    Replay seals the deal with Reliance brands to enter India

    Replay, Italian leader in the premium denim segment, has announced a strategic distribution partnership in India with Reliance Brands Limited.

    The agreement signed with Reliance Brands Limited for the distribution of Replay apparel, footwear and accessories will start with a Spring-Summer 2019 collection.

    Reliance Brands Limited will have the exclusive distribution rights to the Replay brand in the country. The first two flagship stores are targeted to open in Delhi and Mumbai in 2019.

    Matteo Sinigaglia, CEO and owner of Fashion Box S.p.a. — the company that owns Replay — said: “In the brand’s ongoing internationalisation process, India represents a strategic country, and joining forces with Reliance Brands Limited, leader in the fashion and casual wear segments, will allow us to take a premium positioning in the Indian market.
    “I am very excited to start our cooperation. The first flagship store in Delhi is scheduled to open next year.”

    Darshan Mehta, President and CEO, Reliance Brands Limited, added: “Denim is the most versatile garment. It’s a way of life and Replay has been a synonym for the highest standards in the denim sector for more than 30 years now. Our young population, well-travelled consumers and increased purchasing power are perfect catalysts for Replay’s growth in India.”

    Reliance Brands will launch Bally India after signing an exclusive distribution and marketing rights agreement with the Swiss luxury brand.

    Bally and Reliance plan to open a store in New Delhi next year and will look at further expansion afterwards in Chennai, Kolkata and Mumbai.

    “In collaboration with Reliance, we have identified a roadmap to develop the brand in proven retail locations,” says Bally CEO Frederic de Narp.

    Bally has embarked on a global expansion program, including the opening of two concept flagship stores in Tokyo’s Ginza and Los Angeles Rodeo Drive this year. Next year it will add two flagship stores – on New York’s Madison Avenue and in Beijing’s China World Mall.

    Superdry India to roll out more stores

    British fashion brand Superdry is set to expand its store network in India.

    Superdry India, a joint venture with Reliance Brands, currently operates 21 stores across the country.

    “We want to grow to 28 to 29 outlets by this fiscal year,” Manu Sharma, business head of Reliance Brands told the Economic Times. “We are expanding in India.”

    The new outlets are targeted for the nation’s east, where it recently opened its first store, at the Sohum Emporia in Guwahati. Stores are planned now for Ahmedabad and Kolkata.

    Currently, most Superdry India stores are located in New Delhi, Chennai and Pune.

    Meanwhile, Superdry is continuing its aggressive store roll-out in China and North America.

    Muji India set to make history

    Muji India  is about to become the first Japanese retailer to open stores in the nation.

    One is planned for Mumbai, the commercial capital, and another in Bangalore, the hub of the IT industry.

    This follows the forming of a joint venture by Muji owner Ryohin Keikaku, Tokyo, with Reliance Brands, based in Mumbai.

    Ryohin Keikaku is also the first-ever Japanese retailer to receive individual approval for a direct investment from the Indian government’s Foreign Investment Promotion Board.

    Its first venture will be the Muji Palladium. Opening in 2009, Mumbai’s Palladium is one of India’s largest shopping centres, attracting more than 24 million visitors every year. It has luxury retail brands, restaurants and a food court, and is next to a five-star hotel and cinema complex. The Muji India store, scheduled to open in August, will cover about 207 sqm.

    Muji’s second outlet will be in the VR Mall next to Phoenix Market City, which has fashion stores as well as a cinema complex and restaurants. Covering about 485 sqm, the Muji store is scheduled to open in September.
