Michelin-Star Chef Olivier Elzer Brings His Vibrant French-Mediterranean Vision to JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort & Spa in Vietnam

JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort & Spa, the reimagined mythical French university on Vietnam’s magical holiday island, welcomes renowned Michelin-starred chef Olivier Elzer to its new fine-dining venue, Pink Pearl by Olivier E. This dining destination will regale guests with the unique style of French-Mediterranean gastronomy that has propelled the culinary maestro to international acclaim. The revitalized restaurant also echoes the considerable charms of Madame Pearl Collins after whom it is named – an imaginary Gatsby-era socialite famed for hosting dazzling dinner parties in her resplendent pink mansion.

Raised in Alsace, France, Olivier Elzer is one of the most gifted chefs of his generation. Having worked alongside industry legends such as Pierre Gagnaire and Joel Robuchon, he has become a master of gastronomy in his own right, garnering a total of 27 Michelin stars in a 30-year “East meets West” career. His journey across Europe to Asia has comprised spells at some of the most prestigious five-star hotels and fine-dining destinations in Hong Kong, including The St. Regis, W Hong Kong and Clarence. The pioneering culinary innovator also owns a state-of-the-art food lab.

Chef Olivier’s culinary philosophy is authentic and refreshingly approachable, offering French classics with innovative regional twists at exceptional value for all to enjoy. At Pink Pearl by Olivier E. at JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort & Spa, guests can discover a meticulously crafted menu that emphasizes the timeless flavors of France’s Côte d’Azur with avant-garde adaptations – including a series of the chef’s signature dishes exclusively available here. Crafted using natural and seasonal produce from local farmers and fishing communities, along with premium imported ingredients, and elevated with a unique Mediterranean touch, Chef Olivier’s culinary creations will bring the grace and glamor of the French Riviera to Phu Quoc’s pristine shores, creating an emotional connection with every diner.

This vision is perfectly reflected by the signature dish of locally-sourced Bonito, cooked over charcoal to add depth and flavor, and served with an Endive Salad, Comté Cheese and Vierge Sauce – a vibrant recipe that highlights the multi-award-winning chef’s philosophy of using local, fresh ingredients while honoring traditional cooking methods. His classic Bohémienne, meanwhile, elevates the traditional Provençal-style dish of Eggplant, Tomato and Parmesan.

Diners at this luxury eco-conscious resort situated in a stunning spot of Vietnam’s idyllic “Pearl Island” can also embark on two signature culinary journeys: refined five-course and seven-course menus, curated by Chef Olivier exclusively for Pink Pearl by Olivier E., embracing premium ingredients and artistic presentation. Every weekend, Phu Quoc’s most sought-after Sunday brunch is an indulgent celebration of social gastronomy in a one-of-a-kind beachfront setting.

Beginning in June 2025, Pink Pearl by Olivier E. will introduce a new permanent menu that blends France’s sophisticated culinary heritage and evocative Mediterranean influences with the chef’s Michelin-starred expertise and the local spirit of Phu Quoc.

Chef Olivier’s cuisine is perfectly paired with fine wines curated by Master Sommelier Bertrand Lutaud. A professional taster and judge who has worked in several Michelin-starred establishments, Bertrand excels in complementing creative cuisine with vintages from leading vineyards in France and around the world.

Pink Pearl by Olivier E. is just one of the outstanding culinary venues at the Phu Quoc jewel. Foodies can also step into a world of casual elegance at Tempus Fugit, the laid-back beachfront restaurant, savor Latin American “dock-to-dish” cuisine overlooking the ocean at Red Rum, and step into a world of science and mixology at the Department of Chemistry.

  • Michelin To Hike Tyre Prices In India, Africa And Middle East

Michelin To Hike Tyre Prices In India, Africa And Middle East

Michelin today announced that it will be hiking tire prices in India, Africa & the Middle East region. The increase in price is effective from June 18 in India and July 1 for the Middle East region and is applicable to all Michelin Group brands. This is the second price hike this year by Michelin as the first one was made very recently in March 2021, where tire prices were hiked by 8 percent.

