    Cathay Pacific Makes Historic Move with HKD Fixed-Rate Notes Release: A Milestone in Hong Kong’s Airline Sector

    Cathay Pacific, headquartered in Hong Kong, has unveiled its intention to release three-year benchmark-sized Hong Kong dollar senior unsecured fixed-rate notes. The airline has set the initial price guidance in the area of 4.1%.

    Details of the Bond Issuance

    The bonds are expected to come to maturity on April 29, 2029, with interest payments to be made on a semi-annual basis. The settlement of the bonds is anticipated to occur on April 29, 2026. The proceeds from the bond issuance will be lent to the airline and its subsidiary companies to be used as working capital and for other general corporate purposes.

    HSBC has played an instrumental role as Joint Bookrunner and Joint Lead Manager in Cathay’s public bond issuance of HKD2,080 million. The bond issuance also coincides with Cathay’s celebration of its 80th anniversary in Hong Kong.

    Significance of the Bond Issuance

    This represents Cathay’s inaugural HKD public bond issuance, marking its first re-entry into the public bond market since 2021. Eugene Ng, HSBC Head of Debt Capital Markets, Greater China, emphasised the importance of the bond issuance, calling it a testament to the strength of the HKD bond market as a reliable source of local-currency funding for top-tier Hong Kong corporations.

    Ng further highlighted that this is the largest HKD public bond issuance by a Hong Kong non-public sector corporate and the first from the airline sector, thereby indicating an expansion in the local issuer base. He expressed HSBC’s commitment to continue to leverage its local-currency expertise and capabilities to assist issuers in gaining access to the HKD market as part of their solid funding strategies. This move supports Hong Kong’s Fixed Income and Currency Roadmap to deepen liquidity and broaden participation.

    Bank of China (Hong Kong), BNP Paribas, and DBS are the other joint bookrunners and joint lead managers for this bond issuance.

    Google announces rich text formatting for Keep Notes on Android

    Last week code was found within Android which revealed a feature in progress for Google Keep. This alluded to the possibility of adding rich text formatting to notes within Google Keep, a highly requested feature for those that use the app regularly.
    However, as the discovery had not rolled out to any users yet, all we had to go on at the time were the screenshots and notes provided by by Mishaal Rahman on his X post. Thankfully, we didn’t have to wait long for official word, as Google has now announced via its Google Workspace Updates Blog.
    In the official announcement, Google revealed that Google Keep will be gaining new text formatting options to notes on Android devices. The company cites the amount of users requesting this feature as its motivation for following through.
    The new formatting options allow for users to customize notes by making text bold, italic, or underlined. You can also choose from heading styles like H1 and H2.
    The new formatting options will only be available for new notes, although support for existing notes is expected to be added in the coming weeks. The rollout begins today for all Google Workspace customers and users with personal Google Accounts, although it make take up to two weeks for the feature to reach all users.
    To use the new formatting options, tap on the text you want to format and then select the desired option from the toolbar. However, keep in mind that text formatting is only available on Android devices, so if you open a note with formatting on a desktop browser or an iOS device, any formatting you had previously applied won’t be visible there.
    Even though the addition of formatting options to Keep does not bring it up to the same level as more advanced note-taking apps such as Microsoft’s OneNote or Squid, especially when you can only see the formatting changes on Android, it is definitely a good start to a feature that has been so highly requested for such a long time.

    Google notes changes coming to Google Maps including AR-based “Search with Live View”

    On Thursday, Google revealed in a blog post that some changes are coming to Google Maps. One new feature, “Search with Live View,” was unveiled in September and will start rolling out next week on both iOS and Android platforms in London, Los Angeles, New York, Paris, San Francisco, and Tokyo. The feature, which uses augmented reality, requires that you use your phone’s camera. Here’s how it works.

    Remember Live View on Google Maps? If you’re walking, the app will overlay arrows on top of a real-world view from your camera to help you navigate from one place to another. Live View will also show you certain landmarks. Search with Live View helps you find places that are close to your current location in certain cities.

    For example, let’s imagine that you are in New York City and you want to run some errands, do some holiday shopping, and, dine with friends. Thanks to AI, AR, and billions of Street View images, you can find the places you need that are mostly right in front of you. From the Google Maps app, lift your phone and tap on the camera icon in the search bar to see stores that are nearby along with coffee shops, banks, and ATMs.
    The user will see arrows and directions in front of a real-world view thanks to AR. And with all of those aforementioned Street View images available, even stores that are around the corner and not accessible to your phone’s camera can show up. And besides showing you the name of each store, bank, or restaurant, Search with Live View will provide you with other important information such as whether a store is open or closed, how busy it might be, whether its prices are cheap or dear, and how high or low the Google Maps community considers the business.
    The filter can also be used to show charging stations that use plug types compatible with your car. These new features are available right now on iOS and Android devices in countries
    that have EV charging stations.
    Lastly, Google reminds us that it has been two years since it started showing wheelchair accessible places in Australia, Japan, the U.K., and U.S. This feature will let you know when a destination is wheelchair accessible. The good news here is that the feature is now available globally on Google Maps regardless of whether you use the iOS or Android platform. To use it, turn on the “Accessible Places” setting in Google Maps. Here’s what you do:
    Open Google Maps and tap the initials, or profile pix on the right side of the search bar near the top of the display. Tap on Settings > Accessibility settings. Toggle on Accessible places which will “Show if places have wheelchair accessible features like entrances, seating, restrooms, and parking when searching or viewing a place.” Google does warn that accessibility information seen on this feature may differ from conditions in the real world.
