Jins Makes Spectacular Debut in Vietnam: First Flagship Store Unveiled in Saigon Centre Amid Expansion Plans

In a strategic move to expand its footprint across Southeast Asia, Jins, a renowned Japanese eyewear retail brand, has inaugurated its introductory store in Vietnam. The expansive 200-square-meter flagship store is centrally located at Saigon Centre in Ho Chi Minh City.

    Reflective Design and Core Collections

The design of the newly established store is a true reflection of the brand’s minimalist approach that combines unadorned simplicity with purposeful utility. The interior of the store embraces the Japanese spatial concepts, Shakkan-ho and Chigaidana, creating an environment of balance and systematic order. This design philosophy is a characteristic feature seen across all Jins outlets in Asia.

The Vietnam branch offers the company’s key collections, namely Airframe, 360°, Home, and Combination Titanium. These collections are known for their lightweight materials, flexible hinges, and understated styling.

    A Significant Milestone

The launch in Vietnam represents a significant landmark in the global expansion journey of Jins. Atsushi Ogawa, director of Jins Vietnam, expressed his delight in bringing the brand’s ‘Magnify Life’ philosophy to Vietnamese customers. This philosophy unifies functionality, creativity, and design aspects.

Ogawa stated, “Jins is committed to establishing a long-lasting presence in Vietnam while also contributing to the growth of the local eyewear market. Our approach is centered on quality, innovation, and a customer-centric experience.”

    Future Expansion Plans

In addition to launching the flagship store, Jins intends to unveil two more outlets in Ho Chi Minh City this month. The company initially entered the Vietnamese market in June with a temporary pop-up store. This store served to measure local demand before the brand’s permanent installation.

This debut in Vietnam represents Jins’ eighth overseas market, following its presence in Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, the Philippines, the US, and South Korea. As of September this year, the company runs 810 stores worldwide, making Vietnam a significant addition to its Southeast Asian network.

Jins store opened a spectacular store in Shanghai World

Japanese eyewear brand Jins has opened a striking new store in the Shanghai World Financial Center. The Jins store was designed by Tokyo-based architect Junya Ishigami without any external entrance and features concrete counters that appear to float in the air, set against a stark, industrial setting, sporting hundreds of fashionable glasses frames. The counters are supported by heavy H-beams attached to a bowed steel sheet that covers the shop floor.

The store is lit by strong 4000-Kelvin suspended luminaires that bring the bare walls into stark contrast. Ishigami commented, “I wanted to make a void space within a shopping mall.”

Jins traditionally hires independent designers to fit out its retail areas.

Jins founder and CEO Hitoshi Tanaka said: “I prefer working with architects on a space because they make more of an impact.”

Hong Kong eyewear retailer Jins makes debut at Kwun Tong

The first Jins Hong Kong eyewear store opened last Friday – part of the Japanese retailer’s broadening focus on Asia.

The company said it sees Hong Kong’s “sophisticated retail market” as an idea place to start tapping into the growing eyewear market across the region.

“We have been extending our presence in the region and Hong Kong is an inevitable choice of base as the city has a fast-growing and vibrant eyewear market,” said Mikiya Yamawaki, GM overseas business development at Jins.

The Jins Hong Kong store at Kwun Tong takes up about 1000sqft and features a range of more than 1000 frames. Customers are promised finished glasses in about 30 minutes after they select their frames.

Yamawaki said Jins aims to become the world’s leading eyewear brand by accelerating its global expansion plan.

“Japanese products and brands are popular with consumers in Hong Kong, and they appreciate high-quality goods and innovative ideas. It is an ideal place from which to expand our business. We hope to provide unique and high-quality glasses and services through our Hong Kong store.”

Associate director-general of investment promotion Dr Jimmy Chiang welcomed the opening of the first Jins Hong Kong store. “It will not only add new choices of eyewear for local customers, but also bring new designs and technologies from Japan to the local industry.”

Jins was founded in 1988 and has been developing its eyewear brand since 2001. As of August, the company had 510 stores in Japan, Mainland China, North America, Taiwan and the Philippines.

Located at SM Aura Premier in Taguig, the Jins Philippines store will offer up to 1000 styles of frames and match them with lenses within about 30 minutes.

Japan’s largest eyewear retailer Jins is to launch in the US, opening an inaugural flagship store in San Francisco’s Union Square this spring.

Tokyo-based Jins launched its first store in 2001 and now operates more than 300 retail locations across Japan and China.

The 4900 sqft flagship will be located at 151 Powell St and Jins promises it will stock one of the most expansive collections of eyeglasses in the city.

In tandem with the store, Jins will launch a US eCommerce site in Spring 2015. Customers nationwide will be able to purchase Jins eyewear online with an existing prescription and San Francisco/Bay Area residents will have the opportunity to purchase their glasses online and pick them up in the store on the same day.

Jins promises to “reinvent the in-store eyewear shopping experience” in the US, offering “unprecedented simplicity and speed”. At the new store, customers can browse, purchase and receive their prescription eyewear with custom fitting all in the same visit. Customers no longer have to wait weeks to receive their glasses in the mail because all Jins’ aspheric prescription lenses are assembled in-store using its Kanna lens lab.

The company promises customers can receive their glasses from start to finish in approximately 30 minutes.

The Jins store will house more than 1200 different styles, priced from US$60-120, including premium lenses.

“We chose the Bay Area as our first stop in the US because it perfectly reflects Jins’’ progressive spirit and passion for innovation,” said Shinsuke Tomita, president of Jins Eyewear US.

“With the opening of the San Francisco store, we hope to change the way people think about shopping for glasses in the US. Similar to how we shop for shoes or jewellery, we want our customers to explore countless designs and color options without being limited by the unnecessary complexities and inflated prices that are still the norm in the eyewear industry today.”

Jins describes itself as “an early innovator in creating high-quality, fashion-forward prescription and nonprescription eyewear at affordable prices”.

Jins’ point of difference is quality craftsmanship. “Jins pioneered the concept of affordable, high-quality eyewear in Japan, and has always believed that quality should never be delivered with an added surcharge for consumers. Every pair of Jins glasses is created with the passion and spirit of Japanese craftsmanship, using only the best materials, and metal frame parts sourced exclusively from Japan.”