In a statement by the company, it said, that it will increase its tyre prices by up to 6 per cent on passenger car, light truck and motorcycle tyres as well as up to 8 per cent on both on- and off-road commercial tyre. The hike in price has been attributed to the increase of raw material cost, global transportation cost and prevailing market dynamics

Price changes may vary across specific products within each brand portfolio.

  • Michelin, Enviro Working On New Recycling Technique To Transform Old Tyres Into Raw Materials

Michelin, Enviro Working On New Recycling Technique To Transform Old Tyres Into Raw Materials

Michelin has announced entering a new partnership with Swedish start-up Enviro, to introduce a new technology to recycle end-of-life tires. Under the new partnership, the companies will work towards industrializing an innovative pyrolysis technology on a large scale to recycle old tires and convert them into raw materials. Currently, recycling is a major issue with tires, and each year, about 1 billion tires reach the end of their life and are discarded as waste. But this new recycling technology will bring them back into the equation.

The process involves a new technique developed by Enviro that modifies the chemical composition and physical phase of the pneumatic material (tires) during the pyrolysis process while ensuring minimal energy consumption. Simply put, this technology will allow the companies to extract high-quality raw materials such as – recovered carbon black, pyrolysis oil, steel or gas from old tires. These raw materials can then be re-incorporated into various other production circuits in different industrial sectors.

The new partnership will see both the companies bring in their expertise from different fields to deploy Enviro’s pyrolysis technology on a larger scale and build a factory to industrialize the technology. Michelin will use its industrial know-how in terms of research and development and production for the construction of the new plant, while Enviro will bring its patented pyrolysis technology, which will produce high-quality products. The location of the plant will be confirmed at a later date.

Michelin currently holds 20 percent stake of Enviro’s capital, amounting to 32.5 million SEK or ₹ 247.4 crore, as per the current exchange rate, making it the largest shareholder in the company. There is also a joint Supply Agreement between Michelin and Enviro. Michelin says that this partnership reiterates the company’s long-term commitment to recycling and sustainable mobility.

  • Michelin Targets 2050 To Go Carbon Neutral At All Plants

Michelin Targets 2050 To Go Carbon Neutral At All Plants

2019 has been one of the hottest years in recent decades, marking a new milestone in the worldwide increase in greenhouse gas emissions and extreme weather events. The transportation sector alone is responsible for 23 percent of CO2 emissions worldwide. Looking at these numbers Michelin has decided on an objective and that is all of its plants across the world will emit zero CO2 emissions by 2050. The company is also looking to reduce tire-related energy consumption per kilometer traveled by 20 percent by 2030. This strategy is in line with the Paris Agreement signed at the COP21 in 2015 to limit global warming to below 2 degrees Celsius.

To reduce the carbon footprint of production at a global level, Michelin developed a strategy founded on two pillars: consume less, and implement an energy transition. This strategy has already had concrete and positive effects: in Europe, 85 percent of its plants are powered by electricity that is guaranteed to come from renewable sources. Between 2010 and 2018, CO2 emissions from the company’s production facilities were down by 22 percent.

The company is looking to improve energy efficiency of its industrial tools, using more renewable energy, and eliminating coal. Currently, 5 out of 70 of the Group’s sites around the world are still coal-fired. We have already launched studies to evaluate the feasibility of replacing coal with another source of primary energy, such as gas or biomass. All our plants will phase out the use of coal by 2030 at the latest.

The selected establishments will be recognized at the star-studded Michelin Guide Singapore 2019 Star Revelation and Gala Dinner. The evening’s exquisite six-course dinner will be created by internationally renowned chefs from Michelin-starred establishments around the world.

