    Bamboo Airways appoints new chairman to drive international expansion

    Bamboo Airways on Saturday appointed Nguyen Ngoc Trong who has worked for the airline since the early days of establishment as its new chairman.

    Trong, 65, took the new position after his predecessor Dang Tat Thang resigned as chairman and general director.

    Trong served as the first deputy general director of Bamboo Airways from 2018.

    In April this year, he was appointed vice chairman after a series of senior leaders were arrested for allegedly manipulating the stock market.

    He has more than 40 years of working experience in the aviation industry and has held many senior management positions at major firms like Vietnam Airlines, Vietnam Airlines Engineering Company, Vietnam Air Petrol Company Limited and Noi Bai Airport Services JSC.

    Bamboo Airways currently operates nearly 170 flights a day on 40 domestic and 12 international routes.

    Vietnam Airlines ready for US direct route

    Vietnam Airlines is set to receive its final permit from U.S. authorities to conduct regular direct flights to the U.S. after nearly two decades of preparation.

    The national flag carrier has completed all necessary documents to be approved by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA), it stated.

    It is set to receive the permit from Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) soon. The airline did not specify a date.

    Vietnam Airlines said the permit is different from that given earlier for international special charter flights between Vietnam and the U.S.

    The carrier had earlier received permits to conduct 12 charter flights last year and another 12 this year.

    Bamboo Airways had also received a permit to fly 12 charter flights to the U.S. from this month to November.

    Last month, Vietnam Airlines was planning to operate regular flights between Vietnam and the U.S. starting October.

    The airline in 2003 was ordered by the Ministry of Transport to begin direct services to the U.S. by 2005. However, concerns about profitability kept the carrier from realizing the goal until now.

    Bamboo Airways to launch first US route this month

    Startup airline Bamboo Airways has completed the necessary procedures to begin its first direct flight to the U.S. starting Sep. 23, set to be the first Vietnamese airline to do so.

    The airline stated it has received licenses from U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to conduct 12 return flights between the two countries from this month until November.

    It will connect Hanoi and Da Nang City with San Francisco, Los Angeles and Seattle-Tacoma.

    Also starting Sep. 23, the airline of real estate developer FLC will begin a series of events in the U.S. including signing memorandums with San Francisco and Los Angeles airports and opening its first representative office in the U.S.

    The U.S. is considered one of the most difficult aviation markets in the world with stringent safety regulations from the TSA.

    Hanoi-HCMC world’s second busiest domestic air route

    The Hanoi-HCMC route is the world’s second-busiest in November after South Korea’s Jeju-Seoul, according to British aviation analysis company OAG.

    The flight route connecting Vietnam’s two largest cities, which takes around two hours, has nearly 893,000 seats scheduled for November, while the route between South Korean capital Seoul and Jeju Island has 1.3 million.

    The route between Chinese capital Beijing and Shanghai’s Hongqiao Airport is third with 768,184 seats, followed by the two routes in Japan –Sapporo-Tokyo Hanenda and Fukuoka-Tokyo Hanenda.

    Of the top 10 busiest domestic routes in November, China and Japan have four each.

    “International flights have felt the impact most acutely due to border controls and mandatory quarantine requirements, domestic routes are starting to recover as people are generally able to move more freely within their countries,” OAG said.

    Asia is a standout, home to all 10 of the world’s busiest domestic routes this month, the company added.

    Vietnam has reopened six international flights to mainland China, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan from September 15, followed by Laos, Cambodia from September 22. It had suspended all international routes in March to contain the Covid-19 outbreak in the country.

    AirAsia India will start a daily flight on the Delhi-Jaipur route from October 20. The flight will depart daily from Delhi airport at 10.35 am and arrive at Jaipur airport at 11.45 am. The return flight will depart daily at 12.15 pm from Jaipur and arrive at 1.25 pm at Delhi airport. Tickets are available for as low as ₹1,315 on the route.

    AirAsia keeps improving flight services

    AirAsia won for the 11th time at the prestigious Skytrax World Airline Awards as the world’s best low-cost airline during the Paris Air Show in Le Bourget, Paris, France, in the middle of June 2019. But despite the awards, it has never let itself get complacent.

    The airline keeps its commitment to continue increasing and improving its flight services for domestic routes and foreign routes, by being continually committed to providing low cost but quality flight services on all of the routes it serves.

