    AirAsia X Launches Kuala Lumpur – Taipei – Okinawa Flights

    AirAsia X has launched flights between Kuala Lumpur and Naha Airport in Okinawa, Japan.

    AirAsia will operate the flights, which will fly via Taipei, four times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

    Flight D7 384 is scheduled to leave KL at 07:35 and land in Taipei at 12:20. The aircraft then departs Taipei at 13:20, landing in Okinawa at 16:00.

    The return flight, D7 385, is timed to leave Naha Airport at 17:30 and land in Taipei at 18:10 before departing for KL at 19:10. The aircraft is scheduled to land back in KL at 00:05 the following day.

    AirAsia X Chairman, Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz, said, “With the addition of Okinawa, AirAsia X now flies to 35 destinations. Together with AirAsia Group, our combined fleet of over 250 aircraft can now connect Okinawa with over 150 destinations across ASEAN, Asia Pacific, the Middle East and the US.”

    Travelers from Kuala Lumpur to Okinawa Naha are not required to obtain a visa during their one-hour stopover in Taipei and may return to their seats after clearing a quick security check of their carry-on bags and inflight belongings.

    “As we begin to accept the delivery of the technologically-advanced Airbus A330neo aircraft later this year, the Group will continue to evaluate and consider launching exciting and viable new routes to destinations such as in Eastern Europe, within Asia and Australia. Such new routes, if viable, can accelerate domestic and regional tourism growth, especially in key markets with high demand,” added Tan Sri Rafidah.

    Swiss Watch Gallery launched its signature timepiece event, Art of Time 2019 at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.

    Art of Time is presented by Swiss Watch Gallery in partnership with Tumi, GH Mumm, and media outlets The Edge and The Star.

    In its sixth rendition, Art of Time 2019 features the world’s renowned watchmakers, including Arnold & Son, Bell & Ross, Girard-Perregaux, Graham, IWC Schaffhausen, Jaquet Droz, Oris, Parmigiani Fleurier, TAG Heuer, Tudor, Ulysse Nardin and Zenith.

    “The idea behind Art of Time is to bring to Malaysia the experience of the amazing and exclusive watchmaking showcases of Basel and Geneva,” said Ashvin Valiram, executive director of Valiram Group. “We feel it is the best way to inculcate the love for horological instruments, and the craftsmanship and innovation that go into their creation.”

    The launch event has attracted more than 200 guests including entrepreneurs, corporate captains, retail partners, watch enthusiasts, celebrities, socialites and media figures

    “This year is our best by far, with new brands joining our showcase for the first time,” said Ashvin. “We look at ourselves not just as a retailer but also an advocate of fine watchmaking and through Art of Time, we’re looking to evolve the customers’ interest in watches and fuel the passion.”

    A Tumi pop-up also featured in the exhibition, highlighting the Tumi x Chris Pratt collection. There was also a special booth featuring watch winders from Orient Crown, a Singapore-based luxury timepiece accessories company.

    “When we opened our first watch boutique in Penang in 2001, we never expected to become a preeminent watch retailer in the country. Swiss Watch Gallery is indeed a young adult now and we look forward to further strengthening the business beyond the shores of Southeast Asia,” said Ashvin.

    AirAsia reveals exclusive route from Kuala Lumpur to Da Lat

    Air asia has launched an exclusive route to Da Lat from Kuala Lumpur, further expanding its footprint in Vietnam.

    The four times weekly service to Da Lat, capital of Lam Dong province in the Central Highlands, will commence on Dec 20.

    Da Lat, known as the City of Eternal Spring for its pleasant weather, was developed as a leisure town by the French in the early 1900s, and boasts some fine examples of colonial architecture, such as Da Lat Railway Station and Lycée Yersin. Da Lat is also home to three mansions owned by Emperor Bao Dai, the last emperor of Vietnam.

