    Tata Comm, Syniverse enter managed IPX tie-up

    India’s Tata Communications and US-based technology and business services provider Syniverse have teamed up to create what they are billing as the first fully-managed, end-to-end IPX network interconnection partnership for operators.

    The IPX network partnership will combine platforms that support 5G and IoT to create a comprehensive foundation for global mobility services.

    Under the IPX network partnership, Syniverse and Tata Communications will collaborate to manage traffic traveling via interconnection between the two companies’ networks to enhance quality of service and improve capacity and connectivity.

    The two operators will leverage each other’s IPX network to expand the reach of global mobile service provider customers. Both companies will have access to nearly 300 directly connected IPX/GRX customers, for a total reach of nearly 800 mobile operators.

    Customers will also be provided with enhanced monitoring, reporting, redundancy and quality of service, according to Tata Communications chief product officer Anthony Bartolo.

    “By joining forces with Syniverse, we’re one step closer to our goal of creating an environment where everything and everyone can become seamlessly connected, anywhere in the world,” he said.

    “As our customers leverage next-generation IoT and mobility services to drive their digital transformation, they need a solid foundation to ensure that they are able to capture, move and manage information seamlessly and securely worldwide. The powerful combination of Tata Communications’ and Syniverse’s capabilities and global reach will enable them to do just that.”

    CUG signs IPX peering deal with 3 APAC telcos

    China Unicom Global (CUG) has signed an IPX direct interconnection bilateral agreement with regional peers PCCW Global, Hutchison Global Communications (HGC) and Chunghwa Telecom.

    The direct IPX peering agreement will allow CUG to expand its mobile roaming coverage areas.

    In a statement, CUG said the agreement will also help provide mobile customers within the region reached by its new partners with high quality mobile voice and data roaming services as well as advanced IP services including VoLTE and HD video calling.

    CUG executive vice president Yuerui Ma said CUG IPX will become a critical platform for the operator’s international roaming data exchange.

    He said CUG aims to jointly promote direct-connection among mobile networks in Asia-Pacific by using IPX direct-connection. This would allow operators in the region to provide faster, stabler and more secure international roaming services for mobile customers.

    CUG, China Unicom’s wholly-owned international subsidiary, has a presence in 28 branches worldwide. Its main businesses include leased line, internet, system integration, cloud computing, data center, video conferencing and MVNE services.

    Telenor and Vodafone have set a new global IPX benchmark by running five separate services over a single IPX interconnect.

    The operators expanded their existing 4G signaling service to include 2G/3G signaling, direct voice, data roaming services and SMS traffic.

    With the expansion Telenor and Vodafone have become among the first operator groups to implement live multi-service IPX.

    Telenor and Vodafone will use the IPX interconnect to provide VoLTE interworking and roaming between each others’ networks. Combined the two operator group have more than 660 million subscribers worldwide.

    Telenor and Vodafone said their IPX platforms have been developed in full compliance with GSMA and i3Forum guidelines to ensure full interoperability on current and future services.

    “Both Telenor and Vodafone are leading players in rolling out 4G in their local markets. This direct IPX interconnect between our mobile groups secures a high service quality with a roam like home customer experience for all Telenor and Vodafone subscribers,” Telenor CMO of global wholesale Ronny Johnsen said.

    “We are constantly challenged by changes in our industry and such partnerships enable mobile groups to adopt new technologies and services.”
