Kinzie Kids’ Revolutionary Haircare Line for Children Launches in Over 1000 Woolworths Stores Across Australia

With their innovative children’s haircare products, Kinzie Kids, a brand developed by Renee Stuart, co-founder of Everblue Naturals, is poised to enter the Australian marketplace. This month will witness the brand’s expansion into over 1000 Woolworths retail locations.

Product Range Designed with Children in Mind

Kinzie Kids’ product line, designed specifically for children between the ages of two to twelve, boasts distinct two-in-one and three-in-one offerings. The brand reflects Everblue’s commitment to clean, sustainable practices, while maintaining a fun and relatable identity.

“The range has been thoughtfully designed, keeping every aspect in mind – from the formulation and the appealing melon scent, to the bottle design which includes an easy, no-mess pump,” said Stuart.

She went on to affectionately describe Kinzie as a ‘big sister in a bottle’, a tool to help children develop their self-assuredness and independence. Stuart recalled a moment when her husband remarked that their daughter’s hair looked as if it had been professionally styled just upon waking up, which reaffirmed her belief in the efficacy of the formula.

    Global Expansion on the Horizon

The brand has plans for further international expansion. Kinzie Kids will extend its reach to Sprouts Farmers Market in the United States and Farmers in New Zealand in the early part of next year.

  • Coding For Kids: The Ultimate Guide For Parents

Coding For Kids: The Ultimate Guide For Parents

Most children these days love computers and electronic gadgets. It wouldn’t be a surprise if coding (or computer programming) for kids would come in naturally as an interest or as a passion for them.

Society has become more productive because of technology and it is but expected that coding for kids Singapore would be a perfect base for your children to learn this advanced skill and way of thinking which will equip them professionally for a lifetime.

Most parents (who are themselves computer literate) have this hidden desire for their kids to be passionate about coding. In recent surveys, 90 percent of parents in the USA would want coding to be a part of the general school curriculum.

Most parents of a generation ago have had this idea of devoting a life to computers which were just in their infancy but their own parents rejected the idea because they didn’t see that the programming revolution would take over the world.

Now it’s their chance to see this desire passed down to their own kids.

When your youngsters start to learn code at a very early age, you are setting them up to a life of professional and financial stability. As online learning becomes more the norm, almost all kids are amenable to the idea of learning coding through online classes after their traditional school hours or during weekends.

Get ready because we are going to discuss why coding as part of your children’s computer literacy is so vital for them as they create lives of their own as they grow up.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY CODING?

If you think that coding would prepare your kids well for their future, you should understand it deeply.

The other name for coding is programming. It is an elaborate process with both opportunities for creativity and routine to work hand in hand. The computer programmer, in this case, your kid, tells the computer to execute a specific task by writing workable scripts with the use of programming languages like Python or Java. In the future, expect more programming languages to be created and make your kid more excited to learn.

Your child will give the computer instructions through a specific language which the computer understands. The computer then works on carrying out the command.

There are a lot of possibilities with coding. Your kid can create games, websites, apps, software and even interactive digital content. It is an endless realm of potential which will come from the hearts and minds of your incredible kids! That’s why, if your child loves digital games and mind twisting games, it will be no problem to transform them into coders.

IS CODING BENEFICIAL FOR YOUR KIDS?

Definitely. Their minds are still malleable and open to be filled up, like a sponge. When they are exposed to the rudiments of coding at ages as early as 5, they have the advantage to critically evaluate for themselves scenarios, choose from different options, and create surprisingly effective solutions.

Best of all, they learn to undergo failure and then attempt repeatedly until they can create coding that is productive and usable. In effect, they experience the trial and error process of getting up every they fall down (in this case, when their coding process is erroneous, they simply have to try again).

When they’re very young when they start, especially at Maker Kids Camp in Singapore, the easier it will be for them to master the coding skill, no matter what new languages in the future come their way.

AT WHAT AGE CAN YOUR KIDS START LEARNING TO CODE?

Swiss psychologist Jean Piaget concluded that when children teach the age of 5 which is the preoperational stage, they begin to understand the world through mental symbols like words and pictures.

If we stand by this theory, kids can learn coding by the time they are 5.

Coding basics at the Makers Kids Camp in Singapore are simplified and even explained through games so that these young kids can understand the foundations of coding.

CODING MAKES KIDS THINK LOGICALLY AND CRITICALLY

There have been several studies that discovered the positive connection between coding and cognitive skills. Kids who have learned or acquired computer programming skills scored higher on cognitive ability exams than those who have little or zero coding experience.

