    Cebu Pacific to begin Cebu-Busuanga flights in October

    Budget carrier Cebu Pacific announced on Thursday, August 15, that it is launching direct flights from Cebu to Busuanga (Coron) in Palawan.

    Cebu Pacific’s subsidiary Cebgo will fly twice daily between the Mactan-Cebu International Airport and Francisco B. Reyes Airport, beginning October 27 this year.

      • departing Cebu at 7:25 am, arriving in Busuanga at 9 am
      • (turnaround flight) departing Busuanga at 9:20 am, arriving in Cebu at 11 am
    • 2nd flight
      • departing Cebu at 10:25 am, arriving in Busuanga at 12:05 pm
      • (turnaround flight) departing Busuanga at 12:25 pm, arriving in Cebu at 2:10 pm

    “We believe that these twice daily flights will enable residents from Cebu and other parts of Visayas and Mindanao to explore Palawan, without having to make the trip to Metro Manila to catch their flights,” said Cebgo president and chief executive officer Alexander Lao in a statement on Thursday.

    “With this direct Cebu-Busuanga route, the islands of Coron and Culion are easier to get to. This will also allow locals from the rest of Southern Luzon to easily connect to Cebu and its network of over 20 domestic and 6 international destinations,” he added.

    Cebu Pacific is having a seat sale for the new route from Thursday until Saturday, August 17, with a base fare as low as P299. The travel period is from October 27, 2019 to March 28, 2020.

    Aside from Cebu, Cebu Pacific operates flights out of Manila, Clark, Kalibo, Iloilo, Davao, and Cagayan de Oro.

    Its network covers over 100 routes and 64 destinations, spanning Asia, Australia, the Middle East, and the United States.

    Philippines AirAsia to develop more regional Filipino hubs

    Philippines AirAsia will skirt future growth at Manila Ninoy Aquino Int’ldue to serious capacity constraints and instead will focus its development at regional hubs in Clark, Cebu, Kalibo, Puerto Princesa, and Panglao, an airport set to replace Tagbilaran by the end of 2018, CEO Dexter M. Comendador has told the Business Mirror.

    “These will be opened up as hubs because we are lacking space in Manila, and in the next 10 years, we should have 70 planes. So we need to distribute the planes to the countryside. It will spread; then development will follow,” Comendador has said.

    The Filipino unit of AirAsia Group currently operates 399 weekly departures, 38% of all its flights, out of the capital airport in the country. Cebu, its second-largest base, is served with 160 weekly departures. However, these proportions may soon change.

    According to the ch-aviation fleets module, Philippines AirAsia currently operates twenty-one A320 aircraft. It is set to receive around fifty more A320 Family jets, possibly including A320neo, in the next 10 years.

    In line with a government directive, Philippine Airlines (PR, Manila Ninoy Aquino Int’l) has also announced that it, too, will focus on regional airports as the capital gateway lacks space for growth.

    Comendador has also reaffirmed Philippines AirAsia’s plan to launch an Initial Public Offering (IPO) in the fourth quarter of 2018. Philippines AirAsia intends to raise around USD200 million and float up to 30% of its shares.

    AirAsia to resume flights between Clark, Kalibo

    In a statement, Philippines AirAsia said it will start the three flights weekly from Clark to Kalibo on March 27. The budget carrier will mount flights every Monday, Tuesday and Friday.

    “AirAsia has constantly dedicated itself to make air travel more affordable, convenient, and accessible to all and we are reaffirming this commitment with our newest Clark-Kalibo route. We are thrilled to provide the much needed connectivity at affordable fares for travellers from Central and Northern Luzon,” Philippines AirAsia CEO Captain Dexter Comendador said.

    To recall, AirAsia introduced commercial flights from Clark in 2012 before moving to the main gateway Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

    With the resumption of Clark flghts, AirAsia is offering promo fares to Kalibo from as low as P699 until Feb. 5. Travel period is between March 27 and Nov. 30, 2017.