The roster of chefs this year includes names that gastronomes will be familiar with, including:

    • Guillaume Galliot (Caprice, 3 Michelin stars, Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macau 2019)
    • Kelvin Au Yeung (Jade Dragon, 3 Michelin stars, Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macau 2019)
    • Sebastien Lepinoy (Les Amis, 2 Michelin stars, Michelin Guide Singapore 2018)
    • Joshua Brown and Greg Bess (CUT by Wolfgang Puck at Marina Bay Sands, 1 Michelin star, Michelin Guide Singapore 2018)
    • Beppe de Vito (Braci, 1 Michelin star, Michelin Guide Singapore 2018)
    • Arisara ‘Paper’ Chongphanitkul (Saawaan, 1 Michelin star, Michelin Guide Bangkok, Phuket Phang-Nga 2019)

Bringing together their expertise gained in the varied culinary regions of Europe and Asia, the chefs will be presenting a six-course dinner, with each chef showcasing the cuisine that they specialize in. Including French, Italian and Cantonese cuisine, the dishes will be served with an impeccable selection of wines.

This year’s gala will reflect a trend seen across the world, sustainability, which is also in alignment with one of the Michelin Group’s key commitments: Sustainable Mobility. The company envisions a circular economy to preserve the planet’s resources by reducing, reusing, renewing and recycling the materials needed to produce the Company’s products and services, to avoid leaving a lasting environmental impact.

To make this possible, one of its visions for the next 30 years is for its tires to incorporate up to 80 percent sustainable materials and for 100 percent of end-of-life tires to be recycled or reused as fuel.

Fittingly, this year’s gala dinner is themed «Kitchens of Progression», signifying a shift towards sustainable dining and culinary practices. Chefs involved in the preparation are implored to procure ingredients from trusted suppliers and organizations that practice ethical and sustainable farming and be mindful about reducing food wastage – Michelin aims to make this a move in the culinary world, in line with another aspect of its business.

  • Michelin’s Airless Wheel Which Does Not Puncture To Enter Production By 2024

Michelin’s Airless Wheel Which Does Not Puncture To Enter Production By 2024

Michelin and General Motors presented a new generation of airless wheel technology for passenger vehicles. It’s called the Uptis Prototype (or “Unique Punctureproof Tyre System”) – at the Movin’On Summit for sustainable mobility. The joint research agreement will see both the companies validate the Uptis Prototype with the goal of introducing the Uptis on passenger models as early as 2024. Michelin and GM are testing the Uptis Prototype, beginning with vehicles like the Chevrolet Bolt EV. Later this year, the companies will initiate real-world testing of Uptis on a test fleet of Bolt EV vehicles in Michigan.

Michelin has been working at making airless tyres for the past five years now. The company showcased the Tweel concept in 2014 and an investment of $50 million has gone into the new plant for making it ready for commercial usage. The Uptis is a version of this and is airless. It completely eliminates the risk of flat tyres and blowouts.

Florent Menegaux, chief executive officer for Michelin Group said, “Uptis demonstrates that Michelin’s vision for a future of sustainable mobility is clearly an achievable dream. Through work with strategic partners like GM, who share our ambitions for transforming mobility, we can seize the future today.”

The Uptis Prototype is re-engineered for today’s passenger vehicles, and it is also well suited to emerging forms of mobility. The vehicles and fleets of tomorrow – whether autonomous, all electric, shared service or other applications – will demand near-zero maintenance from the tire to maximize their operating capabilities.

The Uptis features a different architecture and composite materials, which enables the tyre to bear the car’s weight at road-going speeds. Approximately 200 million tyres worldwide are scrapped prematurely every year as a result of punctures, damage from road hazards or improper air pressure that causes uneven wear. These advancements through the Uptis Prototype demonstrate Michelin’s and GM’s shared commitment to delivering safer, more sustainable mobility solutions. Of course these tyres will be pricey but we wait to see how these tyres fair on production cars.

  • Michelin to re-organise business leading to job losses

Michelin to re-organise business leading to job losses

Tyre giant Michelin has announced plans to significantly re-organise globally, resulting in significant job losses in France and the US most of which will be covered by natural attrition.

