    In a statement, Yum China conveyed its commitment to enhance the daily life of Hong Kong’s residents through Lavazza’s internationally acclaimed coffee.

    The opening of the store is a significant move in Lavazza and Yum China’s wider regional strategy. The two firms have ambitious plans for mainland China, intending to broaden Lavazza’s presence to include 1000 cafes by 2025.     Nutella, Lavazza partner to launch biscuits and coffee ‘Perfect Match’

    Nutella has partnered with Lavazza to launch Nutella & Lavazza’s biscuits and coffee ‘Perfect Match’.

    Lavazza brings the Espresso Barista coffee range, which uses beans from Central-South America, Africa and Asia with aromatic notes of flowers, cocoa, and wood.

    The Espresso Barista coffee complements Nutella’s golden baked crunchy biscuits filled with the brand’s signature creamy hazelnut spread.

    “Australians are snacking more often, with biscuits being consumed throughout the day,” said Azzurra Puricelli, head of marketing and new business at Nutella Australia.

    “We also know how much Aussies love coffee. With consumption going beyond the morning ritual, expanding into the afternoon coffee break and post-dinner treat, we wanted to give consumers that feeling of completeness with a perfect match.”

    As a promotion, shoppers who spend at least $15 on Nutella Biscuits and Lavazza Espresso Barista products at participating Woolworths stores between April 24 and May 14 will have a chance to win one of the 250 $100 Woolworths gift cards.

    Lavazza launches its first collection of locally-roasted coffee

    Italy’s biggest coffee roaster Lavazza, has announced the launch of Il Mattino Vivace its first pure filter coffee blend to be sourced and processed in India for the domestic market.

    Coffee is being sourced from Chikmagalur and Coorg in Karnataka and processed in Lavazza’a manufacturing facility at Sri City in Andhra Pradesh.

    The facility at Sri City in Tada began its commercial operations a few weeks ago, Fresh and Honest Cafe Ltd Managing Director Silvio Zaccareo said.

    Fresh and Honest Cafe Ltd is a 100 percent subsidiary of Lavazza.

    Zaccareo declined to reveal the size of investment made at the factory or the number of employees working in it.

    II Mattino Vivace meaning ‘lively morning’ is made from Arabica and Robusta beans roasted for the “at home” segment.

    “Lavazza is known the world over for its expertise in art of blending for over four generations. II Mattino Vivace is a result of combining that expertise and our understanding of the unique consumer preferences in Indian market”, he said.

    To a query, he said the coffee powder would be available in retail outlets across the country. “We are planning to complete first stage distribution by end of this month”.

    Zaccareo said the company inaugurated Coffee Training Centre last year which was the first largest centre outside Italy.

    The centre trains professionals, carries out research and explores new forms of taste. “We have trained more than 1,000 people,” he said.

    Everstone Group to bring Lavazza back to India

    Italian major Lavazza has joined hands with private equity company Everstone Capital to reenter India’s retail landscape.

    A franchise pact has been signed between Everstone and Lazazza to run the latter’s coffee outlets in India, according to a media report.

    According to the report, both the companies have signed a deal several weeks ago. As part of the agreement, PE major Everstone will also sell also sell Lavazza coffee vending machines in India.

    The US-based food chains Burger King and Subway are being operated by Everstone, and the coffee chain Lavazza would supplement its portfolio.
    Burger King outlets have BK coffee shops, and Everstone intends to add Lavazza across its Subway stores.

    Lavazza shuttered India operations citing mounting operational expenses several years ago. In a bid to focus on its profit making fresh & honest coffee brewing machine business, the Italian group sold Barista Coffee chain to Carnation Hospitality for Rs 100 crore in 2014. The company changed ownerships four times to turn the brand viable.

    India’s coffee culture has brought in Canada’s Tim Hortons, which plans to open 100 outlets over the next four years, US-based Starbucks, which is a major coffee chain player in India, also runs 300 outlets across the county.

    Italian coffee chain Lavazza is set to increase its store network in China to 1000 by 2025 through scaling up its existing joint venture with fast-food operator Yum China.

    The joint venture –in which Yum will be Lavazza’s exclusive distributor in Mainland China, will also receive an initial US$200 million funding from both companies for its future growth.

    The expansion plan will see more Lavazza store openings in higher-tier cities with different store formats. As of last month, Lavazza China operated 22 stores across Shanghai, Hangzhou, Beijing, and Guangzhou. It aims to double the store number by the end of this year.

    “The potential for coffee in China is vast; there is a lot of unexplored white space,” said  Antonio Baravalle, CEO of Lavazza Group. “As the largest restaurant operator in China, Yum China is the best partner to further grow the Lavazza brand in this market given its deep understanding of local consumers and market dynamics.”

    The joint venture will also ​​market, sell, and distribute Lavazza’s retail products in Mainland China, including coffee beans, ground coffee, and coffee capsules.

    Lavazza entered China last year with Yum China, with stakes of 35 percent and 65 percent respectively. Lavazza’s first China store, its first international presence, was launched in Shanghai in April last year. The company said sales to its members accounted for about 50 percent of the sales for the first half of this year.

    “The recent progress of Lavazza cafes in China has been encouraging and reaffirms our belief that our partnership is well-positioned to capture the significant coffee opportunity in China with accelerated store network development,” said Joey Wat, CEO of Yum China.

    Fast-food and QSR-restaurant operator Yum China has partnered with Italian coffee company Lavazza to develop a network of coffee shops across the country.

    The companies have opened a Lavazza Flagship store in Shanghai, first outside Italy, as the first step in the new partnership.

    The flagship is located in Jing’an, Shanghai’s historic downtown district, offering what the companies describe as “an immersive Italian coffee shop experience that is almost identical to what they could expect to find in Italy”. High ceilings, artistic murals and marble furnishings help deliver the Italian ‘feel’ and the coffee is complemented with a “gastronomic cafe” serving traditional Italian-inspired snacks.

    “We see great potential for coffee in China and Lavazza shares this enthusiasm,” said Joey Wat, CEO of Yum China. “Leveraging our deep understanding of Chinese consumers, we look forward to working together with Lavazza to explore the coffee market in China.

    Antonio Baravalle, CEO of Lavazza Group, described Yum China as “a prestigious partner with in-depth knowledge of the market and the needs of Chinese consumers”.

    “China is an important market with huge untapped potential for coffee consumption. We have been searching for the right opportunities to establish Lavazza in China and Asia, and this partnership is an important first step,” he said.

    The 125-year-old family-owned Lavazza positions itself as a premium brand offering high-quality coffee. It has a strong presence across Asia at the retail level and as a supplier of beans to independent cafes, which must meet strict standards of coffee-making to be allowed to serve the brand.

    Lavazza has created a blend exclusively for the China market: Bel Paese Coffee, which it says offers tastes from across the different regions of Italy, including using historic espresso recipes and local interpretations.

    A range of ‘Coffee Design’ specialty coffees is also available at the Lavazza Shanghai Flagship Store.

    The food menu was created in partnership with an unnamed Michelin-starred chef to provide an authentic Italian offer.