KIDS LEARN A SKILL CALLED DECOMPOSITION

Decomposition is a process wherein the children are taught how to break down complicated problems into smaller and better to manage chunks so that they can write functional scripts. Kids will find this skill applicable when they confront hard to comprehend situations in the world.

    THE YOUTH LEARN PROBLEM SOLVING

When they code, a problem is identified, then analyzed, created a workable solution. Then the said solution is tested and retested and revised until the problem is solved.

In technical terms, the kids write, rewrite, troubleshoot, debug lines and lines of code until they get the program working right and productively.

CODING ENHANCES BOTH CREATIVITY AND FOCUS

Coding has a reputation of being a routine activity and not aligned with creativity because it is methodical and process oriented.

But that is far from the truth and true blooded programmers can attest to that. This is especially true when the kids create programs from scratch.

Think about it. How else could kids create new digital games, apps, animation, websites and more if they don’t have innate creative skills which could be nurtured through coding?

They are made to write down lines of codes or snap together blocks (note: block coding is an alternative form of coding for kids), but the actual idea came from depths of their imagination.

But parallel to execution of their imagination, coding requires rigid focus so that all the details of the program are not neglected and infused directly so that the end result will be perfect.

When kids acquire experiences from the real world or from other digital concepts, they piece them all together and unify them through the coding skills that they will learn from Maker Kids Camp in Singapore. The result is a new app, a brand new video game or an exciting animation – all unique results from the coding which the kids will work on. They make hypothetical ideas into workable coding masterpieces.

CODING IS AN ALTERNATIVE OUTLET FOR THEIR UNIQUENESS.

To express themselves, some kids paint, sketch, sing, draw, play a musical instrument, build things or indulge in sports.

But some children excel in coding which can enable them to create digital and physical (like robots) products which express their own unique personality.

EXAMPLE OF THE CHALLENGES OF CODING TO THE KIDS

Let’s say for example your kids will be developing a video game. They are required to write code that will make their character do all kinds of movements.

Walk forward, go backward, move from side to side, jump or crouch. The kids also need to write code so that the character can interact with the digital environment. Plus also code for the possible outcomes from that interaction. For examine, when the character drops an object or when the character bumps into a wall, etc.

There is a lot of thinking involved. So, if the children don’t have the patience to analyze it through or to organize their thoughts, they may end up coding in fillers or bugs into their scripts.

YOU CAN LEARN CODING WITH YOUR KIDS

To make your kids feel secure, you can accompany them to the Maker Kids Camp for Coding.

It will be a new learning experience for you too! Even though the children will want to feel that they are all grown up and independent, they will still always crawl up to you when they feel any insecurity.

Most kids would prefer that you spend time with them in this challenging and fun endeavor. Coding would seem less daunting and less intimidating when they see in the premises people they trust like you.

CODING IS A WORTHY INVESTMENT INTO YOUR KIDS’ FUTURE

Even if your kids will not become professional computer programmers eventually, coding will still be a skill that is much valued in all kinds of industries. This is because, each sector will continue and will heavily rely on the internet and technology for their continue growth and your kids’ coding background will come in handy.

Construction, medicine, finance, food, retail…all of them require a certain degree of programming knowledge and so your youngsters will have a distinct advantage over their peers who have no knowledge about it.

There was a market analysis which concluded that coding skills paid an individual more than $20,000 more per year than people who don’t have the expertise. The same study concluded that coding jobs grew 12 percent more than other types of work available.

Coding is rapidly becoming a required skill that is being given importance by employers when they announce job openings in their companies.

Slots are fast filling up at the Maker Kids Camp in Singapore. Why don’t you give us a call or pay us a visit and see what coding can offer to your kids.

  • Dark mode, new voice effects coming to Messenger Kids

Dark mode, new voice effects coming to Messenger Kids

One of the most requested features for mobile apps, dark mode is finally coming to Messenger Kids. Since the app’s audience isn’t as large as the main app, Facebook took its time to make it available to its users.

Although kids can’t really complain, Messenger had decided to throw in a couple of additional features to go along with the dark mode. For starters, new voice effects can be added to audio messages. Also, kids can now start games from within their chat thread.

The dark mode feature, which is only available on iOS devices (Android coming soon), can be turned on and off from the Messenger Kids app settings. Also, the phone’s settings can be used to automatically change how Messenger Kids looks.

To add voice effects to voice message, simply tap on the “voice” mic icon, press and hold to record a message, then choose from five different options to change your voice to sound like you’re talking into a seashell, or like a robot, ghost, gorilla or mouse. Just like dark mode, this feature is only available on iOS devices for now.

The ability to start games from within a chat thread allows kids to play two-player games without having to leave the chat thread and go to the Explore tab to pick a game. Once again, the ability for kids to start two-player games from within Messenger chat threads is only available for iOS users.