In the United States 450 jobs in central functions are to be cut between 2018 and 2021. According to Michelin, 1,500 employees would actually leave the company in the same period, suggesting a large majority will result from natural attrition and retirement.

In France, the transformation coincides with significant job creation. By 2021, 5,000 employees will leave the group in France, the majority due to retirement, and around 2,000 of these would be in Clermont-Ferrand.

However, at the same time Michelin says it wants to recruit more than 3,500 people externally in France by 2021, including 1,000 in Clermont-Ferrand. The company will also start new activities in Clermont-Ferrand and at other sites in France, creating 250 new jobs. The firm says it aims to “progressively reach the target size of the future organizations, without forced redundancies.”

The company would not replace 970 retirees, between now and 2021 in Clermont-Ferrand. And finally, in order to be closer to its customers and improve competitiveness, Michelin will locate 290 employee and manager positions in other countries where the group is operating.

    Corporate reorganisation

On 16 March 2017 Michelin launched a global reorganisation project. The goal was to “boost growth by adapting…operations to meet the evolving demands of…customers and employees. ” Now, on 22 June, the company has released further details of what has been taking place. In short there will now be 10 new regions, 14 business lines and 8 operational divisions.

The 10 new regions will be given more operational responsibilities. These are Africa – India – Middle-East; South America; Central America; North America; Eastern Asia and Australia; China; Central Europe; Northern Europe, Southern Europe and Eastern Europe.

Tyres  and accessories understand that UK and Eire operations will fit into the Northern European region. No details of who will be leading this region or were indeed this region will be physically based have yet been announced.

Likewise, no details of job consolidation within this region have yet been released, but while the official details clearly focus on the USA and France, it wouldn’t be surprising to learn of some job consolidation in other regions too.

In addition 14 “business lines” will develop offers for each customer category. The purpose of these Business Lines is to develop offers to satisfy global customer groups with similar needs around the world. They would have a key role in building the strategy of the group and would steer their business results in their respective customer segments.

At the same time eight operational divisions will provide expertise and support for the regions and business lines. These are research and development; service technology development; manufacturing; supply chain; marketing and sales support; purchasing; operations quality assurance; and corporate and business services (CBS).

In order to streamline the group’s central operations, the corporate divisions are to focus on their strategic missions. The group’s reporting would be based on consolidation of business lines and would be very similar to currently.

  • Indonesia, Michelin Cooperate in Tire Exports

Indonesia, Michelin Cooperate in Tire Exports

The Indonesian government has joined hands with French tire company Michelin to open market access to Europe and the United States. The plan was proposed in a meeting between Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto and Vice President Public Affairs of Michelin East-Asia and Oceania Segsarn Trai-Ukos in Jakarta last week.

According to Airlangga, the government and Michelin will also cooperate in aircraft tire retreading. “Michelin has developed tire retreading in Thailand,” he said yesterday.

He said that Michelin technology can help develop aircraft tire retreading in Indonesia and reduce negative perception of retreaded tires. High-tech retreaded tires can help lower airline costs and boost growth of air transport industry.

Indonesia and Michelin will also collaborate in utilizing used tires. According to Airlangga, Michelin is expected to process used tires into raw material for asphalt. He pointed to the example of 80 million units of two-wheeled vehicles with 160 million tires. “With an average lifespan of 1.5 to 2 years, abundant supply of used tires will be available to be utilized.”

The Minister also discussed business opportunities with French Ambassador to Indonesia Jean-Charles Berthonnet. Airlangga said that France can become Indonesia’s export gateway to the non-traditional European market.

He sees France as an important trade partner. In 2015, Indonesia’s import value from France hit US$1.3 billion for aircraft components, vehicles, machinery, milk, and pharmaceutical. Whereas, Indonesia’s export to France worth US$972 million, which include footwear, rubber, furniture, clothing, and coffee.
