    IIJ, TCCT launch joint cloud services in Thailand

    Internet Initiative Japan and Thai data center and IT infrastructure provider TCC Technology (TCCT) have jointly launched a new cloud service in Thailand named Leap GIO Cloud.

    The new service is being operated by Leap Solutions Asia (LSA), a joint venture between the two companies.

    Targeted at local Thai companies and Japanese enterprises doing business in the market, Leap GIO Cloud encompasses both public and private cloud services.

    The public cloud service can be self-provisioned and billed on an hourly or monthly basis, while the private cloud service is being offered for a monthly fee.

    LSA has also secured SAP certifications for hosting services, cloud services and SAP HANA operations services, and will use these certifications to offer support for implementing and operating SAP BASIS in the cloud.

    LSA was established in April  as a 60/40 joint venture majority-owned by TCCT.  The joint venture aims to become a market leader in Thailand’s cloud sector.

    IIJ to sell prepaid data roaming SIMs in Taiwan

    ISP and MVNO Internet Initiative Japan (IIJ) has arranged to sell a prepaid SIM card for Taiwanese visitors planning to visit Japan at all Taiwan 7-Eleven locations.

    The ready-to-use, data only Japan Travel SIM offers 1GB of data for 30 days for TW$780 ($24), with additional data packs purchasable at select locations in Japan.

    The service is being offered over NTT DoCoMo’s LTE and 3G networks, which offers download speeds of up to 375Mbps and upload speeds of up to 50Mbps in certain coverage areas.

    IIJ said Taiwan ranks third after China and South Korea in terms of the number of visitors to Japan. Total Taiwanese travelers to Japan increased 30% in 2015 to a record 3.67 million.

    Meanwhile 7-Eleven is the largest convenience store chain in Taiwan, with 5,045 locations as of April.

    Japan Travel SIMs will go on sale at Taiwanese 7-Eleven stores from July 18.

    IIJ, Biznet launch GIO Cloud JV in Indonesia

    Japanese internet and network services provider Internet Initiative Japan (IIJ) and Indonesian telecommunications services provider Biznet Networks have launched their Biznet GIO Cloud service in Indonesia. IIJ and Biznet initially announced their joint venture in November 2014 and established it in January this year. Prior to launch, the service had already been implemented on a trial basis at a Japanese insurance company, a retailer and an Indonesian tobacco company among others.

    The joint venture will leverage Biznet’s broadband backbone network and IIJ’s cloud operation technologies to provide cloud services to both local and Japanese companies. The Biznet GIO Cloud service was developed based on the operation and system architecture technologies of IIJ. The service uses Biznet’s broadband network infrastructure in Indonesia to minimize access delays.

    The Biznet GIO Cloud offers two types of services: GIO Cloud, an auto-self provisioning public cloud service, and GIO Enterprise Cloud, a private cloud service for enterprises. Internet access fees are included as standard in both products, and the products offer connectivity through closed networks as well as over the internet. Additionally, the public cloud service comes standard with a host of security functions (including firewalls and load balancers), offers 24/7 support, and provides a service level agreement (SLA) guaranteeing 99.9 percent server uptime.
