel over its treatment of the Palestinians.

“Over 30 states in the United States have passed anti-BDS legislation in recent years. I plan on asking each of them to enforce these laws against Ben & Jerry’s,” he said.

A spokesman for BDS, Mahmoud Nawajaa, it welcomed Ben & Jerry’s decision and called on the company “to end all its procedures with the apartheid Israel”.

Ben & Jerry’s – which was founded in 1978 by best friends Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield – has a track record of campaigning on social issues such as LGBTQ+ rights and climate change.
