    Pizza Hut Malaysia 400th store opens soon

    Pizza Hut Malaysia will open its 400th store in within the next three months. The company says it plans 15 new stores this calendar year, part of the 67 it announced last year within three years. Parent QSR Brands operates 810 KFC locations in its territory of Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and Cambodia, drawing 25 million customers per month. It has another 393 Pizza Huts in Malaysia and 80 in Singapore, attracting 6 million diners per month.

    QSR Brands restaurants division CEO Merrill Pereyra said Pizza Hut anticipates a strong year as it heads towards a planned IPO in the next quarter, partly aimed to raise capital for network expansion.

    KFC Malaysia plans expansion

    KFC Malaysia is considering expansion in Bandar Sri Sendayan, Malaysia, following the launch of the township’s first outlet this month.

    Opened in collaboration with Matrix Concepts Holdings Bhd, the initial response to the launch of the globally popular brand has been encouraging.

    Datuk Seri Mohamed Azahari Kamil, MD of local franchisee QSR Brands (M) Holdings, said: “We believe the demand is high here based on the increasing number of population in the township.”

    The outlet and drive-thru in Bandar Sri Sendayan is the brand’s 700th outlet nationwide and the 21st out of 23 targeted for the region this year. The 24-hour venue can accommodate 170 customers at one time.

    QSR brands is considering four further outlets for Bandar Sri Sendayan, the population of which is expected to reach 120,000 people in the foreseeable future.

    QSR starts selling in Foodpanda Malaysia platform

    Malaysia’s largest fast-food operator QSR Brands is partnering with Foodpanda Malaysia to deliver its Pizza Hut and KFC orders, according to a Deal Street Asia report.

    The move is expected to increase food revenue for the firm by 15–20 per cent, and allow delivery outlets for both brands to increase to 480 by the end of this year, and 730 before 2020.

    QSR MD Mohamed Azahari Mohamed Kamil said: “This will provide a new revenue stream by serving not only our non-delivery outlets but also complement existing delivery outlets.”

    QSR is expected to list on Bursa Malaysia this November, seeking to raise around RM2 billion (US$500 million), raising its market capitalisation to an estimated RM6 billion ($1.5 billion).

    QSR Brands to open 30 more KFC outlets nationwide this year

    QSR Brands Malaysia Holdings is investing more than RM100 million (US$25.6 million) into opening at least 35 KFC outlets this year.

    MD Datuk Mohamed Azahari Mohamed Kamil says the company will spend between RM3 million and RM4 million for each outlet, and also plans to enhance 200 restaurants.

    “We see the economic fundamentals growing well this year,” he said at the launch of the KFC Golden Egg Crunch product in Kuala Lumpur.

    “We believe there is a lot of potential in KFC and Pizza Hut, and that this will be a good year for us to capitalise on our growth for both chains.”

    QSR Brands restaurant division CEO Merrill Pereyra says that over the past five years the company has invested nearly RM1 billion for both KFC and Pizza Hut, with a focus on the Malaysian market. The company is the franchisee of more than 750 KFC restaurants in Brunei, Cambodia, Malaysia and Singapore, and also runs Pizza Hut in Malaysia (370 restaurants) and Singapore (75).

    KFC Malaysia parent plans IPO

    KFC Malaysia parent QSR Brands (M) Holdings, is arranging an IPO next year expected to raise about US$500 million.

    The company, which has both KFC and Pizza Hut restaurant concessions in Southeast Asia,

    Citigroup, Credit Suisse Group and Malayan Banking will lead the offering. QSR has also chosen CIMB Group Holdings and RHB Bank to work on the share sale, reports the Business Times.

    The Kuala Lumpur-based company is seeking a listing after first-time share sales raised US$270 million this year.

    CVC, Employees Provident Fund and Johor Corp took QSR Brands private in 2013. It manages more than 730 KFC restaurants in Brunei, Cambodia, India, Malaysia and Singapore, as well as more than 450 Pizza Hut outlets in Malaysia and Singapore.

    Pizza Hut Malaysia parent to relist

    QSR Brands, parent of Pizza Hut Malaysia, plans to relist, raising more than US$400 million.

    The company is Malaysia’s largest fast food operator with more than 450 Pizza Hut restaurants in Singapore and Malaysia. It has the sole KFC franchise rights for Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, and Brunei.

    The Wall Street Journal reports the company will prepare to accept bids this month (September), but the exact size of the offer has yet to be finalised. Majority shareholder, state government-owned Johor Corp, with a 51 per cent slice of the business, may hold onto its investment for the time being.

    ASR Brands was taken private for $1.3 billion by a consortium led by private equity firm CVC Capital Partners in 2012. The other significant investor is Malaysia’s Employees Provident Fund.

    The most recent major Malaysian IPO in the consumer sector was 7-Eleven Malaysia Holdings, which raised $225 million in 2014.