    In July 2019, the airline launched three new routes from Jakarta to Sorong in West Papua, Lombok in West Nusa Tenggara and Semarang in Central Java. The new routes will start operating on Sept. 1 and will be served by Airbus A320 aircraft with a capacity of 180 seats. In June, AirAsia launched five new domestic routes. The five round-trip domestic routes are Jakarta-Lombok (11 flights per week), Bali-Lombok (seven flights per week), Yogyakarta Kulonprogo-Lombok (three flights per week), Bali-Labuan Bajo (seven flights per week) and Surabaya-Kertajati (three flights per week). AirAsia will start operating its flight services on the five new domestic routes from Aug. 1 onwards.

    In an effort to attract more passengers to the new routes, AirAsia is offering special prices, namely for Jakarta–Lombok starting from Rp 635,000, Bali–Lombok from Rp 243,000, Surabaya–Kertajati from Rp 626,000. All the prices are one-way but include tax and free baggage up to 15 kg.

    The flight tickets, which are offered at a price of Rp 2.49 million for Jakarta-Sorong, Rp 590,000 for Jakarta-Lombok and Rp 341,000 for Jakarta-Semarang, can be ordered at airasia.com and through the AirAsia application. The prices are only for one-way but include passenger service charge and free baggage up to a maximum of 15 kg. The prices are only available on flights booked until July 28, for flights from Sept. 1 until Oct. 26.

    Sorong is the largest city in West Papua and stands as a gateway to Raja Ampat, one of the most exotic and beautiful tourist destinations in Indonesia.

    In Lombok, where AirAsia has recently opened its new hub, travelers can enjoy a number of enchanting destinations, such as Bukit Merese, the Gili Islands, Tanjung A’an, Pink Beach and Mandalika.

    In Semarang, which is also known as the little Netherlands, travelers can trace its history through the old buildings mostly from the Dutch colonial era, while hunting for local delicacies along the exotic journey.

    Besides the route expansion, last month AsiaAsia also offered five million cheap tickets through its Big Sale 2019 program for various domestic and international destinations. The promotional tickets include those on favorite routes, such as Jakarta-Singapore at a price of only Rp 150,000, Medan-Penang from Rp 230,000 and Surabaya-Bali from Rp 359,000.

    The airline has also introduced a new standard of flight comfort with its Airbus A330neo, which will certainly change the public perception of long-distance flights. It will offer the best value of ticket prices for 30 long-distance destinations in 10 major markets of AirAsia Group.

    “Besides developing international connectivity to support the visit of foreign tourists to Indonesia, this year, as we promised, we are focusing on expanding our domestic routes, especially those to eastern Indonesia.,” said AirAsia’s president director Dendy Kurniawan recently during the ceremony to launch the new routes.

    Currently, AirAsia Indonesia operates a total of 292 flights per week from Jakarta to various domestic and international destinations, such as Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Bangkok, Phuket, Surabaya, Yogyakarta and Bali.

    Overall, AirAsia serves more than 700 flights per week on 38 direct routes from 15 cities of Indonesia for domestic and international routes. It has a fleet of more than 200 airplanes of the type Airbus A320-200 and Airbus A330-300 in six countries, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, India and Japan, with more than 140 international destinations in Asia, Australia, the Middle East and the US.

    “We’ll continue to be committed to providing low cost but quality flight services in Indonesia. We realize it through the principle of efficiency, innovation and operation digitalization.     AirAsia adds Quanzhou to its Asian routes

    AirAsia will be flying direct daily from Kuala Lumpur to Quanzhou in Fujian, China.bOnce, one of the world’s biggest ports and the starting point of the Maritime Silk Road, Quanzhou was known to Arab traders as Zaiton and was praised by Marco Polo as the “one of the two greatest havens in the world for commerce”.

    Thanks to its status as a major trading port for more than three centuries, Quanzhou today remains a melting pot of diverse cultures and religions, and boasts many Buddhist and Hindu temples, mosques and churches, as well as museums celebrating its proud maritime heritage.

    Some of these must-visit sites include the Kaiyuan Temple, the largest Buddhist temple in Fujian, which was built over 1,300 years ago, as well as the Qingjing Mosque, China’s oldest Arab-style mosque, inspired by the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus.

    AirAsia X Wants To Launch Flights From The US West Coast To Japan

    Air Asia is the world’s largest and best low-cost carrier (They have won awards for the last 10 years). Air Asia X, their low-cost long haul carrier has built a route network spanning from the middle east to southern Australia. But many people in the US have never had a chance to fly on Air Asia, as the name would imply, have only ever been centered around South East Asia.

    Could Air Asia X routes from Japan to the US West Coast work?

    In a massive new rumor, Air Asia might be starting direct routes between Japan and the US West Coast onboard their fleet of brand new Airbus A330-900 aircraft. As none of the 66 new aircraft on order have been delivered yet, Air Asia X has been reluctant to place address the theory. They are however one of the first airlines to order the aircraft, and as deliveries have begun, we expect news sometime this year.