  • Instagram is pausing work on Instagram Kids following recent backlash

Instagram is pausing work on Instagram Kids following recent backlash

Following recent reporting from The Wall Street Journal that suggested Facebook had ignored internal research about the negative impact Instagram was having on teenage girls, development of Instagram Kids is being halted.

Nevertheless, Instagram still believes that launching a version of its platform that targets younger users “is the right thing to do” and will now switch to working with parents, experts, and policymakers to demonstrate the need for Instagram Kids.

The Facebook-owned platform also plans to continue building opt-in parental supervision tools for teenagers. Recent ideas include a “Take a Break” warning and encouraging users to view other topics.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri clarified that its so-called Instagram Kids platform was never meant for young children. It instead targeted kids aged 10-12 because they often have phones but lie about their age in order to gain access to social media.

The final version would have required parental permission to join and would be filled with “age-appropriate content and features.” Mosseri says ads weren’t going to be included either.

The version of Instagram Kids that was in the works would have allowed parents to supervise the time their children spend on the app, as well as oversee who they follow, who can follow them, and messages.

It’ll remain to be seen whether Instagram can convince the public that a version of Instagram for kids is needed. But what’s clear is that the social media platform isn’t giving up on its efforts just yet.

  • An “Instagram for Kids” is in the making

An “Instagram for Kids” is in the making

Facebook, Instagram’s parent company, have taken it upon themselves to begin development for a children’s version of the app.  It is widely known the regular Instagram app is hardly an ideal environment for young children. The minimum age to create an account is 13 years old, but kids are shrewd when it comes to figuring out how to sidestep this restriction, exposing themselves to possible dangers.

Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, spoke out about the difficulty of verifying users’ age, as “most people don’t get identification documents until they are in their mid-to-late teens.” Mosseri will be overseeing the development of the new app dedicated to providing a kid-friendly Instagram experience, which is still in its infancy stage, along with Pavni Diwanji (previously in charge of Google’s YouTube Kids and other kid-focused projects).

I’m excited to announce that going forward, we have identified youth work as a priority for Instagram. We are accelerating our integrity and privacy work to ensure the safest possible experience for teens and building a version of Instagram that allows people under the age of 13 to safely use Instagram for the first time.

It isn’t difficult to imagine the perils and pitfalls pre-teens could encounter while using the regular Instagram app, and mingling with all sorts of strangers. Because the app caters to teenagers and adults, its restrictions are minimal to accommodate to that age group. The fact that it allows nudity (albeit for artistic or body-positive purposes), and other explicit content, is the least of it.

There, children are vulnerable and exposed to both predators who lurk on the platform, and other negative influences such as unrealistic body standards, shady chat groups with 18+ content, as well as abuse and bullying. Neither is the merciless bombardment from advertisers and product-pushing influencers appropriate for the many children on Instagram, whose minds are too easily influenced and too young to think critically and make conscious decisions.
A lot of children, either by choice or by accident, migrate [from YouTube Kids] onto the broader YouTube platform. Just because you have a platform for kids, it doesn’t mean the kids are going to stay there. —Kumar

Researcher Priya Kumar has spoken up to make the case that a kid-friendly Instagram in no way guarantees that children won’t find themselves on the main app sooner or later. Moreover, it will only serve to reel them in and get them hooked onto social media at an earlier age than ever, as well as tread the moral fence of monetizing their interactions on the platform to boot.

Buzzfeed adds that after Facebook developed Messenger Kids in 2017 (boasting strict safety measures and parental controls), in 2019, a bug was discovered in the app which allowed children to join chats with complete strangers.

  • New feature for Android tablets helps parents keep track of their kids’ online experiences

New feature for Android tablets helps parents keep track of their kids’ online experiences

Being a parent these days means having to make some difficult decisions for your kids. There are choices that you never thought that you would have to make such as setting limits on screen times. And today, Google is introducing Google Kids Space, a new mode for select Android tablets that include apps, books and videos; the new feature provides more than just screen time limits and safety features designed to keep children safe. With kids tab, parents can easily find and pick “teacher-approved” apps for their children.

Kids Space will soon be available globally on the new Lenovo Smart Tab M10 HD Gen 2, and will be available on more Android tablets shortly. Google says, “To evaluate and select “teacher-approved” apps in Google Play, we worked with academic experts and children’s education specialists to define rubrics. For Kids Space, we’ve built on that foundation and applied our quality standard to an ever-expanding library of apps and books in the Play and Read tabs. We worked with top publishers to make popular children’s books free of charge, and have over 400 free books available in the U.S. alone. In the Watch and Make tabs, your kids can view creative and fun videos from YouTube Kids that are engaging and encourage off-screen activities. And if you’re looking to customize, even more, parents can download additional content from Google Play.”

