    Masterpiece Auction House opens in Hong Kong

    Indonesia-based Masterpiece Auction House will host its first auction in Hong Kong featuring Southeast Asian and Chinese modern and contemporary art works this Saturday (March 26).

    The public preview will start tomorrow (March 22).

    Masterpiece Auction House recently opened an office in Hong Kong to help expand its market share of the growing Asian modern and contemporary art market, said the President Director of Masterpiece Auction Private Ltd,, Benny Oenardi Raharjo.

    The company plans to host two auctions in Hong Kong every year showcasing artworks – paintings in particular – by established, emerging and young artists from Southeast Asia and Asia. It will also provide junior painters with an opportunity to introduce their work, which will help increase their international exposure.

    “The art market in Hong Kong has been buoyant, with more and more people buying artwork not just for the love of it, but as part of their financial and investment portfolio,” Raharjo said. “Our entry into Hong Kong, a key art hub of the region, will allow Masterpiece Auction House to grab a larger slice of the growing Asian modern and contemporary art market.”

    Malaysian restaurant chain group PappaRich has opened its first Hong Kong outlet, marking a strategic move in its Asian expansion by leveraging the city’s status as a ‘food paradise’ in the region.

    The PappaRich restaurant at the L-Square in Causeway Bay offers traditional Malaysian cuisine with a sophisticated twist, boasting genuine PappaRich ingredients flown fresh from its Malaysia headquarters, according to the president of PappaRich Asia Pacific Region, Sebastian Low. The restaurant offers, among other dishes, branded Hainan bread as well as the country’s famous durian cheese cake.

    Harley-Davidson Hong Kong has unveiled a new showroom in Chai Wan as part of its expansion plan in the city.

    The new showroom, covering about 9000 sqft (840 sqm), showcases the latest Harley-Davidson motorcycles, clothing and related services and products. Harley-Davidson Hong Kong is intended as a lifestyle concept store that “fully presents the value of the brand” to its customers, according to its principal, David Neilsen.

    The company describes the new outlet as “unlike any motorcycle dealership yet built in Hong Kong in quality and design”.

We believe that there is great potential, especially in the affluent youth market, for this legendary brand here in Hong Kong.

    PetSmart opens Hong Kong global sourcing office

    US pet provisions retailer PetSmart will open its global sourcing office in Hong Kong this month.

    The company says it chose Hong Kong to leverage the city’s strategic location to provide high-quality, innovative products for pet owners in North America.

    PetSmart is a renowned specialty pet retailer of services and solutions for the lifetime needs of pets in North America. The new Hong Kong office, located in Kwun Tong, will support the company’s global sourcing efforts in Asia and work closely with the US team to ensure all products sourced meet company objectives and customer needs.

    “As PetSmart continues to bring pet owners closer to their pets, we have an opportunity in Hong Kong to get closer to our supply chain controlling quality and costs, consolidate our non-food product assortment and develop innovative products in-house that our customers desire,” said Jim Persinger, director of PetSmart International Holdings.

    Honeybunch Handmade opens in Hong Kong

    New Zealand handmade soap company Honeybunch Handmade has opened its first own brand store in Hong Kong.

    Honeybunch Handmade is a brand owned by Soap Opera Productions, which has been supplying a Mainland China retailer with products for several years. Such is the popularity of the products, that retailer has grown from a single store to more than 20.

    Now the New Zealand company wants to trial marketing its products under its own brand and has chosen Hong Kong as the launchpad.

    The new retail store at Aberdeen St in Central sells handmade soaps, body care products and floral bouquets. The company claims its soap and bodycare products are 100 per cent handmade, using natural ingredients from New Zealand, and infused with pure Manuka honey and goat’s milk.

    MD Lisa Jolly says through the Mainland business partnership, her company gained the know-how and expertise in developing soap products that are suitable for the Chinese market.

    “Therefore we decided to launch our own brand in Hong Kong. Hong Kong is an international city famous for its breadth of retail choices. It gives new brands great exposure to residents, business traders and visitors. It is the best place from which to promote our New Zealand handmade gift and floral concepts to the world,” Jolly said.