    Other attractions include Xuan Huong Lake, a popular icon of Da Lat located in the city centre, and Linh Phuoc Pagoda, which is covered in colourful mosaic made from pieces of pottery and glass. For nature lovers, Robin Hill offers a panoramic view of the city and its natural surroundings, including Tuyen Lam Lake and Lang Biang Mountain, while trekking to the top of Mount Samson allows visitors to get a highland view of Da Lat.

    Poney flagship Store in KL opens at Central iCity

    Malaysian childrenswear retailer Poney has opened a flagship store in the new Central iCity shopping centre.

    Poney Group has three brands – Poney, Baby Poney and Poney Enfants, offering apparel and accessories for newborns, toddlers and children aged up to 12 years old.

    The new boutique displays the full range in a bright, light setting, located next to Trudy & Teddy.

    Central iCity is the first shopping centre in Malaysia’s capital city to be opened by Thailand’s Central Group. It also features a Sogo department store and Malaysia’s 500th (and the world’s 15,000th) AS Watson store.

    Founded in 1992 by Albert Tan and his wife Sharon Ng, Poney Group began with consignment counters inside department stores before opening its first boutique in The Mines Shopping Mall in 1997. A flagship store opened in Suria KLCC two years later.

    The company has since expanded in Malaysia and offshore into markets including Singapore, China, Indonesia and the Middle East.

    U Mobile taps ZTE to conduct 5G trials in Malaysia

    U Mobile has signed an MoU with ZTE to support its 5G deployment in Malaysia

    The agreement will see both parties collaborating on various 5G related developments including live testing, 5G showcases well as implementation of Massive MIMO.

    U Mobile CEO Wong Heang Tuck said the operator has a long standing working relationship with ZTE and it is a logical next step for the companies to collaborate on initiatives related to 5G.

    “In the near future, we will be working closely with ZTE to conduct live tests in select areas in the KL city, so Malaysians may experience the first-hand power of 5G,” Wong said in a statement.

    U Mobile CTO Woon Ooi Yuen added that the operator has been aggressively expanding its 4G LTE networks all across West and East Malaysia in recent months and started plotting its journey towards 5G.

    “As part of our 5G roadmap, we will be implementing Massive MIMO in certain areas in the KL City to further enhance customer experience by leveraging the wider bandwidths.”

    Steven Ge, managing director of ZTE Malaysia, said the company has 5G end-to-end solution capabilities, adding that the partnership with U Mobile will “turn 5G into a reality in the near future to benefit Malaysians.”

    Earlier this week, U Mobile has also formed a strategic partnership with Razer to collaborate in e-payments, e-sports, and 5G testbeds.

    Under the partnership, U Mobile and Razer are looking into leveraging e-sports events for 5G testbeds in Malaysia by conducting e-sports-related 5G testbeds and trials in the country.

    Dyson Beauty Demo Zone opens at 1 Utama mall

    A Dyson Beauty Demo Zone has opened at Kuala Lumpur’s 1 Utama mall. The outlet, which opened a few days ago, invites shoppers to examine, test and purchase the brand’s range of hair care products.

    Dyson is a British engineering design firm opened by James Dyson, the inventor of cyclonic vacuum technology. Its hair care products employ a high-speed jet of focussed air to effect drying and styling without intense heat.

    The brand is offering a free stand to OneCard members purchasing the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer as an opening special, while stocks last.

    Lush Malaysia KL launches soon

    A personnel recruitment tweet has revealed that the UK cosmetics brand Lush Malaysia is preparing to open in Kuala Lumpur.

    The notice, verified by Lipstiq Malaysia, was posted on July 9 to seek full- and part-time sales ambassadors, supervisors and trainee managers.

    Lush retails handmade natural bath and beauty products that it says are environmentally-friendly, 100 per cent vegetarian and cruelty-free. The items are sold without packaging or using recycled packing materials.

    The brand, which has stores in many Asia-Pacific markets, including Hong Kong and Australia, is likely best known for its strongly-scented effervescent “bath bombs”.

    There is no further information as of yet regarding where the Lush Malaysia store will be located or when its will open.

