    Automobili Pininfarina’s Second Car To Rival The Urus

    It was at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show that Mahindra-owned Pininfarina showcased the world’s first luxury electric hyper-performance GT and it’s called the Battista. In fact, the company brought three models to the event. Back then, we told you that it doesn’t stop here and a new model was already in the pipeline. Speaking at a private event in Los Angeles, US, Automobili Pininfarina CEO, Michael Perschke revealed the plans of the company. He said, “We envisage a 5 model family now and by 2025 the family will be complete.”

    While deliveries of the Battista (PF0) will start in 2020, the company is already getting ready to showcase its next product – the PF1. Perschke had already said that the second car will slot somewhere between a Lamborghini Urus, Porsche Panamera Shooting Brake and a Ferrari GTC4 Lusso and of course, it will be an all-electric car. While there’s no doubting why the company is diving into the SUV segment, considering how big a global trend the segment is; it’s interesting to see Pininfarina taking the bull by the horns and streamlining its strategy for the Indian market. While it’s currently under development, and hence not much is known about it, of course, there are some details that Perschke threw some light on.

    In an exclusive interview during the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, Perschke said, “The car will have 4 seats, maybe 5 people can sit in, but it’s going to be super functional, super emotional, superb designs and it’; be a little higher, little longer than the Battista and it’s going to be super exciting and we have to do justice to this brand.” The company has now confirmed that the PF1 will come with a 4-seater configuration but with an optional rear-seat bench to offer a 5-seater variant. The interior trim will be made of rich material 90 per cent of which will be no plastic. However, it went on to state that 90 per cent of the dash will be wood.

    At a private event in Los Angeles though, a few more details were revealed and this includes the approximate price of the car. Perschke said that the second model will be priced from $200,000 ( ₹ 1.43 crore approx.) to $300,000 ( ₹ 2.15 crore) and will slot below the Battista which currently is priced at $2 million. He in fact said that the brand will never build a car which will cost less than $ 150,000 ( ₹ 1 crore approximately)

    Giving some more details about what the PF1 would look like, Luca Borgogno, Head of Design, Pininfarina said, ” The next car will be the first sustainable S-LUV (Sustainable Lifestyle utility vehicle). It will offer performance, luxury and comfort. We want to apply a low bonnet, big fender feeling and glass canopy feel to the car. We will work with suppliers to Boeing to have glass that can be darkened or lightened as the windows in the Dreamliner.” The roof canopy will also have heat reflection.

    On the dimensions front, the PF1 all-electric SUV will be 50mm lower than the Urus; it will be more than 5 metres long, more than 2 metres wide and will have an electric powertrain that will offer upto 1000 bhp. The PF1 will use 3 electric motors; 2 at back, one in front and will boast of a 50:50 weight distribution with 80 percent of weight below the H point since the batteries will be floor mounted.

    The PF1 will be based on a new platform that Pininfarina calls skateboard. The S-LUV will be the first car to be built on this platform and all future cars from Pininfarina will be based on it. The company says that the S-LUV will not be an off-roader but will be able to handle rough roads and some more. The car will come with AWD and air suspension will be part of the package.

    It is also confirmed now that the PF1 will come with 24-inch wheels which is a size bigger than the Lamborghini Urus. Of course, you’re wondering, whether it’s a limited edition model. Well, it isn’t. It was only the production of the Battista that was capped at 150 units. According to the folks at Pininfarina, the volume will vary with each model. As far as the PF1 (S-LUV) goes, it will have a minimum annual production of 1500 units. Between the Battista, PF1 and PF2, the company will not produce more than 5000 units annually.

    Production of the PF1 S-LUV will begin from 2022 and the car will be showcased for the first time as the Pura Vision Concept at the next Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

    Pininfarina Battista Launched In The Middle East

    Automobili Pininfarina has announced the introduction of its fully-electric hypercar, Pininfarina Battista, in the Middle East market. Expected to be priced around $2 million ( ₹ 13.95 crore approx.), the Italian marque’s zero-emission electric hypercar was launched in Dubai, at specialist luxury car retailer Adamas Motors showroom. The new Battista electric hypercar is slated to enter production in the second half of 2020 at Pininfarina’s Cambiano facility in Italy. Initially, the carmaker will be producing a maximum of 150 units, out of which only 50 are anticipated to be available to cover the Middle East and Asia markets, so the company expects the demands to be exceptionally high.

    Talking about the Luca Borgogno, Design Director, Automobili Pininfarina, said, “We are proud to be in Dubai for the Battista’s Middle East debut. Just a few weeks after it was launched at the Geneva International Motor Show, where it received an amazing reception, we have arrived in one of the world’s most discerning countries for supercars and luxury cars. The Battista’s classic hypercar proportions combined with cutting-edge technology that delivers 1,900 hp and zero emissions will be a new experience for its owners in the UAE, and we believe will make them fall in love with ultra-high-performance electric vehicles.”