Kids Space requires a Google Account for your child. Parental controls require the Family Link app on a supported Android, Chromebook, or iOS device. Books and video content might not available in all regions. Video content is subject to the availability of the YouTube Kids app and book content requires the Play Books app. The availability of apps, books and video content may change without notice.

There are 400 free books in the watch and make tabs, and creative and fun videos can be viewed from YouTube Kids. Google is giving your kids enough content to stay entertained while also helping to educate them. And that is exactly what you want from an online baby sitter.

The TSA bans use of TikTok over national security threat allegations

The United States Senator for New York Charles E. Schumer has been concerned about national security risks posed by China-owned social media platform TikTok and other similar platforms operating in the US since October last year. He has now reached out to the Transport Security Administration’s (the TSA) Administrator David Pekoske, expressing his concern over the use of the platform by the agency.

In consequence, the TSA has banned the use of TikTok by its employees. The agency has stopped allowing its employees to use the platform on Sunday. National security experts have been concerned about TikTok’s collection and handling of user data and personal information. Additionally, concerns regarding the fact that Chinese companies have to work in accordance with the Chinese Communist Party’s demands have also been raised. According to Schumer’s press release, those companies do not possess means to decline requests made by the Chinese government.

Since October 2019, multiple governmental organizations, including the US Army, the Marines, the Navy, as well as the Air Force and the Coast Guard, have banned or imposed hard limitations on the usage of the app. They are also encouraging personnel to avoid the app even in regard to personal use.

Although TikTok’s parent company ByteDance has not specifically commented on those issues, it maintains the position that it is a trusted and responsible corporate citizen of the US.

  • Countdown cuts off kids’ access to energy drinks

Countdown cuts off kids’ access to energy drinks

Countdown’s implemented its energy drink age-restrictions on Tuesday, in an effort to curb the growing obesity rate in New Zealand.

Customers will now need to produce ID to prove they are over the age of 16 in order to purchase energy drinks across Countdown’s 180 stores.

According to Countdown general manager of corporate affairs, safety and sustainability Kiri Hannifin, support for the initiative has been overwhelmingly positive since it was announced in June.

“We have had incredible feedback from parents, teachers, health workers and our customers about our decision. I think New Zealanders were ready for this discussion around energy drinks,” Hannifin said.

“We made our decision after engaging with health and education leaders, but also in talking with our team, many of whom are parents themselves.

“Across the board, we found communities of people who are seeking help to address New Zealand’s high child obesity rates.”

New Zealand’s has the third-highest obesity rate in the OECD.

Public health advocate Dr Lance O’Sullivan said reducing children’s access to energy drinks is a step in the right direction.

“Children don’t understand either the short or longer-term consequences of consuming drinks with high amounts of sugar and caffeine, and sometimes we need to step in until they are old enough to make that decision for themselves,” O’Sullivan said.

The New Zealand Beverage Council spokesperson Stephen Jones said in June while he respected the right of Countdown to make this decision, New Zealand already has some of the strongest energy drink regulations in the world.

“This is really a case of a solution looking for a problem,” Jones said.

  • Google’s popular YouTube Kids app is getting a ‘Preschool’ filter and web version

Google’s popular YouTube Kids app is getting a ‘Preschool’ filter and web version

Back when Google unveiled the YouTube Kids app for Android and iOS devices in 2015, its goal was pretty simple and so was the execution of the product itself. Roughly four and a half years later, the children-friendly, parentally controlled video platform naturally looks far more mature and versatile, meeting the specific needs of more age groups and user categories than ever.

After expanding its functionality to distinguish between “older” and “younger” users last year, YouTube Kids is now getting a third option to ensure even younger children can be kept protected from content deemed unsuitable for their age. We’re talking preschoolers aged 4 and under here, which will be served with videos that “promote creativity, playfulness, learning, & exploration” if their parents so choose.
Of course, just like before, you’ll still also be able to select an “approved content only” option under which the search feature will be blocked and your child will merely get access to videos, channels, and collections hand-picked and green-lighted by yourself. Speaking of, you should continue to keep in mind that not all YouTube Kids content is manually reviewed and carefully grouped in the right age category, so if you end up activating the “preschool”, “younger”, or “older” setting, you’ll definitely need to keep an eye out for inappropriate videos and immediately report them as such.
In other news, you might be happy to hear that after crossing 100 million installs through the Play Store alone, YouTube Kids will finally become available on the web as well. The app’s browser version is gearing up for an official launch “later this week”, although no further details are available at the moment.