    Aw Lab Malaysia launches Kuala Lumpur flagship Store

    Sneaker specialist Aw Lab Malaysia has launched a flagship store in Suria KLCC shopping mall, Kuala Lumpur.

    It carries exclusive collections from such brands as Adidas, Nike, Puma and Reebok, and introduces two new labels to the Malaysian streetwear market, Down Up and Two of a Kind.

    Malaysian celebrities Alicia Amin, Caprice, Elizabeth Tan and Juliana Evans attended the store opening.

    Giuseppe Nisi, head of Asia for the Italian company, which is part of the Bata group, says Aw Lab plans to open its second Malaysian store within the year.

    The store takes up two spaces on the third floor of the mall, popular with tourists and local shoppers alike.

  • AirAsia to close Surakarta-Kuala Lumpur route

    Low-cost carrier AirAsia is set to close on Jan. 16 its route from Surakarta in Central Java to Kuala Lumpur.

    AirAsia Berhad commercial head Spencer Lee told Antara news agency that the closure was due to commercial reasons.

    The airline is currently spreading the news among passengers through email and text messages. Those affected by the closure will receive a full refund or be allowed to change their flight by taking off from Semarang, Central Java, or Yogyakarta.

    Despite the move, Lee assured the carrier was still committed to adding more flights to Indonesia this year.

    Meanwhile, Purwanto, operation and service department manager of state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I at Adi Soemarmo International Airport in Central Java, said the operator had heard about the news, but has yet to receive an official confirmation from the carrier.

    “Based on our data, the average number of passengers for the route is relatively high, up to 70 percent capacity,” Purwanto said.

    Kuala Lumpur for the next Xiaomi store in Malaysia

    Xiaomi Malaysia has opened its second retail store, offering Kuala Lumpur shoppers greater access to its Mi Ecosystem products.

    Originally the Chinese electronics company had sold its smartphones and other products exclusively online, but in its home territory has been introducing its Mi Home stores.

    At 940sqft (90sqm), its second authorised Mi Store is smaller than the debut store in Penang.  Xiaomi South Pacific head Steven Shi says the opening of a second store indicates the brand’s “great expectations” for growth in Malaysia.

    Two new smartphone models were released to coincide with the store’s opening, and Shi says Xiaomi will soon expand its Mi Ecosystem of products in Malaysia. These include IoT-ready products such as a smart rice cooker that can be pre-programmed for different recipes, a smart luggage bag than can be unlocked by phone, plus routers, TVs and drones.

    Meanwhile, Xiaomi is expanding across Southeast Asia, and has opened 15 Mi Stores and a factory in Indonesia. Xiaomi also has two Mi Stores in Singapore and one in Thailand. Its network in Malaysia is run by CG Computers.

    Its second concept phone, released with the KL store opening, was designed by Philippe Starck and features a curved ceramic back that that transitions to an aluminium frame. It will be available for pre-order on Saturday through online and offline channels including Lazada and authorised Mi Stores.

    Also showcased in the new store is the Redmi 5A Prime, the first Xiaomi phone that pairs a selfie light with a 16-megapixel front-facing camera. It has a fingerprint sensor on its back.

    South Korean sandwich outlet Isaac Toast opened yesterday at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA2) Arrival Hall – its debut for Malaysia.

    Starting out as a sandwich stall in Seoul in 1995, Isaac Toast now has 700 retail outlets in South Korea, with a scattering of stores also in Macau and Taiwan.

    It is known for its filling sandwiches that feature different meats and toppings. Its most popular sandwiches include Bulgabi, Bulgogi, Bacon Best and Ham Special, plus some branches offer specialties like Double Cheese Potato and even Shrimp.

    Dyson Malaysia opens concept store in KL

    Dyson Malaysia has opened its first concept store, in The Gardens Mall, Kuala Lumpur. Dyson Demo is also the largest space in Southeast Asia for the British engineering company.

    “We want our visitors to have the chance to be hands-on with our products. They can pick up, test and experience Dyson’s technology,” says Dyson Southeast Asia GM Martyn Davies.