    In addition to Adamas Motors as the brand’s retail partner for the UAE, Pininfarina will soon announce a second retail partner for the Middle East, which will cover the important Saudi Arabia market. Meanwhile, potential customers are invited to apply to own a Battista using an online service within the company’s website.

    The Pininfarina Battista will be the first of the Italian marque’s pure-electric luxury cars, and it comes with a 120-kWh battery providing power to four electric motors – one for each wheel – offering a combined output close 1,900 horses while developing 2,300 Nm of peak torque. Pininfarina claims that the Battista electric hypercar is faster than a current Formula 1 race car. While 0-100 kmph is achieved in under two seconds, 0-300 kmph takes less than 12 seconds and it can reach a top speed of 350 kmph. As for the range, the company claims that the Battista has a potential zero-emissions range of up to 450 kilometres.

    The Battista comes with the classic Pininfarina design, using the same principle of form and function coming together, as seen in classic Pininfarina cars reaching back to the Cisitalia 202 of 1947 and through more than 100 Ferraris. The car also comes with a futuristic-looking cabin with a completely driver-oriented dashboard with two displays positioned behind the steering wheel offering a host of information. The hypercar features dual tone black and brown interior using high-quality leather. Plans are in place for the opportunity to fully personalise each car at Pininfarina SpA’s Cambiano headquarters.

    Mercedes-AMG Cars Will Be Electrified From 2021

    Electric performance car is not an alien concept anymore. In fact, prominent carmakers like Automobili Pininfarina and Rimac are into the business of making only electric supercars. Electric Mobility is also believed to be the future of automobiles and this stands true even when we talk about performance cars. Mercedes is also thinking in this direction and has said that all its AMG cars will be electrified 2021 onwards.

    According to news reports, Tobias Moers, Head – Mercedes-AMG said that Mercedes-AMG models will be using an electrified V8 drivetrain in the future. The 4.0-litre V8 engine which powers a range of Mercedes-AMG cars will be coupled with a 48-volt electric motor which has been developed indigenously by the team. Initially, Mercedes was planning to use the new powertrain in the 63 engine only in the GLE and GLS SUVs. However, it will play a major role in the future as from 2021 all AMG cars will be launched with an electrified powertrain. Mercedes also believes that the share of electrified powertrains will be higher in the performance segments in 2025.

    We already know that AMG is also working on a high-performance hybrid system for its upcoming hypercar. The Mercedes-AMG One hypercar will use an electric motor driving its front wheels just like the AMG GT four-door concept. Moers also said that the setup will be offered in the 65 series AMG models and will replace the 6.0-litre V12 engine. However, the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged AMG engine won’t be converted into a hybrid system.

    Pininfarina Launches New Website To Strengthen Its Online Presence

    Mahindra-owned Pininfarina has announced the launch of its new website detailing out its complete product and service that are on offer. The Italian marque says that the new website will further aid to strengthen the company’s digital presence and showcase how broad and structured its service offer is. For this project, Pininfarina has roped in the creative agency Vangogh from Milan, which has designed and developed the new website.

    Talking about the company’s new website, Giuseppe Bonollo, Director Sales and Marketing, Design, Pininfarina S.p.A. said, “We are a company made up of people with a multitude of skills, from car design to engineering, from industrial design to architecture, from digital design to the ability to build prototypes and cars in small series. A wealth of skills that allows us to have a unique and comprehensive approach to projects, always consistent with our mission from the beginning: the creation of products and services that transform and innovate the experience for the end user. The new site is, therefore, the global showcase of the plurality of our skills and services”.

    In addition to the company’s several design projects, the website also offers details about its all-new fully-electric hypercar the Battista, which was revealed early this year in Cambiano, Turin. Furthermore, the website also talks about Mahindra’s recently launched intermediate commercial vehicle, the Mahindra Furio.

    It was at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show that Mahindra-owned Pininfarina unveiled its first production hypercar – the Battista and we got know a lot about the car as well; of course we told you all about it too. While the company wants to keep the production of the Battista limited, there’s no denying that there will be people who would want to get their hands behind the wheel of one. The Battista stands out amongst the others in this segment and yes, there are quite a few hypercars entering this segment very quickly, but of course, Pininfarina is not stopping there and it’s already embarking on its next project an SUV or as Automobili Pininfarina CEO, Michael Perschke likes to call a ‘Sports Activity Vehicle’

    He confirmed the development on the sidelines of the 2019 Geneva Motorshow. He said, “The board sanctioned 3 to 4 cars including the Battista. The second one is probably going to be somewhere between a Lamborghini Urus and a Ferrari GTC4 Lusso. A super spectacular sports activity vehicle which is probably closer to a sports car than an SUV.”

    The SUV is called the PF1 for now and will go up against the likes of the Lamborghini Urus and even the Ferrari GTC4 Lusso and it’s likely to come with more than 1000 bhp and of course it’ll be all electric. It’s likely that the company will borrow Rivian’s modular skateboard platform for the PF1 SUV and while there’s no formal announcement yet on that development, it’s likely that the powertrain for this will come from Rimac. We can’t wait to know more about the PF1 soon.