    Previously, the current fleet of older A330-300s has only been able to reach as far as Hawaii from Osaka, Japan (their range is 6,350 nmi (11,750 km)), limited by their ability to cross the Pacific ocean.

    But these new A330neo aircraft, with a range of 7,200nmi (13,334km), allow Air Asia X to reach destinations like Los Angeles and San Fransisco. This opens up a huge potential market for the company, and on the flip side, a cheap (and good) way for American’s to access Japan, and through transfer, South East Asia.

    What is the service like on Air Asia X?

    Whilst there has been no information yet on the fit out of the new Airbus A330-900 aircraft, we can hazard a guess based on their current A330-300 jets.

    There are three classes on board, a ‘premium’ business light class, a quiet zone and a normal economy class. There are also exit row seats scatted throughout.

    The business class features “flat beds” (They do not go entirely 90 degrees flat, but are more around 70-80 degrees), as well as included entertainment (via tablet), baggage allowance and food and beverages. They have around 60 inches of pitch and are 20 inches wide.

    There is every possibility that AirAsia will upgrade the seat truly lie flat in their newer aircraft.

    The quiet zone on board is a section of economy row seats at the front of the economy section that only allows adults and forbids loud noise. The economy section is laid out in a 3 by 2 by 3 configuration.

    Naturally, as it is a low-cost carrier, passengers will need to budget for seat selection, baggage, food and bring their own entertainment. The economy seats have 32 inches of pitch and are 16 1/2 inches wide.

    The real win, however, is the cost. Typically you would be looking at around $1000 USD return in economy to fly from Los Angeles to Osaka. Air Asia typically offers premium business for the cost of an economy ticket (which is well worth the upgrade) and economy for dirt cheap prices (through economies of scale). It is very likely that Air Asia will instantly undercut the market on these routes and be the cheapest to fly.

    Budget airline Vietjet said Saturday it will launch direct flights between Phu Quoc Island and Hong Kong in April. The new route will operate four flights per week starting from April 19, Vietjet said. Each flight will take 2 hours and 45 minutes per leg. Dubbed “the Pearl Island”, Phu Quoc, located in the southern province of Kien Giang, has attracted strong investments in hotels and resorts in recent years.

    Vietjet said it wants to create traveling opportunities for locals and tourists, thereby contributing to trade growth between the two destinations. The largest private airline in Vietnam currently operates 40 domestic routes and 66 international routes.

    Vietnamese airlines have been launching new international flights in recent years, with the domestic market showing signs of saturation.

    The country’s aviation industry has seen increasing demand each year. It welcomed 12.5 million air passengers last year, up 14.4 percent from 2017, according to the General Statistics Office.

    Vietnam’s aviation traffic increased 16 percent on average each year from 2010 to 2017, data from the civil aviation regulator shows.

    Cebu Pacific opens Bacolod-CDO flights

    CEBU Pacific (CEB) has expanded its inter-regional route network by opening its Bacolod and Cagayan de Oro (CDO) flights, one of the two new routes that will further connect the Visayas and Northern Mindanao. On March 15, the airline opened the Bacolod-CDO route with three flights every week specifically on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

    The other route is between CDO and Tagbilaran City, with four flight schedules weekly during Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Both new routes will use the airline’s ATR aircraft. Alexander Lao, president and CEO of Cebgo, said these new routes will not only boost tourism, but also increase trade and productivity between Visayas and Mindanao.

    Lao said they are also optimistic that this will encourage a number of tourists and businessmen from Tagbilaran and Bacolod to visit Mindanao more often with direct flights. “We are very thrilled to begin flying to and from these destinations,” he said, adding that movement of goods between these islands will also be facilitated as Cebu Pacific cargo services are also available in these routes. The airline company, in a press statement, said the new routes going to and from CDO also provide travelers with the best connectivity option through direct flights that eliminates the need to pass through Manila or Cebu. Cebu Pacific offers its lowest all-in one way year-round fares of P1,806 and P1,235 from CDO to Bacolod and Tagbilaran, respectively, it added.

    AirAsia awaits green-light for KL-Bhubaneswar route

    AirAsia is waiting for the go-ahead from India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation to start direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Bhubaneswar in March this year.

    The Malaysian budget airline will launch the new service once it receives formal permission from the Indian aviation regulator in its plans to boost the eastern Indian state of Odisha’s international links and tourism traffic.

    Airports Authority of India’s eastern region executive director, Sanjay Jain, said the airport operator would extend all support to AirAsia for the flight services.