    Three main products feature in the minimalist store – cord-free vacuum cleaners, purifying fans and hairdryers. Davies says Dyson hopes to introduce four new technologies by 2020.

    “We have a development centre in Johor Baru, so there is a high chance Malaysian engineers worked on the technology behind these products, and are working on our upcoming ones,” he says.
    Visitors to the store can try the vacuum cleaners on three different floor surfaces.

    “This space is designed for our clients to pick up the machines, pull them apart and test them on our test track with various dust samples,” says Dyson Electronics head Jim Roovers.

    After the success of domestic and international operations from Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA), Kuala Lumpur-based AirAsia Airline has decided to start another domestic flight from Bhubaneswar. The new daily flight to Ranchi will start operations from October 7.With this, AirAsia offers connectivity from the city airport to Kolkata, Bangalore, Ranchi and Kuala Lumpur. AirAsia is a major operator which uses both (domestic and international) terminals of the BPIA.
    According to airline schedule, Bhubaneswar-Ranchi flight (I51625) will take off from Bhubaneswar at 12:45 pm and reach Ranchi at 2 pm. Similarly, the Ranchi-Bhubaneswar flight (I51624) will take off from Ranchi at 10:30 am and reach here by 11:50 am. Apart from Bhubaneswar, the airline has also decided to offer daily direct flights to Ranchi from Bangalore and Hyderabad.At present, the Bhubaneswar-Ranchi ticket price is around Rs 2,300 (the fare is subject to change).
    The Malaysian carrier has two flights to Bangalore and two flights to Kolkata. Significantly, the airline which started the international operations to Kuala Lumpur in April this year gets good response from the state.

    In fact, the airline was selected for international operations by the state government through a competitive bidding. Apart from AirAsia, IndiGo, Air India, Vistara and Go Air also offer domestic connectivity from BPIA. However, AirAsia is the only airline which offers direct domestic and international connectivity from BPIA.Top officials of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) informed this daily that BPIA will have more flights soon.

    “BPIA is a potential airport and we are already in talks with different operators for starting operations from here. We also suggested to the airlines to start operations by using small aircraft,” said a top official of the AAI.

    According to officials, within two years, the passengers can expect more facilities at BPIA. The AAI has floated a proposal for a three-star hotel near the airport. The authorities have already indentified approximately 54 acres at BPIA for commercial purposes and decided to allot one acre to the three-star project.

    Longines has opened a new store in Kuala Lumpur, as the Swiss luxury firm looks to bolster its standalone store count in Malaysia.

    Located the capital’s prestigious Suria KLCC mall, the Longines store covers 75-square-metres and adopts the style codes seen in boutiques around the world.

    Upon entering the boutique, shoppers face a floor-to-ceiling poster of Longines ambassador, Kate Winslet, while the main wall panel projects a large video screen, offering an insight into Longines’ 185-year long history.

    Store features include lacquered wood panelling with the firm’s winged hourglass logo, as well as burnished leather, polished marble and selected fixtures and furnishings “that create a calm inviting environment,” said the brand in a statement.

    An exclusive VIP area allows customers to shop in comfort and privacy, while finding out more about the brand and specific collections, it said.

    The Suria KlCC store stocks the iconic watchmaker’s latest collections for both men and women.  There’s a dedicated space for The Longines Equestrian Collection, a tribute to Longines’ involvement in equestrian sports and its commitment to its female customers, inspired by the equine world.

    The new store also has a small display of nine pocket watches from the 19th century, taken from the Longines Museum located at the company’s headquarters in Saint-Imier, Switzerland. The new boutique is the first in Southeast Asia to feature the valuable archive pieces, said Longines.

    Finally, the boutique has a large range of Longines collections including Longines DolceVita, The Longines Master Collection, Conquest Classic as well as Heritage models, which are on freestanding displays for easy access.

    The new store follows Longines’ recent store opening in Macau in February this year. Longines forms part of the Swatch Group fold, which also boasts luxury brands such as Breguet, Omega, Hamilton and Calvin Klein watches.
