    Microsoft’s OneDrive updated with several new features for iOS 13 and 14 users

    The last time OneDrive for iOS was updated, the app received a couple of new features specifically designed for iOS 14. This time Microsoft is rolling out a slew of new features aimed at both iOS 13 and 14 users.

    First off, we have a brand new OneDrive widget available only for iOS 14 users. Then, there’s a new Home tab that should make it easier for OneDrive users to pick up where they left off. The new Home tab features a user’s Recent view for easy access to files, as well as an Offline Files section that lets you access and manages files already downloaded for offline access. The new Home tab is available now for all iOS users.

    Microsoft also revealed that OneDrive personal users will get On This Day featured at the top of the new Home tab. Finally, the update makes it easier for users of OneDrive at work or school to get their Shared Libraries from the Home tab.

    Besides the new features related to the Home tab, Microsoft made two improvements to OneDrive for iOS. Firstly, it fixed an issue with an unexpected dialog showing up when users would tap the widget to sign into a personal account. Secondly, it improved the widget to make it look even better.

    The new OneDrive for iOS 12.0.2 is already available for download via the App Store, so you might want to update your app to benefit from all these nifty improvements.

    Microsoft makes OneDrive more secure with Personal Vault for Android and iOS

    Microsoft has just announced it’s making OneDrive more secure with the addition of Personal Vault, a protected area that can only be accessed by the owner of the account, which features a strong authentication method or a second step of identity verification.

    The new OneDrive Personal Vault is only accessible through the following authentication methods: fingerprint, face, PIN or code sent via email or SMS. On top of that, Microsoft says that all locked files in Personal Vault have an extra layer of security, but remain easy to access on PC or smartphones.

    If you’re using the Microsoft Authenticator app, you’ll be pleased to know that it’s perfectly usable with OneDrive’s new Personal Vault, so you’ll be able to unlock it using this specific app.

    There’s even a nifty feature that allows OneDrive users to scan and shoot pictures directly into Personal Vault. Simply use OneDrive app to scan documents, take pictures, or shoot video directly from within Personal Vault and they will remain securely locked, but easy to access at the same time.

    Apparently, Personal Vault uses more than just two-step verification to keep files safe and private, but you’ll have to enable encryption your iOS or Android device to benefit from an extra layer of security.

    In the same piece of news, Microsoft announced that it’s increasing the OneDrive standalone storage plan from 50GB to 100GB at no additional charge. Also, all Office 365 subscribers are offered a new option to add more storage when they need it.

    In between bug squashing and adding new features, OneDrive benefits from a steady flow of updates meant to enhance user experience. The latest update brings support for specific features aimed at iPhone users like Siri Shortcuts. You can turn on shortcuts by heading to Settings / Siri & Search, which will allow you to use your voice for various tasks.

    For example, you can say “Hey Siri, scan a business card” and the app should do it for you. Of course, you can scan anything from a document or photo to a whiteboard if the need arises. But Siri Shortcuts is not the only new addition to this OneDrive build.

    The official changelog mentions that the VoiceOver experience in the Shared paged has been fine-tuned, which means it should now behave a little more human and more accessible. Also, a minor issue in the iMessage where the app’s icons were showing up pixelated has been addressed.

    The final change introduced in the update targets business users, but something rather minor. The name of the Sites view has been changed to Libraries, but that’s about all there is, the feature should work the same.
